Abstract

• Mesh access point and mesh portal definition– What is written in D3.04– What is the problem– Suggested changes

Mesh access point and mesh portal definition

• What is written in D3.04:– 3.s4 mesh access point: A mesh station (STA) that is collocated with one

or more access point(s).– 3.s14 mesh portal: A mesh station (STA) that is collocated with one or

more portal(s).

• “mesh access point” and “mesh portal” are “mesh STA”.

Mesh access point and mesh portal definition

• What is the problem?– Mesh access point sounds like one type of “access point”, rather than mesh

STA.– Mesh portal sounds like one type of “portal”, rather than mesh STA.

Let us consider “mesh STA”+”AP” type of WLAN device…

Mesh access point and mesh portal definition

• What is the problem? (Cont’d)– Mesh access point should be something like “nickname” for the device.

(not a formal logical entity for a type of mesh STA)– Define a new nickname for this entity, or state “mesh STA collocated with

AP”.

Mesh AP(mesh STA) Access point

Mesh BSS Infrastructure BSS

“Mesh access point” should be this guy.

We should put other name, or simply state “mesh STA collocated with AP”

Mesh access point and mesh portal definition

• Suggested changes:– Change the definition of mesh access point to read “A type of device that

contains both mesh STA and access point and bridges the traffic between mesh BSS and infrastructure BSS”

– Change the references to mesh access point to be “mesh STA collocated with AP”

Mesh BSS over multiple channels

• What is written in D3.04:– In D3.0, Annex V.1. (Overview of Unified Channel Graphs)

describes how a single mesh BSS can be operated over multiple channels.

– In D3.04, previous Annex V.1 is removed, and there is no description regarding the mesh BSS operation over multiple channels at all.

• What is the problem:– Readers may make misunderstanding that TGs solution does not

support operation over multiple channels.– TGs will receive comments on this in the future ballot.

Mesh BSS over multiple channels

• Suggested changes:– Retrieve the previous Annex V.1. (Overview of Unified Channel

Graphs) in D3.0 with refinement. The original text contains some confusing description.

– Change the resolutions to some of the comments closed previously relating to Annex V.1. in D3.0.

• Definitions:– 3.110 portal: The logical point at which the integration service is provided.

– 3.72 integration service: The service that enables delivery of medium access control (MAC) service data units (MSDUs) between the distribution system (DS) and a non-IEEE-802.11 local area network (LAN) (via a portal).

– 3.40 distribution system (DS): A system used to interconnect a set of basic service sets (BSSs) and integrated local area networks (LANs) to create an extended service set (ESS).
