9. Aims of the Programme

The MBA Programme is an advanced business education which provides learning experience that incorporates functional areas in Accounting, Finance, Marketing and Management to become effective managers and leaders of business organizations in a globally competitive and complex business environment. Upon completion of the programme, MBA graduates, one (1) to three (3) years after graduation, will be able to :

1) Practice effectively as management professionals by demonstrating competency in Accounting, Finance, Marketing and Management, and applying critical thinking, analysis and problem-solving skills to develop, implement, and evaluate solutions in complex business problems requiring interdisciplinary and global perspectives; and

2) Promote high ethical standards and professionalism by evaluating the moral, social, and

environmental implications of managerial decisions and understanding the relationship between business organizations and other societal institutions

Teaching and Learning Methods

Lecture-Discussion. Lectures and discussions are used to enforce student acquisition of high level knowledge. The lecture explains in-depth the advanced concepts of the course to allow students to use the study time more effectively. The focus of the lecture is to guide, explain and facilitate discussions from among the students in the class rather than to transmit facts which can be read from the recommended textbooks or reading materials.

Seminars. Seminars complement the lectures. These are interactive sessions conducted by students. It is designed to give students opportunity to test their understanding of the materials covered in the lectures.

Case Study / Problem-solving. These allow students to apply the concepts, methodologies, research-based analysis and business-related tools in order to analyze and solve. The case study serves as a supplement to the theoretical knowledge imparted during the lecture component of the class.

Workshop / Group Work / Assignments / Simulations / Role Play. These learning methodologies involve students working in small groups and encourages group learning. The methodologies provide opportunities for independent learning, creative and reflective thinking, debate and discussions amongst members of the group to provide an opportunity for students to develop depth and breadth in the understanding of the course.

Research and Presentation. This learning methodology develops the students’ research skills and presentation skills. It provides an opportunity for critical thinking and broadens the theoretical knowledge in the lecture component of the class.

Company visit. Students are exposed to the actual work environment to create a realistic situations and learn the lessons by observing the workplace or actually doing the job.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is done independently for each course. Variety of assessment tools will be used to assess achievement of intended learning outcomes including but not limited to: major exams, assignments, case analysis and presentations, including research projects.

14. Admission Criteria

Graduate Applicants:

Acceptance to the programme depends on the following criteria: Graduate applicants should have a Bachelor’s Degree, with a minimum CGPA of 2.75.

For business graduate with a CGPA equivalent to at least 2.25 (B-) and obtain a minimum score of 80 in OOPT (Oxford Online Placement Test), the applicant proceeds to CORE courses; otherwise, he shall register in Pre-MBA courses;

For business graduates with a CGPA beyond 2.25 (B-) and all non-business graduates, they are required to register in pre MBA courses;

Applicants shall submit a certificate of at least two-year work experience and two (2) recommendation letters. They may be excluded from the requirement of obtaining experience, if the student attained a GPA of at least “Very Good” or its equivalent.

Any applicant can also presents the following results for exemption in taking the placement test: GMAT of 580, GRE of 150, TOEFL score of at least 550 (80iBT) or IELTS score of 6.0; and,

And, they shall pass the personal interview conducted by the Committee.
