In Step 1 you identified hazard areas and evacuation routes. Grab your “grab and go” kit and immediately head to a safe area. Do not wait for an official warning • Do not wait to collect supplies or belongings. • use posted ts unami hazard zone signs and tsunami evacuation maps to determine what areas are risky and what areas are safe. • go oN FooT. R oads and bridges may be damaged. Avoid downed power lines. • if evacuat ion is impossible, go to the third or higher floor of a sturdy building or climb a tree. This should only be used as a last resort. IF yoU arE IN a SaFE arEa Check for injuries • Do not move injured persons unless they are in danger of further injuries. • use yo ur first aid skills to stop bleeding. • Cover injured persons with a blanket to keep them warm. Check for damage • if poss ible, use your fire extinguisher to put out small fires. • Turn off the main gas valve iF you smell gas or suspect a leak. only the gas c ompany can turn if back on. • Wear gloves to protect yourself from broken glass • Stay away from damaged chimneys or brick walls. Aftershocks may bring them tumbling down. eVacuaTe if neceSSary— check for inJurieS and damage
