DOMAINE J. CACHEUX VOSNE ROMANEE 1ER CRU « LA CROIX RAMEAU »

Founded in the late 1800's by Francois Blée, a vineyard worker for the Domaine Marey-Monge, the domaine today is managed by Patrice Cacheux, the 5th generation to oversee the family domaine in Vosne-Romanée. The domaine of 6.87 hectares produces 2,000 to 2,800 cases per year. The farming is sustainable and the winemaking straight forward. This is classic Burgundy, made without pretense.

Vinification and Elevage: Following harvest, the grapes are de-stemmed, then see a 5-7 day cold maceration, after which they go through a temperature controlled fermentation. The wines age for 18 months in barrique, 25% new for the village wines, and 100% new for the 1er and Grand Cru.

About the Vineyard:  La Croix Rameau is a tiny 1er Cru (.6 ha total) that is an extension of the lower slope of Romanée St. Vivant. There are only 3 owners here, of which Cacheux is one.

Tasting Notes: Aromatic and pretty, with spring cherries, violets earth and mushrooms.
