Class Pet: ”Donut” The Rat Preferred Environment: Rats live in the plains, where they like it most, to run in the wide open spaces, to climb and dig. The rats’ natural environment is a place where they can run and climb like for example: walls, sticks, trees, logs, trunks etc. The rats live in a places called tunnels,caves etc. The rats usually like dark places and a lot of food but don't feed them too much. Preferred Classroom Environment: Rats need a tall cage to climb and a lot of space to run. You can also put some sticks for it to chew so its teeth do not grow or be too small. Put things for it to climb on and stuff for it to land on while climbing. The rat’s cage needs to be made of metal, glass, and plastic. Care Information: Signs of unhealthiness: Diarrhea is a sign of health issues. Skin lesions and mammary tumors you can detect that because you will see that it has a little bump and sore skin. Malocclusion disease is when your rat’s teeth hurt because they are overgrowing because they have not chewed anything in a really long time. Another sign of unhealthiness is the respiratory disease the symptoms are sneezing, cough and red color in eyes and nose. Signs of healthy rat: active and alert. Another sign is that it eats regularly. It also will be breathing clear with no problems and walk normally and will have healthy fur and clear eyes. For their cage cleaning, you need to put on protective gloves and you need to put a bottle of water. They need to eat vegetables or rat food that they sell at the pet store.
