Note to judge: The Brain, The Social Butterfly, The Jock, The Overachiever, and The Classmate were

spin-off titles used later on divider pages in the book. “Don’t You Forget About Me” is a song from The

Breakfast Club, and each section was a different type of student, just like the movie had 5 different types

of students.

One challenge of starting a new school year is figuring out where you belong; where can you

stand out? A common question among students was, “What groups and clubs will I be involved

in?” They answered it by joining many different activities according to their likes and

personalities. “When I came here I didn’t know hardly anybody but was involved in a lot of things

and got to know a lot of people really well,” said senior Georg Jartveit.

Another challenge the students faced was figuring out who they were and how to fit in. Trying

to figure out if they were The Brain, The Social Butterfly, The Jock, The Overachiever, or The

Classmate was a hard task. “I would say I can be any of them; it just depends on the activity I’m

doing,” said sophomore Makenna Bird.

Even though students were always aiming to fit in with others, they still found ways to stand

out in a group. They could participate in more activities or even take on a bigger leadership role

such as a captain or officer. “I believe that I stood out by taking on more responsibility and

becoming the President of FBLA,” said senior Clarissa Bors.

Others used sports as a way to stand out and try new things. Sometimes students surprised

themselves by really enjoying their new role. “I was a little nervous about going out for volleyball,

but it was actually a lot of fun,” said freshman Harmony Shepherd.

No matter the activities, they always found a way to leave their mark. Through everything

they lived out the statement, DON’T YOU FORGET ABOUT ME. “I was only here for my senior

year, but I believe that the school made an impression on me, and I hope I made one on it. I will

never forget the people I met,” said senior Marci Diaz.
