EvaluationQUESTION 1

In what ways does your media product use forms and conventions of real media

products?

We used cutaways that were relevant to the topic of the documentary such as the view of the road outside a dashboard, and also a learner driver car. This is similar to the screenshot of the documentary at the top right as it was to do with that topic too.

We have used close-ups and big close-ups during the interviews which have been framed into rule of thirds which is a basic convention. Also, the way the interviews are looking is to the opposite side that they are sitting. This is another basic convention which makes it look more appealing.

The locations we used to film in the documentary were relevant as they were the inside of a young drivers car. However, for other interviews, they background was difficult to choose and so they are plain so there are no distractions. Also, they font and colour of the font we used was simple and easy to read on the backgrounds we had. This is just like the Hunt vs Lauda documentary which is also simple and so this is a basic convention of documentaries. They both also have the text on the opposite side of the interviewee. It is a closed documentary because there are no unanswered questions and is single strand as there is only one narrative thread. It is also non-linear because the interviews throughout are chopped and edited in a particular order.
