A Message from the President:
The Dolphin Club...21 years and still going strong!
3rd & Final Notice
If you have not yet paid your dues for 2011, be sure to get your
renewal in before the end of the year,
Please do not wait until the last minutes to pay your dues as it
makes a lot more work for me to have a lot of them come in all
at once. Please help and get your dues in now!
Thanks,
Diane Rogers
Membership Coordinator
W ell, here it is, finally! The message you all
have been waiting patiently for. My LAST
President’s Message! It is hard to believe that two
years have gone by already. I really appreciate the
positive support from all of you. It made the job an
easier one than I thought it would be.
Thank you to all the Board and Appointed officers for
your support and dedication to the continued success of
The Dolphins. I will not list all your names to keep this
message to a reasonable length.
We will be installing the new slate of Officers at the
Bakersfield Rally, January 6 – 10, 2011 and I hope you
have made your reservations for this rally as I think it
will fill up fast. This will also be the first Board &
General Membership Meeting for the newly elected
officers. This will be your opportunity to hear from
them and see what they may be planning for the future
for the Dolphins. It is also your chance to bring matters
of concern of yours before the Board and the General
Membership.
I am proud of our administration and what we
accomplished. We reinstituted the Guest Policy, added
the new, appointed position of Dolphin Club
Photographer and was successful in getting Paul
Speaker to take that role. He has done an excellent job!
Not only has Paul added much more to our photo-
graphic record of events, but Paul has helped some of
our other photographers in organizing and distributing
those wonderful pictorial records of our club. Dolphin
Club Members who had not previously Trail Bossed a
Rally stepped forward to do so. We went to new loca-
tions such as Pahrump, NV and Camp Verde, AZ.
This has continued the excellent tradition of planned
activities of The Dolphins. The Rally Calendar for 2011
has many openings for Rallies to be planned. If you are
looking for somewhere to go, just check out the “My
Favorite Campgrounds” on the club website. There
are MANY to choose from. Step forward as Ray &
Linda Gott and Paul & Nancy Speaker have to create
more opportunities to meet up with our dear friends
and party!
I do wish to apologize for missing so many Dolphin
Rallies this past year. It was our intention to attend as
many as possible, but there were just too many con-
flicts with our calendar. Carole and I had family obli-
gations, trip conflicts and health issues that prevented
us from joining you.
Again, thank you for all your support during this past
year. And a special big THANK YOU to my wonderful
Vice-President, Bob Frauenzimmer. Bob was a big
help all through the past two years. We conferred on
many of the issues facing our club, and he gave me
great input when writing the President’s Messages. I
think a special thanks goes to Nubby and Carole, who
looked over our shoulders and corrected some of our
errors.
Hope to see you at an upcoming Dolphin Club Rally!

Rock Springs, Arizona ROCK SPRINGS, for hundreds of years, has been variously an Indian Encampment, a bivouac, and the watering stop for miners, cattle drivers and sheepherders during the western expansion of the U.S., as well as a watering stop for the Black Canyon Stage from 1884 until 1917. The first commercial use of the property was made in 1920 by the young (18) Ben Warner, who built a canvas-covered store while making the adobe blocks for the Hotel and General Store, which opened in 1924. The Hotel housed many notables, including early Hollywood stars, Tom Mix and Jean Harlow. The journey in or out of Phoenix to the gold and silver mines of the Bradshaws- when an auto trip of 60-70 miles generally engendered 10 to 12 flat tires and numerous overheated vehicles was arduous. The Goldwater family, who were early Arizona pioneers, were frequent visitors stopping to rest and enjoy some of Rock Strings` justly famous blackberry pie. Waylon Jennings and Marty Robbins have been known to write songs while enjoying a visit to the saloon. A modern day addition to the bakery would be the Jack Daniel`s Pecan Pie. You`ve got to try it! Saloon, Started in a tent in 1920 by young Ben Warner. When the General Store opened in 1924, the bar moved in with it and stayed there until the Cafe was built. During prohibition, business slowed to a trickle as evidenced by the still above the door in the present bar. In the 1950`s the saloon moved to an addition built on the north end of the building. The present bar was opened on Jan. 1, 1986. Now as always it is a meeting place that caters to all. Check out the 1856 Brunswick front and back bar. General Store and Soda Fountain. One of the first 100 general stores in Arizona, it is among the only 10 still in exis-tence today.

2010 Chula Vista Rally
T he 6 trail-bosses all breathed a big sigh of relief on Sunday morning that the weather held up.....barely! No
rain, but there was the occasional sprinkle. Again, it was a fun-filled and action-packed rally at a spectacular
location. Thanks to the members in the 49 coaches that attended, and a special thank you to our fabulous team: The
Hubbard's, The Frauenzimmer's, and The Justice's.
Our Bocce Ball Contest this year, as always, had many participants, with 1st place honors going to Sandy & Lynn
Mayer, and in 2nd place to Phil & Judy Statham. The next day was "The Putting Contest" with, yet again, another
fabulous course designed by Syd Byford--"Golf Course Superintendent". Ivan Hinerman was the 1st Place Winner
with a 3-round total of 27. Ken Korhonen took 2nd and Sandy Mayer took 3rd. There were 4 Holes-In-One, all on
Hole #2, by Ed Hessemer, Ivan Hinerman, Don Mruk and Nubby Frauenzimmer. Don't believe her when she says she
"doesn't golf"....this "ringer" took first place in our first year's tournament!!
There were many awards during Suzanne's "presentation": Longest Mileage was awarded to 1st Timers Jay & Terri
Hathaway at 673 miles from Anderson, California, beating out several attendees who came in from Arizona. Honored
with a super-sized birthday card, signed by all our members that weekend, was Art DuBord who turned 90 years young
this year. He and Lorene also received the bottle of "Old Fart Wine" for having the oldest FMCA number at the rally:
#164879. The Guess-The-Tab contest, which benefits the Kiwanis Builder's Club, was guessed EXACTLY by Mary
Jane Hubbard, who became the recipient of the dolphin bead banner.
Since the Justice's daughter was married just a few weeks before the rally, Suzanne couldn't help herself and had to
throw in a few slides (only 5!!!) from the special day. Also making its way into the slide show was a tribute to those
married in 1975 and celebrating 35 years: Steve/Suzanne Justice (August) and Ed/Judy Hessemer (March). It was
great to "look back in time" and see our members as they looked on their special day. So, if you would like to share
your wedding photos with the group at the next Chula Vista Rally, whether married for 3 days or 80 years, please send
photos by e-mail to "[email protected]" or you can use snail-mail and send to our home address. (Photos sent
by regular mail WILL BE returned).
I not only like to entertain, but educate as well, so I incorporated a tutorial on the "Union Suit" from the Civil War era,
using Bill Matthews as my "model". Thanks Bill....my personal favorite was the tie-dye one of you from the 60's.
A Board Meeting was held Saturday morning, followed by a General Meeting. Immediately afterward we held our
very first Tech Panel. Our panel of experts, Bob Frauenzimmer, Ed Hessemer, Chuck McGaughy and Syd Byford, pro-
vided much useful information on a variety of subjects...then fielded questions from the audience. Steve Justice added
a measure of humor as he acted as "moderator." We're still not sure which tool wins the coveted "Can't Be Without It"
award, but I vote for Goop over Duct Tape.
That evening we all feasted on hamburgers with all the trimmings. Many stayed, as usual, to dance to the tunes of Cal-
ico Ridge.
