Printing Workshop At Epson Head Office, Malvern Very Important – Please Read The workshop is now confirmed for Wednesday June 12th at Epson’s Victorian Office at 1/1155 Malvern Road, Malvern [just east of the Glenferrie Road/ Malvern Road intersection] Time is 7pm to 9.30pm Last month we called for a re-registration of those members who wished to participate in the

workshop. We did expect that those who had shown interest in the original workshop would again show interest in the new date. Not so!! At this stage only 6 members have re-registered and unless we get the magic number of 15 participants then we will have to cancel. Any less and it’s not fair on Starleaton and Epson to open shop. Even if you don’t currently print your images it might be worthwhile coming along to see how it all happens [there will be food and drink!!] You will now need to let me know within a week if you are coming to the night or we will, reluctantly, have to cancel and that would be disappointing [and embarrassing] If you are concerned about driving at night we can arrange car pooling [which is sensible anyway] Let me know by e-mail at [email protected] or at 9890 2957 [leave message in need] [John, Judy M, Ean, Pam, Michael and Robyn excluded]

2019 VAPS Convention – Traralgon May 24th – 26th Reminder It’s never too late to register but you do need to be quick as the Saturday night dinner is filling fast and so to would be accommodation close by? “The annual VAPS Convention is fast approaching and will be hosted by the Latrobe Valley Camera Club at the Federal University Campus in nearby Churchill. Last year’s event was a great success and this year’s promises to be just as good with a line-up of interesting speakers and activities already arranged. Attached to the Newsletter is a copy of the Programme. The application forms are now available at: http://www.vaps.org.au/media/downloadable-docs/2019%20Documents/6%20March%20convention/2019%20REGISTRATION%20FORM%20VAPS%20CONVENTION%202019%20FINAL.pdf If you are planning to attend, then I suggest you do something early about accommodation.

Last year we had a great attendance despite the distance to Warrnambool. This year the conference is on “our side” of the state and more convenient. We have completed the selection of entries to represent the Club in the VAPS Interclub competition”

Anzac Day - April 25th This was a very successful shoot for the Club and the weather gods smiled favourably on us for the full morning! My thanks to Ian Game, Bev Dillon, Robyn Solum, Marg Walton, Judy Mitchell, Michael Walker and Ean Caldwell for all their help and assistance on Anzac day. The organization went off like clockwork and there are lots of great shots coming in that, I am sure, will make the RAE very happy. Special Interest Groups

Themes and Series Group [Coordinator: Kay Mack –] [Temporary Co-ordinator – Peggy Petty – 9842 1336 Continuing our theme of letters of the alphabet, either something starting with each letter of the alphabet, or something in the shape of each letter. Beverley’s Ballarat themed photos are on hold and to be completed shortly. Val needed to add to her garden to complete her alphabet all taken in her garden. Les has completed his alphabet with animals, flowers and the Mullum Mullum Creek.

Judy has challenged continued printing of several photos on one large page, Iran A – K for her first one and Africa L-Z the second. Peggy has found natural or man-made objects in the shape of each letter. This has been an interesting challenge, we will each choose our own subject for our next topic. We are a small friendly group and happy to welcome any new members to join us, just speak to any of us for details. We talk about what we have taken, look at each other’s work and finish with a cuppa. Our next get together is on Tuesday 30th April 2 pm. The group are keen to boost their numbers so, if you have an interest in photographing “themes” and “series” I am sure you will gain [or give] some inspiration by involvement in the group!

Audio Visual Group Coordinator: Phil Ryan - 9846 6644 [email protected] [Repeat] The most recent meeting was held on March 27th, 2019 The group viewed and discussed:

for her Club presentation on the Islands Of Scotland.

• Phil’s “Country Corners” collection. • Phil’s “Empire Rone” installation at

Burnham Beeches. • Also discussed were various AV plans,

ideas and technical aspects.

Date of next meeting to be advised.

Scenic Landscape Group Coordinators: Pam Rixon –0421 813 531 [email protected] Marg Walton – 0400 311 128 [email protected] Scenic Group Outing To Puffing Billy and Emerald Lake Saturday May 4th

It was a typical Dandenongs day of mixed weather. We dodged heavy rain, light showers and cold at Puffing Billy and we then enjoyed some sunshine for our picnic and nice afternoon light at Emerald Lake.

Mono Group Co-ordinator Graham Kay – 0403 199 713 [email protected] The first working meeting of the Mono Group was held on Tuesday 7th and 8 members attended. Our early format for the meeting is to bring along some digital images [Arthur brought prints – so that was a bonus!] that members were working on and some idea of what you may have wanted to achieve. These were then shown through a TV screen and all participated in offering guidance and advice and, along the way, picked up some tips on processing mono images via Lightroom All agreed the evening and initial format a great success. Next meeting is on Tuesday June 25th at 76 Melissa Street, Donvale at 8pm. Let Graham know early if you are attending. Details of all DCC “Groups” and their meetings are on the website at: http://doncastercameraclub.org.au [Menu bar -Special Interest Groups]

Technical/Technique Corner, And Other Matters Some interesting, and I hope helpful, articles from the wide world of the Internet. Sometimes articles are brand specific but more often than not the points discussed are relevant to all cameras or computer operating systems. If Canon has a certain function – so will Nikon/Pentax - just with a different name. One of my favourite websites is Photography Life [https://photographylife.com/ ] They have had a number of articles recently that are mainly relevant to landscape photography [but other styles of photography as well] The articles are: Manual Focus or Auto Focus for Landscape Photography https://photographylife.com/landscapes/manual-focus-or-autofocus-for-landscape-photography
