Government plans to providebroadband connectiv ityunder BharatNet Project to allgram panchayats in thecountry.In a written reply in the LokSabha, Electronics and ITMinister Ravi Shankar Prasadsaid that one lakh 28 thousandand 870 gram panchayatshave been connected withoptical fibre till date.Under BharatNet project, thelast mile connectivity is to beprovided at all the 2.5 lakhgram panchayats in thecountry. The Ministerinformed that wi fi spots havebeen installed in 44,140 grampanchayats as of now.The Phase I of the project wascompleted in December 2017,and one lakh gram panchayatswere made service ready. ThePhase II is underimplementation, and a total of2 lakh gram panchayats aretargeted to be completed byMarch 2020.
