Sit uated in a small valley, it is here where you will visit the humble chapel which lies on the site of the lit tle house where The Virgin Mary is believed to have spent her last days. Despite the many controversies, the Christian World still favors this belief and the site has been officially sanctioned by the Vatican for pilgrimage. Continue on to Ancientcphesus and ac comi:>anied by your guide, walk through the Magne sian Gate which is the entrance to the ancient city of Ephesus. See the most magnificent excavations in the world. St. Paul's descriptive Letter to the Ephesians (5:21-33) describes the sacred bond between Christ and the Church in a beautiful comparison to that of the bond shared by a husband and his wife. During his three years of residency in EphesushPaul meets 12 believers. He baptized them in God's oly name and they received the holy spirit. Next, we walk back to the motor coach along the Arcadian Way, where Mark An thony and Cleopatra once rode in procession. From there, we sail to Patmos.

JOHN MONASTERY AND THE GROTTO IN PATMOS: Depart from the 12ort of Scala and enjoy a short drive to the village of Chara, where the monastery of St. John is built within the walls of a strong fortification. As you walk uphill towards the entrance of the monastery marvel at this magnificent structure, which was built 900 years ago . View the courtyard, the monk's dining room and the old bakery before you visit the main church noted for its outstanding frescoes and interior decoration. Next, visit the small museum where priceless ecclesi astical treasures, books, manuscripts, mosaics, icons, splendid medieval textiles, vestments and jewelry are housed. Return to your motor coach and continue to the nearby Grotto of the Apocalypse and the Monas tery of the Apocalypse above it. Walk down the steps to the Grotto of the Apocalypse. Here you wil I see the niches in the wall that mark the pillow and ledge used as a desk by the author of the Book of the Revela tion and the crack in the rock made by the voice of God honoring the Holy Trinity. Afterwards, drive back to the port or Scala and enjoy some free time in this quaint and picturesque town. We board the ship and set sail for Rhodes.

VIEW OF llNDOS

Day 5: Wednesday 6/20, CRUISE: RHODES & UN DOS SHORE EXCURSION - RHODES & UNDOS: Drive along the picturesque south-eastern coastline, scat tered with white-washed villages, to Lindos one of the most important of the three great cities of ancient times. See how this entire city is guarded by medie val walls which were constructed 5y the knights of St. John in the 13th century. Within stands the ancient Acropolis of Lindos, on the brink of a precipice 400 feet above the sea. From the Acropolis, marvel at the breathtaking views covering the great expanse of the Aegean Sea and St. Paul's bay, where the apos tle cast anchor during his historic voyage to Ephesus. Proceed on foot uphill, to the great staircase leading from the Hellenistic Portico to the Acropolis and Tem ple of Athena. Should you wish to make your way up by mule, a fee must be raid to the local muleteer. After your guided tour o the Acropolis enjoy some free time on your own in Lindos village before meet ing up with your motor coach. Refurn to Rhodes, where Acts 21:1 says St. Paul visited. Enjoy a pan oramic drive through the new part of the city before continuing to Mount Smith where you will view the ruins of ancient Rhodes, the Temple of Apollo and Di aqoras Stadium. Afterwards your coach will drop you off at Porte d'Amboise for a walking tour through the medieval city of Rhodes. Follow your guide through the northern part where once lived the knights and their attendants. View the Palace of the Knights and continue your walk down Chevaliers Road in order to meet up with your motor coach at the marine gate and return back to the ship.

Day 6: Thursday 6/21, CRUISE: CRETE-HERAKUON / SANTORINI

SHORE EXCURSION - KNOSSOS PALACE & MU SEUM IN HERAKUON: Crete is the largest and the most rugged of the Greek islands. En route from Jeru salem to Rome, St. Paul was forced to anchor here for a few weeks because of a hurricane. During his stay, he preached to the natives. Crete is also fhe home of the great Minoan Civilization and the mythological home of Zeus. After a short drive through fhe town of Heraklion the tour will arrive at Knossos excavations. Here, Sir Arthur Evan's archaeological discoveries re vealed a civilization dating back fo 4000 BC, when a great empire flourished on the island of Crete. Based on the wealth of artifacts that were found, Evans the orized that this was the site of the ancient Minoan Kingdom. These findings will be viewed in detail, as your guide will lead you on a journey of discovery to learn of the sophisticated culture fhat flourished thousands of years ago on this island. The tour will continue to the Museum of Heraklion which houses the treasures from the findings of Knossos, Phaestos, Zakros and others less known cities.

SHORE EXCURSION - SANTORINI: Explore the . •. island on your

own. It was here where Paul received an un heeded warn in_g about his efforts to con tinue spreading

n his Christian , ' beliefs. The is ,,~~~.-"""-v,;J land of Santorini

• • :. is perhaps the • most breath-

taking of all Greek islands. The white-washed houses, the narrow streets, the open-air cafes and boutiques of sparkling white of Fira village cling to steep cliffs, accesible by foot, cable-car or mule. From this extraor dinary natural promontory, Santorini will offer you the greatest view on the largest active caldera of the world, where, according to the legend, the lost continent of Atlantis has been swallowed up. In the south there is Akrotiri where you can find recent Minoan excavations. We board the ship and set sail for our return to the Piraeus Port.

Day 7: Friday 6/22 CRUISE ENDS/ PIRAEUS PORT/ ATHENS

Early this morning our ship docks at the port of Pi raeus. After we disembark, we tour Athens, be ginning with a visit fo the Acropolis. The Greek word "acropolis" is used

. in a broad sense to designate the forti

fied height of a city, On the Acropolis of Athens is the famous Parthenon (the main temple of Athena). We con tinue down to explore the Ancient Agora. Next we visit Mars Hill the site where St. Paul expounded the subject of monotheism before the pagan Greeks (this address is recorded in Acts 17:22-31). We also visit Hadrian's Arch

and the Modem Olympiad Stadium (if open) before re turning to our hoteffor dinner and overnight. [D]

Continue around the mighty city walls, which once protected Constantino ple from the many invasions and attacks it suffered over the centuries. In the Old City, the first visit will be to the Byzantine Hippodrome, which was once one of the larg est chariot race arenas rn the Byzantine Empire. Then, we visit the Sultanahmet Mosque, where large groups of pilgrims start their pilgrimage to Mecca. It is decorated with 21,000 blue Iznik files from where it gets its name, the "Blue Mosque". Walk to the world famous monument of Hagia Sophia, the Byzantine Church of Divine Wisdom, where you can see the superb mosaics and the marble decorations.
