DogsinschoolAnumberofparentshavecommentedthatthereareanincreasingnumberofdogsontheschoolpremisesatthebeginningandendoftheday.Someparentsandchildrenarequitewaryofdogsandsomeofourchildrenhaveallergiestoanimalssopleasedotakethisintoconsideration.Ideallydogsshouldnotbebroughtintotheschoolgrounds.Ifyoumustbringyourdog,then
itshouldbecarried.Tyingupadogoutsidetheschoolcanbringwithititsowncomplicationsastheywilloftenbarkand/orbeuncomfortableiftheyareawayfromtheirownerandthereareotherdogspresent.Wherepossible,dopleaseleaveyourdogathome! Thanksforyourunderstanding.

NewsfromY1,Y2andY3Wellwearenearlyhalfwaythroughtheschoolyearandwearesoproudofallthechildren'shardwork.OurtopicswillcontinueaftertheupcominghalftermbreaksopleasecontinuetosupportyourchildinlearningsomeofthefactsfromtheirKnowledgeOrganiser.IwouldalsoliketotaketheopportunitytothankalltheadultswhoattendedthephonicsandspellingworkshopsinY2andY1-it'sgreattobeabletosharesomeoftheteachingstrategiesweuseinschool,foryoutouseathome.Haveagreatweekandagoodhalftermbreak. NewsfromY4,Y5andY6ThechildreninKeyStage2havebeenworkingincrediblyhardaseveroverthepasttwoweeks.ThechildreninYear4havebeenbusilypreparingfortheirYirstresidentialtriptotheMargaretMcMillancentreinWrothamthisweek.ThechildrenwillbeawaybetweenWednesdayandFridayandareveryexcitedabouttheactivitiesandteamgamesawaitingus.ThechildreninYear5havebeenlearningaboutlifeinVictorianDeptfordandhavebeenproducingsomefantasticpersuasivewritingaboutlifeinaworkhouse.ThechildreninYear6meanwhilearebringingtheirtopicofChildreninWartoaclosethisweekwithavisittotheChurchillWarRoomsinCentralLondon. NewsfromNurseryandReceptionEYFShavebeeninterestedinseedsandgrowingeversincesharingthestory'TheEnormousTurnip'acoupleofweeksago.Allthechildren,includingouryoungestNurserychildren,havelearnedthestorybyheartandsomehaveevencreatedtheirownversions!Wespentsometimelookingcloselyatanddissectingvegetablesthathaveseedsinsideandhavemadesomeamazinglinedrawingsofthem.Wehavebegunplantinginouroutsidearea-ifyouareakeengardenerorhavesomeseedsorpotstosparewewouldwelcomeanydonations!ThisweekReceptionwillbeexploringChineseNewYear,creatinglanternsandperhapshavingagoatsomeChinesewriting. InclusionNewsOverthelastfortnighttheschoolhasbeenbusymakingmanyreferralstoourOutreachservicesforchildrenacrosstheschool.ThisinvolvesliaisingwithandarrangingforspecialistsinAutism,Child
PsychologyandBehaviourtoworkalongsidetheschooltosupportchildrenwithmanydifferentneeds.TheInclusionteamhavebeenworkingespeciallycloselywithYear6toassessandreviewchildren'sprogressinthiscrucialacademicyear.Ihavealsobeenmonitoringattendancethistermwithafocusonensuringeveryoneunderstandsourexpectationthateverychildshouldhaveanattendanceof96%acrosstheacademicyear.AsalwaysifyouhaveanyqueriesregardinganythinginclusionrelatedthenpleasefeelfreetoemailmeatdYielding@ashmead.lewisham.sch.ukAlternativelyyoucanYindmeintheplaygroundmostmorningsandafternoons. Governornewsfromournewsupportstaffgovernor:JoyValizadehAsthenewestmemberofGovernorsIfeltveryanxiousaboutattendingmyYirstmeeting,wonderingifIwouldbeoutofmydepth.However,Ifoundmostofitprettyselfexplanatory.Ithoughtthewaythepolicydocumentsweresplitintosectionsforustolookatinsmallgroupsallowedmetosettleinandthegroup’sinsightgavemeabetterunderstandingofthetexts'meaning.I’veoftenwonderedhow,whyandwhoweremakingdecisionsandpoliciesforschoolsandthatwasmymainreasonforwantingtobecomeapartofthegoverningbody.WhatItookawayfromthemeetingwasexactlywhatIwashopingtoYind,thatAshmeadhasacompetentcommitteewatchingoverit.Ifeellhavethechildren’sbestinterestsatheartandlhopelcanbringaneutralvoicetothegroupaswellasgoodunderstandingoftheday-to-daypracticalitiesofschoollife.Ialsoseemyselfasastrongadvocateforchildren’swell-beingandhappinessandamlookingforwardtocontinuingmyjourneyasagovernor.!
