Dear Dodge County 4-H,
As UW-Extension continues to transition to UW-Madison, our staffing has changed.
In December at a statewide program staff meeting, we learned that in Positive Youth
Development (which includes Wisconsin 4-H) over half of the staff indicated they had
less than 2 years of employment in Extension.
Last month, one of our state 4-H liaison team members also shifted roles in Extension.
This left a support gap for the newer colleagues who indicated that having support in
their new positions as one of the most important needs in their 4-H roles. To help fill
that gap, I have taken on a role as 50% liaison until June 30, 2019.
With my change, comes an opportunity for Dodge County to have a 50% backfill of
my role for that same time period. The Area Extension Director has hired Melissa
Litherland to serve in the role.
Marie Witzel
Dodge County 4-H Youth Development Educator
Interim 4-H Program Coordinator to Join Dodge County Extension Team
My name is Melissa Litherland and I am excited to be working part-time in the Dodge
County UWEX office as the Interim 4-H Program Coordinator. I am looking forward
to collaborating with you to better serve youth in Dodge County 4-H.
A little background about me, I have a M.S. in Biological Sciences and a B.S. in
Zoology from Eastern Illinois University. My background research includes the areas
of neuroscience, animal behavior, and anatomy & physiology. After some time off to
raise our daughters and a few moves throughout the Midwest (IL-OK-MN-WI), I
started substitute teaching for Columbus and Fall River School Districts this year. Our
family has been involved with our local 4-H club (Astico Perseverance) for the past 5
years. I am a Rabbit, Goat, and Cake Decorating project
leader for our club and enjoy learning right alongside my
children and our club as they grow in 4-H. We reside on
a 20-acre hobby farm outside of Columbus, where our
family raises Saanen dairy goats, rabbits, chickens, and
dairy beef. My other interests include cake decorating,
photography, reading, science and art.
I am excited to be a part of 4-H in a new capacity and
look forward to helping make the best better in Dodge
County! Melissa Litherland

MAS Project Member Activity Card
(Orange Card)
Four educational points AND attendance at either a post-fair or
pre-fair meeting are required by the MAS committee for the
education point card. The “4” points are required and can be
obtained by attending educational livestock events. AT
LEAST 2 of the points need to be gotten at a county or state
educational event. For some youth who have no means to have
“local club” learning events, it is always possible to have all 4 or more points obtained from county or state events.
If an “out of county” event is where a point will be obtained,
use the back of the card to explain the event AND obtain a
signature that can be identified so a call may be given if the
committee has questions.
No educational event may give a youth more than 1
educational points (even if other county’s youth obtain 2+
points for such an event).
Youth attending college may obtain a point for agricultural
events attended by obtaining MAS committee approval.
