• Dorothea Dix was born on April 4, 1802

•Born in the town of Hampton in Maine.

• She was the first child of 3

• Her family life can be described as abusive and nonexistent

• Her mother was not in good mental health, and her father was an abusive alcoholic.

• When their family was in Worcester they had 2 more children.

• Dorothea had to take care of her younger siblings.
