Taipei City, where the 2010 Taipei International Gardening andHorticulture Exposition will be held, is one of the most unique cities in Asia.With annual high-tech production value more than US$50 billion, Taipei Citystill owns abundant nature such as YangmingshanNational Park, volcanoes andhot spring. Taipei City has cultural resources such as the National PalaceMuseum with its 640,000 pieces of cultural relics, artifacts and true art andnumerous world-class artistic acts.

In the future, with the 2010 Taipei International Gardening andHorticulture Exposition, Taipei will show even more surprising vigor andabundant energy.

Colorful Flowers,Creativity and Achievementsin Gardening

With excellent gardening and biotechnology, Taiwan has successfully reproduced therare moth orchid, which is very popular around the world. Additionally, growing skills oftropical fruits and paddy rice gain world-wide excellent reputation and have been imitated bymany countries. These examples are Taiwan's most brilliant achievements in gardening andbiotechnology.

In the near future, these world famous achievements will all be shown in the 2010Taipei International Gardening and Horticulture Exposition.

The 2010 Taipei International Gardening and HorticultureExposition will be held for the first time in Taiwan from November 6th,2010 to April 25th, 2011. Taiwan is the fourth country and Taipei is theseventh city in Asia to host an international-caliber gardening exposition.This is a chance for Taiwan to show to the world its outstanding gardeningand bio-tech achievements.

Unlike other expositions in Kunming, Hamanako, Chiang Mai andother cities which are held in the suburbs, the 2010 Taipei InternationalGardening and Horticulture Exposition will take place in the city's center asa response to citizens' desire for more green land. Every site plan and designof this year's shows blend with the ideas ofurban renewal.

It is estimated that there will be as many as 6 million touristsvisiting Taipei City for the 2010 Taipei International Gardening andHorticulture Exposition. This will serve to rapidly increase the value of thetourism, catering, gardening and bio-tech in Taiwan and its neighborcountries.

After almost two months of competition, we finally decidedon our mascot and logo. Designers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao,Europe, Japan and the USA have all participated in the competitionthis time. There were1669 entries in total, and the winning entrysmoothly became a unique symbol of the Exposition.

The expo logo is based on five simple petal designs, andeach petal, designed with a moving lines pattern, represents humanbeings' activities, and each of the five colors - blue, green, red,orange, and purple, represents a continent. The five petals combine inabstract images of dancing people figures. These bright colors alsoshow the international quality and cheerful atmosphere of the expo.

The expo mascots are inspired by fairies of seasons. The band symbolizes the harmony offour seasons and composition of the Earth's melody. The expo mascots vividly display the fourseasons of a year and a flower fairy.The spring, summer, fall, winter and flower fairy bring togetherthe soul of all four seasons and a flower fairy, because in Taiwan, different flowers blossoms everyseason.

The flower fairy leads spring, summer, fall and winter and forms the "Flowers Band". Theyplay melodies of the seasons and their colorful outfits and friendly smiles accurately expressharmony, variety, happiness and passion of the 2010 Taipei International Gardening and HorticultureExposition.

With the approaching of the expo, our mascot band will bring cheerful messages to everysingle comer of the world.

Introduction of the Expo SiteThe site of the exposition is located in the Yuanshan area in Taipei City, starting from

YuanshanPark, to the site of the proposed Sculptural Park, and extends all the way to Xinsheng Parkand Dajia Riverside Park.

On the red area in Taipei, the site even includes existing cultural & artistic spots, such asTaipei Soccer Stadium, Taipei Children'sRecreation Center, Taipei Fine ArtsMuseum, Taipei Story House and LinAn-Tai Historical Home. The newly builtexposition hall is a new and the completeexpo site will have 15 halls in total. Thetotal area is as vast as 91.8 hectares. It isa rare giant emerald in TaipeiCity.

Taipei, Taiwan's garden city, does not only have the approachingexposition to boast about. It actually already has its own flower culture,such as cherry blossom season, flower picking, flower teas-all ofwhich areintegral parts to Taipei's individualize flower culture.

Taipei City is in a sub-tropical basin, and it is very good for thegrowth of plants. Furthermore, Taipei also has the most advanced humandevelopment Asia. For a long time, this city has cultivated various floweractivities, such as Yangmingshan Flower Season, the Azalea Festival, CallaLily Festival, and others.
