• Do you have ugly old kitchen cabinets? But don’t want to spendthousands of dollars to replace them? Freshen them up with a coat of paint andsome new hardware!
• We love painting kitchen cabinets! Because the final result is alwaysdramatic, and improves the look of a room much more than painting the walls andtrim ever could.
• Even the worst looking cabinets have a chance at a new life and it’snot as difficult, expensive or time intensive as many peoplethink.
• Painting cabinets is much easier to do than refinishing them. Properlyrefinishing wooden cabinets is a very time intensive and strenuous task. Mainlybecause the previous finish coats have to be stripped off before a new finishcan be applied
• When painting your cabinets, it is not necessary to remove theprevious finish. All you need to do is give them a good wash, followed bysanding with a fine grit sandpaper.
• Using a good quality primer is the important thing to remember, becausemany cabinets will have been painted or finished with an oil product. Latexpaint does not stick to oil. So we recommend using a good quality bondingprimer.
• Applying a coat of primer will ensure that your finish coat of paintwill adhere and not scratch or rub off. It will also give the top coat asmoother appearance.
• We recommend using a high quality self leveling trim paint. Ourfavourite is Sherwin Williams – Pro Classic. It self levels beautifully givingan almost perfectly smooth finish even when brushed on. 2coats are almost always sufficient to achieve perfect coverage.
