Rarely do you have two choices when it comes to selecting a 2nd Vice President to serve on the Lions Clubs International Board. At their recent Council of Governors meeting, it was decided to seize upon his unique opportunity and invite both candidates to Michigan for a personal meeting with the Lions of Multiple District 11 and Single District 10.

Join fellow Lions and candidates, PID Mike Butler, Texas, and PID Bob Corlew, Tennessee, on Friday, November 22, at the Mt. Pleasant Comfort Inn. There will be a pizza buffet available for $12.00/person, followed by a Question & Answer period moderated by Council Chairman, Brian Shepard.

Mike Butler M. P. “Mike” Butler, of Kerrville, Texas, USA, was elected to serve a two-

year term as a director of The International Association of Lions Clubs at the association’s 67th annual convention, held in San Francisco, California, USA, July 1984.

Past Director Mike is a member of the Kerrville Host Lions Club and a Lion since 1974. He has held numerous offices in the association, including district governor and multiple district treasurer. He served as chairperson of the Global Membership Team for 2008-09. Since 2010, PID Mike has served as an area leadership or membership coordinator.

For his efforts on behalf of the association, PID Mike has received the Master Key, the Extension Award, the District Governor’s Extension Award, several International President’s Awards and the Ambassador of Good Will

Award, the highest honor granted by Lions Clubs International to its members. He is also a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

PID Mike and his wife, Lion Sheryl, are involved in their church and community. Sheryl is a member of the Kerrville Sunrise Lions Club. PID Mike has three children, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is the owner and operator of a construction company.

Robert E. Corlew Robert E. Corlew, from Milton, Tennessee, USA, was elected to serve a two-

year term as a director of Lions Clubs International at the association’s 94th International Convention, held in Seattle, Washington, USA, July 4 to July 8, 2011.

Past Director Corlew is chancellor for the State of Tennessee.A member of the Murfreesboro Lions Club since 1978, he has held many

offices within the association, including club president, zone chair, district governor, cabinet secretary and council chair.

He is a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.In addition to his Lions activities, Past Director Corlew has been active

on various boards and in several community organizations, including Boy Scouts, Murfreesboro City Council, Red Cross, General Sessions Judge, Discovery House Museum board of directors, Recreation Commission and Water and Sewer Board.

Past Director Corlew and his wife, Dianne, also a Lion and a Melvin Jones Fellow, have five children and one grandchild.

Good Deeds Campaign UpdateThere’s an old saying “Never take any Wooden Nickels” but in this case you

might just want to ignore that because receiving one of these could just help make your day!

In the previous issue of the LION PRIDE, details of a new PR campaign were revealed combining the use of a wooden nickel, service to others and a Facebook page. An unusual combination, wouldn’t you agree?

The website has gone “viral” every day since it launched in September for a total of 757,733 shared viewings, allowing the Lions logo to be viewed over 3/4 of a million times! Many have found the site inspiring and have asked permission to make “nickels” of their own to distribute in their areas. California, Maryland and North Carolina Lions Clubs have all had the design shared with them so they can join Michigan in helping others “do good deeds.”

South Africa was so inspired by the Good Deeds campaign, we were contacted for details and now they’ve released their new wooden “Care Coin” to promote Lions and Good Deeds! Lions in Ireland are also working on the wooden coin concept. People all over the world have taken notice and believe “One Person Can Make a Difference.”

The recognition we’ve received in Michigan has been incredible, thanks to you. Keep your Good Deeds going, and don’t be shy about posting on the website: https://www.facebook.com/sassycamel. A very special thank you goes out to District Governor Tim Anderson, 11 E1, for creating the campaign and managing the Facebook page. What a success!

Lions QuestMore than 12 million youth have been taught positive life skills through

Lions Quest, our most comprehensive program for youth. Lions Quest unites the home, school and community to cultivate capable and healthy young people through positive youth development programs. More than 500,000 educators have been trained to implement the programs, which supports character development, social and emotional learning, civic values, violence and substance abuse prevention and service-learning.

Lions work with the schools to implement the program from kindergarten through 12th grade, and often partner on community service-learning projects. CEU approved training classes are offered for teachers in the state of Michigan, and any Lion may attend at no cost. What a great opportunity to learn about the program!

The program has drawn rave reviews from educators and high ratings from government agencies. Over the past 25 years, program developers, school districts, universities and independent research firms have conducted program evaluations which indicate that the Lions Quest program improves achievement test scores, changes attitudes and beliefs regarding substance abuse and violence, lowers rates of disciplinary problems, lowers risk of dropping out of school and decreases use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.

Message From District Governor Jake Dasho, District 11D1At our Lions club meeting the other night, the tail twister asked if we

knew the average age of Lions members in 1957. The answer was 47 years old and this got me to thinking about the differences between Lions clubs then and 56 years later.

Of course the obvious is age of members, but what has it got to do with the way clubs are now run? When clubs were expanding in membership, those new young members were willing to take risks, to stick their necks out on new ideas, take on fund raisers and service projects. They knew that their businesses could prosper not only from the contacts they had in the club, but the public’s perception that these were business people who cared about the vitality of the community.

Those Lions were willing to roll up their sleeves and work to improve their community, help those in need and to better themselves. Don’t get me wrong, many Lions work very hard on projects, but as Lions median age has increased the drive of the members has decreased. More often than not they are not taking on the challenging projects. Age has something to do with it, but so has the mindset of taking the safe route. Not taking the risk has led to the clubs becoming complacent. That leads to the question of “What can we do as Lions to change the outlook?” Many of the tools to make changes in the Lions clubs are already in place, including club evaluation to help us understand the problems, attitudes and ideas within the club, and then to assist in finding the solutions to revitalize the club. Encouraging members to attend any of the Lion events where ideas are shared and personal skills honed such as the Leadership Institute, USA Canada Forum or any of the conventions. Making use of the materials available from LCI and its website along with clubs creating and, or using their own website will not only expand personal horizons; but encourage members to take on new challenges within the club.

As all clubs are part of their community, we need to learn how the community perceives us. What the community’s needs are and the ways we can help fulfill those needs. This, of course leads to new projects and programs for the club. The assistance we provide also increases our visibility in the community. When the community becomes more aware of our work it is likely that we will see individuals wanting to be a part of this great organization when we ask them to join. So the questions by the tail twister can provide insight into the evolution of the Lions clubs. We just need to look beyond the short answer to the “What can we do differently?”

Spotlight on Essexville-Hampton Lions ClubIf any club would like to take the challenge to prosper and grow; they

need look no further than the Essexville-Hampton Lions club as an example of success. This group knew they needed some help and sought it out. They worked with Lions at the District and Multiple District levels to initiate and follow through with the Club Excellence Process. Not only have the Essexville-Hampton Lions gained a significant number of members (14 with a total membership of 50) since starting the process, but it has also invigorated the entire club.

The Essexville-Hampton Lions assist the Salvation Army in several ways. During the holiday season members become bell ringers at various sites in the area. The club works with the Salvation Army food bank to collect and distribute food twice a year providing many hours of man power as well as making a generous donation to the food bank. McDonald’s provided the food collection location and a coupon to each contributor and the Lions collected the food. In addition, the club sponsors six tables each year at the Salvation Army Thanksgiving dinner.

The club doesn’t stop there; they continue their community support by sponsoring both boys and girls teams in Little League. The club treasurer also handles hearing aid collection in the community and each year the Essexville-Hampton Lions hold an ice cream social to thank the community for their support; this year they served up 11 gallons of ice cream! To help keep everyone in the club in shape to serve the area the Lions also participate in the local highway clean-up.

To support their service efforts, the club sells Lion mints and holds a tag day. For some time the club has held a raffle called “Roar for Sight” which for $50.00 includes the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful dinner for two(provided by area restaurants), a local TV personality as MC and the chance to win numerous cash prizes. New this year a Texas holdum might has been added.

If your Lions club wants a great example of success from the CEP; Essexville-Hampton Lions club is the one. Congratulations to this hardworking and dedicated group of Lions.

Enclosed is a thank you letter from just one person who has recognized the “Service” of the Essexville-Hampton Lions:

“I talked to my Mother yesterday and she was telling me all about the book reading machine. She was just thrilled to get it. Her eyesight is so poor that she has been spending most of everyday trying to read her mail and then pay the bills with the aid of a hand held magnifier. She just writes the checks by feel and hopes they are legible and that they are correct. Mom has been an avid reader all her life and has not read a book in many years now due to her macular degeneration in both eyes. Yesterday she started to read a book and she was so excited to be able to do that. Even with the reader it is slow work, but at least it is possible. I have not heard her happy in a long time. So as you can surmise, this new machine is like getting a large part of her life back. A big THANK-YOU to you and your organization for making this possible; please extend my thanks to the Lion’s Club for making my Mother so happy. This was a wonderful gift and an answer to our prayers.”

2013-14 Peace Poster Contest"Our World, Our Future" is the theme of the 2013-14 Peace Poster

Contest. Lions clubs can sponsor this art contest for kids in their community for

children in local schools or organized, sponsored youth groups.The District Governors will be voting on submitted entries from each

District at the December Council of Governors meeting in Lansing. One grand prize winner will receive a certificate and a $200.00 check.

2013-14 Essay ContestLions clubs around the state are encouraged to sponsor students in the

Lions International Essay Contest. This essay contest was created to offer an opportunity to visually impaired young people to express their feelings of peace. The theme of the 2013-14 Lions International Essay Contest is “Our World, Our Future.” Students who are visually impaired and who are ages 11, 12 or 13 on November 15, are eligible to participate.

Each essay must be submitted with a completed entry form. Essays must be no longer than 500 words in length, submitted in English, type-written in black ink and double-spaced.

The District Governors will be voting on submitted entries from each District at the December Council of Governors meeting in Lansing. One grand prize winner will receive a certificate and a check in the amount of $200.00.

Follow Your Dream To Toronto, Canada 2014LCI and the Lions of Michigan are making plans for an exciting

convention in Toronto, Canada! Early registration is December 31. Refer to LCI’s website for complete registration information. Registration fee is discounted if received early!

The designated Michigan hotel will be the Chelsea Eaton, located less than two miles from convention headquarters. PDG Harry Johnson has been elected as vice-chair of the International Convention Committee and will assist PDG Lautzenheiser in the planning and organization of the convention details for Michigan Lions. Watch for details in upcoming issues of the Lion Pride.

White Cane Scholarship Applications Now Being AcceptedThe Lions of Michigan White Cane Committee will award three, $3,000.00

scholarships in 2014. The White Cane Scholarship is open to all students who are legally blind and are currently attending or accepted by an accredited trade or business school, college or university.

The winners will be announced at the Michigan Forum, to be held on February 15, 2014, at the Ramada Inn, Lansing, MI.

Lions Youth Exchange ProgramThe deadline to apply for the 2014 Lions Youth Exchange Program is quickly

approaching. Application and details are available on the Lions of MI website, and new this year is a PR video, giving an overview of the program and features students and host families alike. All funds gathered to pay for the trip are to be given to the district chair who forwards the monies to the state chair. A spread sheet of funds accrued will be forwarded to the district chair and youth via email periodically. Some monies may filter into an account from club transfers of funds.

Included with the ticket prices above are a non-refundable $150 administration fee, banners, pins, backpack, T-shirt, & LYEP sweatshirt.

November Is National Diabetes Education MonthThe primary goal of the Diabetes Awareness Program is to reduce the

number of new cases of blindness caused by diabetic retinopathy. Diabetes many times can be prevented. Type 1 may not be prevented and

it comes on quickly. Research has shown that a modest weight loss of 15 pounds and regular physical activity 30 minutes a day can prevent Type 2.

Let’s do our part in preventing blindness. Tell another person about the importance of early detection and taking good care of their diabetes.

“Torch Relay Race” For Children’s Hospital Network Challenge The Lion members of District 11 A1 were challenged by PDG Jim Pettinato

of 11 A2 to walk in the “Torch Relay Race” for Children’s Hospital Network at the Detroit Riverfront. District Governor Evelyn Cooper rallies her district in their A1 newsletter by saying, “we have to come out in force and run/walk to show them that we are the best. If you can’t do either, please come out and cheer for us and make a donation”. The Beaumont Children’s Hospital would benefit from the proceeds of

charity race as mentioned by Katie Groves representative of the Hospital: “The Torch Relay is important to Beaumont Children’s Hospital because all of the funds raised go directly to Beaumont patients,” says Katie Groves, Beaumont Foundation. “It’s very satisfying to know that by walking and contributing to The Torch Relay, we are creating resources that go directly to help care for some of our littlest, sickest patients.”

Richmond Lion Club Represent the Good Old Day’s FestivalThe Richmond Lion Club members again turned out in force to man the

concession wagon (newly painted by Lion Leonard) on the festival grounds. Lion Judi was pleased with club member support at the Good Old Days

Festival where our club provided concessions for the bump and run, figure eight and demo derby events. Just under $3,000 profit was reported by Lion Judi and Lion President Susan was very thankful for the participation of several of our newest, younger member families the Yarochs, DeVos, Bertolottis and Lion Chris Werner. President Susan also thanked club members for again working so hard this summer on so many community projects.

Royal Oak Lions Treated To ‘A Taste of Detroit’The Royal Oak Pride of Lions with District 11-A2 Governor, John Kontos

presents ‘A Taste of Detroit’ for the International Clients at Leader Dogs for the Blind. They were provided with Coney Dog Kits & Baklava. A taste treat for those that are from North, South & Central America. Just another wonderful memory for them to return home with their new partner in life. The same evening the Royal Oak Lions Club was honored to have Joe Grimm, who wrote the book Coney Detroit as our speaker. He wrote the book of the history of Coneys in Detroit.

Waterford Lions Choose To Rebuild!For 64 years the Waterford Lions Club has worked very hard to do the job of

a Lions Club and to make sure that all of the programs and eye glasses were taken care of. The club then ran upon some hard times (as do a lot of Lions Clubs) with the drop of membership and the problem of the members not wanting to take part. However, this is a story with a happy ending. The Waterford Lions Club voted to not turn in their Charter and to work to pull the club back together. District 11-A2 Governor John Kontos has placed three District Lions to be rebuilding Lions for the Waterford Lions Club. This has helped and this wonderful, hardworking Lions Club is coming back and doing an outstanding job. Seen in the attached picture is the Waterford Lions Club out with a new project of selling pumpkins. Members turned out to work and it developed into a very good project.

Hanover-Horton Area Lions Club: An on-going project for Hanover Horton Area Lions is providing school supplies to the Hanover Horton Elementary

School. After determining what items would best serve the students, club members purchased items and presented them to Principal Forgione.

60 Years of Service Celebration: November 16 – Congratulations to Grass Lake, Marshall, Munith, Napoleon, and Parma-Spring Arbor Lions Clubs!

New Lions Service Club Chartered in DexterA Charter Night Banquet was held on September 24, 2013 at St. Andrews

Church of Christ for the Dexter Cedars Lions Club. Lions Club International approved their charter on June 6, 2013. The club has 23 charter members and is sponsored by the Dexter Lions Club. There were 92 Lions, Lionesses, and guests present at the banquet to see the new Lions members inducted by District Governor Barry Allen of District 11-B1. The officers of the club were installed by newly elected International Director Esther LaMothe. Representatives from the clubs in District 11-B1 were on hand to also present gifts to the newest club chartered in the District. The new officers for the Dexter Cedars Lions Club are: President Ermil Jones, Secretary Heidi Ford, Treasurer Leila Bauer, Vice-President Terri Hamad, Membership Chair Bob Parmer, Director Beverly Baker-Jones, Tail Twisters Suzanne Stevens and Elena Lavsatida, Lion Tamer John Hale and Chaplain Margie VanMeter. The meal was prepared by Frank Schramm and helping with the serving were members of the Dexter High School Leos Club. The Dexter Cedars Lions club will have two Dexter Lions as their Guiding Lions for the next two years and they are Terry Walters and Dick Dettling. The Dexter Cedars Lions will be working with the Dexter Lions on the upcoming Apple Daze. The club members are anxious to get started and provide service and support to the Community of Dexter. The Dexter Cedars Lions will meet monthly on the second Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at their Club House.

Blissfield Lions Have A Great School Supply DriveFulfilling the motto “WE SERVE”, the Blissfield Area Lions Club sponsored

their annual School Supply Drive for families within the Blissfield School District. They gave thanks to Amy Hayford, the Blissfield Kiwanis Club, the volunteers and the many who donated supplies. Big thanks went to the Adrian Meijer and Walgreen stores for their financial support of this year’s drive.

Napoleon Lions Sponsor Punt, Pass & Kick CompetitionThe Napoleon Lions sponsored the 45th Punt, Pass & Kick competition that

was open to all boys and girls in grades 1-6. 105 students participated this year; each student received a tee shirt and the top five finishers in each grade received a trophy and neck medallion. Fifteen Lion members worked this event. Don Anderson, Napoleon Lion, has been the project chair for this event for the entire 45 years. Don is a former teacher, school principal, coach and athletic director.

Fall Conference: Generous donations were made to all of our 9 Projects, and LCIF this year. Guest speaker was Wendy Burns, Executive Director, Lions of Michigan.

St. Joseph Lion Gene Robinson HonoredSt. Joseph Township Lion Gene Robinson was the 2013 recipient of the

United Way of Southwest Michigan Powerful Giving Award in BASIC NEEDS. Lion Gene was nominated by the St. Joseph Township Lions Club and has a volunteer resume that boasts over 50 years of service. He has also volunteered with organizations such as 1st United Methodist Church, Boy Scouts, the Soup Kitchen, Emergency Shelter, and St. Joseph Lincoln Senior Center. Lion Gene states it best: “Life has been so good to me and I feel a responsibility to pay it back and pay it forward to others.”

Covert Lions ClubThe Covert Lions Club held their annual Swiss Steak Dinner near the end

of August and their annual Harvest Bazaar-Bake sale and Craft Sale in October.

Camp Leo The LionCamp Leo the Lion is a one-week residential summer camp for youngster

with disabilities in the area of Southwestern Michigan. The camp began approximately twenty years ago by the Berrien County Intermediate School District now called Berrien R.E.S.A. In the early 1980’s State funding of the camp was halted due to the poor financial climate in Michigan and Camp Leo was in danger of closing. The Lions and Lioness Clubs of Southwestern

Michigan stepped in to raise the necessary funds to keep the camp in operation. The R.E.S.A. continues to staff and set the structure of Camp Leo with funding provided through the Lions Clubs. This year twenty girls and twenty boys with various disabilities were able to attend Camp Leo the Lion. Afternoon activities for the campers include: a 100 foot slip and slide, pedal car races, swimming in the pool, laser tag, paint ball, carpet ball, gaga ball, crafts and tubing down the river. The campers and counselors were divided by cabin to participate in the sixth annual “Lion Olympics”. The lion Olympics include competition with “Lion Ball”, Lion Mane Relay’, “Sandy Paws”, “Lion Tossing”,” Cub Carry”, “Capture the tail” and other Lion themed games. Evening events included: a Sunday night ice cream social, Monday night movie, Tuesday night talent show and the weeks special event the Lions Carnival. The campers always look forward to the games, cookout and time spent with the Lions who make the camp possible. This year with a contribution from an anonymous donor, the campers were provided the experiences of both a Hot Air balloon and a magician. While the campers are able to enjoy many great events during the week; they also are learning basic responsibilities. They are must participate in cabin clean-up, campground stick pick up, “table hopping”, which is delivering family style food to the tables in addition to cleaning up after the meals. The goal of Camp Leo the Lion is to provide youngsters with disabilities a camping experience that facilitates; self-discovery, an understanding and appreciation of nature and the opportunity to learn and socialize with their peers.

Marne Lion Floyd Bradley HonoredThe Marne Lions would like to thank the many other Lions and clubs who

Rockford Lions Help West Michigan Miracle LeagueThe West Michigan Miracle League opened up with its inaugural baseball

game in September. Hundreds of spectators and dozens of children attended the festivities. The smiles on the faces of the kids said it all. This is a “field of dreams”. Two years ago, when the committee who created the West Michigan Miracle League called on the Rockford Lions Club to make a donation, the Club’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to commit $10,000. It was a grand slam project! After all, one of the four pillars of Lionism is “engaging youth”. What better way to support young people in the community.

Grand Rapids Lions Pledges Money to Miracle FieldThe Grand Rapids Lions Club also had a hand in the Nate Hurwitz “Miracle

Field” at the Rockford Sports Complex when they donated $10,000 last spring to match a pledge the Rockford Lions made. The pledge by Grand Rapids would be paid over five years with the club sponsoring the third base dugout by displaying this GR Lions sign.

St. Johns Lions Screen Eyes At Health FairAt The Annual Fall Health Fair the St. John’s Lions and Lioness club

members PEEK vision screened 40 youngsters and adults. There were 5 individuals that were referred for additional testing by a vision professional.

Holt Lions Host 2nd Annual ‘Halloween In The Park’The Holt Lions second annual Halloween in the Park party took place in

John Bulsey went on to explain how the fund raising and purchase of envelopes along with paying for the Food Bank newsletter helps the Food Bank and the community at large. We are happy to help the Food Bank and our relationship with them continues to grow.

Gleaners Food Bank Wins Big With The Brighton Lions Summer RaffleBrighton Lions hosted their annual Summer Raffle, with tickets being sold

at downtown festivals and to many different supporters. The cash prize winners are drawn in September and, in a wonderful surprise, tickets in the name of Gleaners Food Bank were drawn for 1st and 6th prize! The total winnings for the Food Bank were $1,050.00, which was presented to Gleaners representative Dave Bell by Brighton President Lion Don Nelson. The raffle was a double winner for the Brighton Community!

Fenton Lions Serve VeteransFenton Lions Club lived up their motto, “We Serve”, on September 20 when

they prepared and served a lunch at the United Methodist Church for the veterans of the Michigan chapter of the 101st Airborne Division Association. According to Russ Eaton, chapter president, former paratroopers, glidesman, and assault troopers rendezvous every year at a location somewhere in Michigan. It’s a time to reminisce, greet old comrades, and make new friends. The veterans were entertained by the Loose Senior Center Choir singing songs from the various eras the veterans served.

Essexville-Hampton Lions ClubEssexville-Hampton Lions Club would like to thank all who participated in

our “Lions Roar-4-Sight” Raffle. It was again a great success with close to 1,000 people in attendance. A great time was had by the majority of people attending.

Fairgrove Lions ClubLabor Day weekend was our Michigan Bean Festival, where the Fairgrove

Lions have a food stand. We sell brats and hot dogs, etc. On August 31, Lion Joe Gwizdala brought the vision screening camera and 23 children were screened and had zero referrals. It was a great weekend.

Swartz Creek Lions ClubThe cataract patient that ended up being helped by the Durand Lions was

gracious enough to contact the club after her procedure was done. She is so pleased with how everything went that she agreed to visit the club during a regular meeting.

Gaines Area Lions ClubThe Fairgrove Lions Club held their Annual Spaghetti Dinner at the United

Methodist Church which included a 50/50 drawing.

East Flint Lions ClubThe East Flint Lions put on a Harvest Dinner at their Lions Clubhouse.

The Harvest meal included Turkey and all the Trimmings.

Berville Lions Hold Annual Halloween Pumpkin FestThe Berville Lions Club sponsored their annual Halloween pumpkin fest.

The Pumpkin Fest is organized and sponsored for all area children every year. There is a contest for the biggest pumpkin and largest vegetables that children grow, adults, also. Berville Lions awards trophies to the winner of each category. The children are treated to hot dogs, chips, cookies, and cider. The Lions set up crafts and pumpkin decorating, with two clowns creating balloon animals. This year PDG Jerry Howard and the Lions set up the KidSight eye screening with the new digital camera. This allowed the parents to have the children’s eyesight screened free. Berville Lion members did the intakes and permission slips for Lion Jerry.

Almont Lions Donate Liberty Day BooksThe Almont Lions club has donated Liberty Day books to the Almont and

Dryden Schools. Liberty books started out to help teach basic civics. These constitution books were the inspiration of a couple that were Denver Colorado Lion members. There had been complaints from school teachers starting to teach their young civic students that there were important items missing from the text books. There was concern from the schools that there was not a word about the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution of the United States. The administration told the teachers there was not enough room in the text books. The Denver Lions received enough sponsorship to publish the little constitution book that students can carry in their pockets. There are two dates recommended to pass these books out to the students, Liberty Day Sept. 17, and Mar 16, James Madison’s birthday. James Madison was one of the biggest contributors to the Constitution. The books are given to the 5th grade students to keep with them so they can reference it at any time.

Northport Lions Hold Successful FundraisersNorthport Lions have again held their annual charitable concert at the

local auditorium, with renowned pianist Bob Milne performing to approximately 300 persons The Northport Lions Club also held its annual “Fly-In” at the local airport and, in spite of overcast and threatening weather, had over 800 attendees paying for the pancake breakfast, enjoying the local Northport Community Band, and the antique car display. The total monies raised each year, amounting to $10,000/year on the average, go to a number of local charities, including the Leelanau Children’s Center, Leelanau Christian Neighbors, prescriptions for uninsured persons needing help and the Leelanau County Laundry Project among others.

Cadillac Lions Help Local SoldierThe Cadillac Lions Club to help the family of Michigan Army National

Guard soldier Jordan Hendrix. Jordan, JD to his friends had been severely injured in an automobile accident on his way to report to Camp Grayling. He had been in a coma for 18 days at the time the request was made. To be near him his family had to travel from North Carolina to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, and Jordan’s father Mark had to leave his job to be with his son. The lodging and food bills have been mounting up since. The Lions of Michigan Foundation was one of the organizations contacted on the family behalf by Camp Grayling. They immediately contacted the Cadillac Lions Club since Jordan resided in the Cadillac area. The club in turn sent a request for assistance for the Hendrix family to the Foundation. By the end of the week the Cadillac Lions had received a check for $1,000 for Jordan’s family. This was presented during a fund raiser at the American Legion Hall in Lake City.

Carson City Lions Welcome DG Tim AndersonDistrict Governor Tim Anderson visited with the Carson City Lions Club at

Lewiston Lions Club 4th Annual Golf OutingThe Lewiston Lions Club held its 4th annual Charity Golf Outing. The

Outing was held at Elk Ridge Golf Course in Atlanta, Michigan. Approximately 40 golfers participated in this year’s tournament and enjoyed perfect weather for the day. A steak dinner, catered by J & B’s Bar & Grill in Vienna, was enjoyed after a day of golf.

Oscoda Lions 50th AnniversaryThe Oscoda Lions Club celebrated their 50th year Anniversary and held

another successful (13th) Annual Fall Festival Arts & Craft Show. The event brought in almost 600 visitors and included over 80 exhibitors.

Mio Lions ClubMio Lions Club held their annual senior fishing-picnic days with 125

seniors from area nursing homes and held their annual golf tournament. Made donations to the Lions of Michigan Foundation, Bear Lake, Michigan Eye

Bank, Leader Dog, All State Band and the River House Shelter and also purchased glasses for a local citizen.
