Some academic programs require work as part of the curriculum
Foreign students who wish to participate in a co-op or internship programs must apply for the Coop Work Permit along with the Study Permit
Coop work permit allows students to work full-time (paid or unpaid) while not taking a full-time course load.
It is a FREE permit
You must have a valid study permit. Coop/Internship must be an essential part of your
program of study. Employment must be part of your academic, vocational
or professional training program Must be certified by a letter from a responsible academic
official of the institution. Your co-op or internship employment cannot form more
than 50% (percent) of the total program of study. ESL/FSL, general interest or preparatory courses are not
eligible for Coop

Accompanying a family member means you will be staying with a family member who is already in Canada as a visitor, worker or student. Accompanying family member: A spouse, common-law partner, dependent child or grandchild of someone who is still dependent on their parent, who plans to immigrate to Canada with the principal applicant. Accompanying family members are included on the application.

A medical exam is not always required. Please answer truthfully. If a medical exam is required, please upload the e-medical receipt to the application site.

• Click on the “Application to Change Conditions, Extend My stay…” link so that you can save and begin filling out your IMM5710 form.
• E-Medical receipt/explanation letter might be needed.

UCI is also known as the Client-ID and it is found on your study permit.
The document number is found in the top right-hand corner of Study Permit and it begins with an F.
Education – state your highest level of completed educationEmployment- 1st blank asks for CURRENT activity, if you are not working you can put “student”. Other blanks can be filled out with previous work experience.

• Date the form and leave the signature empty, an Online Signature will be requested during Permit submission.
• Don’t forget to validate the application form!
Processing time: about 6 weeks Students shall not start their co-op/internship until
they receive their work permits Co-op/internship work permit can only be used for
the co-op/internship employment only. Co-op/internship work permit shall not be used
after the co-op/internship term ends.
If your study permit will is expiring soon, you will need to renew your study permit and apply for co-op work permit at the same time.
