Postlude: Postlude on ‘Praise Ye the Lord’, Jan Bender

“Have courage my soul, and let us journey on, though the night is dark and I am far from home. Thanks be to God the morning light appears.” Jesus called the disciples, to get in the boat to cross over to the other side of the sea. The power of this song is that it is sung from the middle of the storm, before we see the morning light. It is a song of hope in the present moment that comes with courage to journey and deep faith in change, faith that “tho the night is dark it won’t last very long”.

The storm today is fear, fatalism, and apathy; it is the soul twisting hatred of others who look and think different from ourselves. No storm lasts forever, not slavery, war, famine, fanatics, even racism, evil, and death. Though we are still far from the distant shore we have Jesus, and the promise that he calls us to live into, we have oneanother, so we can have courage to get in the boat, journey and sing with those on the margins, those different from ourselves in some ways—except our need for love and acceptance.

Grief Recovery Support Group: Today, 12:15pm, S-105.BelPres Confidential Helpline: Help for anyone impacted by pornography or sexual addiction. Call 425-454-3084 x3209.

I lift up my eyes to the hills— from where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2

Lord Jesus, you know all that we need. Forgive our lack of compassion for those who are hurting. Be with those who need your healing touch, including Alexander Chaffey, Colleen Merriman, Bill Aiken, Walter Eck, Gary Stein, David Belvin, Glen Torrey, and Matt Bencke. For those who grieve, we ask your comfort be with them. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Heavenly Father, we ask for your support and care over the areas hit by Hurricane Harvey and Irma. Please protect all who are in the path of the storm and heal the losses and those hurt.

Thank you Father for being our eternal source of hope. Help us to see your light in these trying times. In His name, Amen.

Mission Call Out: Come bless the new home of Alexis Ruhumuriza, pastor of New Hope Revival, the multi-ethnic worship community at BelPres. Join the open house celebration with African food and fellowship!
