2.1 Product DocumentsThe documents of the product consist of the two categories.

NOTE

The OptiX OSN 8800 Intelligent Optical Transport Platform is the optical transmission system product ofHuawei Technologies Co., Ltd. In this document, this product is referred to OptiX OSN 8800 for short.

The product documents consist of the following two categories.

l Documents of the OptiX OSN 8800: a package of documents released together with theOptiX OSN 8800. These documents describe the characteristics, functions, workingprinciples and parameters of the equipment. In addition, they provide guidelines fornetwork planning, hardware installation and network commissioning, networkconfiguration and management, and network running and maintenance.

l Documents of the iManager U2000: a package of documents and online help of theiManager U2000 system. These documents provide guidelines for the installation andoperation of the iManager U2000 as well as guidelines for the equipment maintenance onthe U2000.

2.2 Documents of the EquipmentThis section describes the documents of the OptiX OSN 8800 equipment.

2.2.1 Product DescriptionThis section describes the functions, features, specifications and network application of theequipment.

2.2.2 Hardware DescriptionThis section describes the hardware architecture and composition of the equipment, includingboards, interfaces, as well as their functions and parameters.

2.2.3 Feature DescriptionThis section describes the features and functions of the product, including working principle,application, configuration, verification, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

2.2.4 Planning GuidelinesThis section describes the product planning about the service protection schemes, process fornetwork optimization and so on.

2.2.5 Quick GuideThis section describes the basic operational and maintenance information covering most of theday to day activities that will be carried out at a network element (NE). It provides guides forfield engineers to conduct the on-site maintenance.

3 Documentation Development Process

The development of Huawei documentation adopts the engineering method, which consists ofseveral phases, including planning, development, and commercialization. Deliverables in softand hard copies are provided to the users.

The documentation development synchronizes with the hardware and software development,which includes phases such as requirement analysis, design, development and test.

Huawei Information Development Department is responsible for the development of productdocuments. The development of product documents consists of the following phases:

1. Analyze requirements collected from the customers.2. Make a documentation development plan.3. Design the deliverables of the documentation development.4. Develop the original deliverables of product documents.5. Test and verify the deliverables of the documentation development.6. Release the documents.

The quality of the documentation is guaranteed through the implementation of tasks at differentphases and through the decisive review at the last phase.

4.1.1 Soft ReleaseSoft release takes three forms: Online Help, CD-ROM, and Web release.

4.1.2 Hard ReleaseThe hard copies of product documents are delivered together with the equipment according tocontract stipulations.

4.1.3 Release of Upgraded DocumentsThere are three means of releasing the upgraded documents.

4.1.1 Soft ReleaseSoft release takes three forms: Online Help, CD-ROM, and Web release.

Online HelpThe Online Help is integrated with the software and is released together with the software.

CD-ROMAll product documents are delivered in CD-ROM format together with the equipment. The softcopy is stored in the HTML+PDF format.

The documents in CD-ROM format can be installed on the computer or can be read onlinethrough direct running of the CD-ROM.

Web ReleaseThe latest documentation of Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd is released on the following website.

You can retrieve, browse and download the documents from this website.

4.1.2 Hard ReleaseThe hard copies of product documents are delivered together with the equipment according tocontract stipulations.

NOTE

Huawei does not deliver documentation in printed format. Huawei delivers only documentation in CD-ROM format by default.

4.1.3 Release of Upgraded DocumentsThere are three means of releasing the upgraded documents.

The upgrade of product versions is an effective way to enhance the functions and performanceof the product. If the product version is upgraded, the corresponding documents need to beupgraded accordingly. In this way, new product features can be reflected in the documents.

Web ReleaseUpload the latest documents onto Huawei Technical Support website (http://support.huawei.com) and inform the customers of the latest documents.

CD-ROM ReleaseRecord the upgraded part or the entire set of the latest documents onto the CR-ROM and releasethem to the customers.

Hard ReleaseRelease the upgraded part or the entire set of the latest documents to customers in hard copies.

Select one or more of the above means to release the documents after a version upgrade. Thedetermining factors can be the scope of documents affected by version upgrade, or the numberof users of the new product version.

4.2 Obtaining the DocumentsYou can obtain the documents by visiting either the technical support website or the local officeof Huawei.

Currently, the documents can be obtained in two ways.

l Query and download the soft copies from Huawei Technical Support website (http://support.huawei.com). You can directly apply for a user name and a password.Enter your user name and password and log in to the website. Select Documentation >Optical Network Product Line > WDM > OptiX OSN 8800. Then you can retrieve,browse and download the related documents.

l Obtain the hard copies or CD-ROM format of the documents from Huawei local offices.

4.3 Providing FeedbacksYou can feed back your comments or suggestions to Huawei by either dialing the hotline numberof the regional office or sending emails.

Huawei welcomes and values your comments and recommendations. You can use the followingways to provide your comments and recommendations for product documents, Online Help andRelease Notes.

l Dial the hotline of Huawei at the local office.
