IMPART

To impart the distinctive taste of Jesus to our generation.

The Mission Statement of C3 Townsville paints a powerful picture of our culture (our mindset and how

we appropriate our faith on a daily basis). 1. Introduction

Genesis 50:21 (NKJV) Now therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

Amplified Bible (AMP)

Now therefore, do not be afraid. I will provide for and support you and your little ones. And he comforted them [imparting cheer, hope, strength] and spoke to their hearts [kindly].

o Definition of …tr.v. im·part·ed, im·part·ing, im·parts - 1. To grant a share of; bestow: impart a subtle

flavor; impart some advice. 2. To make known; disclose: persuaded to impart the secret. 3. To pass on;

transmit: imparts forward motion.

God wants to impart (“make known”) Himself to us so that we can more effectively impart Him to others.

This includes imparting His character, His word, His Son. It involves intimate relationship.

Read 2 Corinthians 2:14 & Psalm 34:8.

Discuss these verses in the context of “impart” in our Mission Statement.

2. Imparting faith into our generation

1 Samuel 17:40 (NKJV)

Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd‟s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.

“cheer, hope, strength” are like invisible gifts that permeate

from our lives to others. They are evident in our attitudes, our

conducts, our behaviour, our example.

Five stones were chosen, but only one stone was used. In preaching the Culture of C3 Townsville Ps

Jorge suggested that all stones had one united purpose. However, each stone may have had a different

name:

o Purpose = to defeat the giant and advance the purposes of God.

o Names:

1. Faith – this was the only stone used (and required) to defeat the giant. This stone

would have been sitting on top of the other stones as David reached into his

“shepards‟ bag”.

2. Life –

3. Hope –

4. Love –

5. Vision -

Discuss the above suggested purpose and names.

Often, people in the world associate FAITH with religion. This causes them to switch off or build a wall

of resistance. Trying to impart FAITH directly may not be the most effective way to make the desired

impact.

Ephesians 2:8 (NIV) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

However, faith is the conduit that allows the free gift of salvation to flow. Without faith the gift is

inactive, like a battery toy without batteries.

So often our challenge is to facilitate (or impart) faith without building walls.

People in our western are open to receive an impartation (“a subtle flavour”) of LIFE, HOPE, LOVE and

VISION. These are all things that God wants to impart into their lives anyway. And in doing so, like in

David‟s sheppard bag, they elevate FAITH to the top and build a platform for FAITH to be activated.

3. Faith Vs Fear

Read 1 Samuel 17:1-11 (break it up into 1-4, 5-9, and 10-11).

God wants to impart faith, but the world will try to impart fear. Discuss the difference.

It‟s not uncommon for us (even as Christians) to come across personal “giant-like and fear-imparting”

situations in our world – in marriage, relationships, lifestyles, finances, health.

Can you think of some examples?

A small portion of faith is enough to destroy any giant in your world.

Matthew 17:20b (NIV), Jesus said:

"... I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

We often approach God from a position of need. But the Bible clearly teaches that it‟s FAITH that moves

mountains and kills giants. It is FAITH that moves heaven, not needs.

How can you put this into practise in your life?

Hebrews 11:6 (NIV) And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Although not used, these stones played a major role in the

final outcome as they upheld, lifted and created a platform

for the 1st stone (Faith) to sit on the top.

Page 3: DNA Culture (Impart)

Page 3

People can often struggle to activate FAITH in their world (to find it inside the “Sheppard‟s bag”)

because they have given it no platform to sit on. The other four stones are missing.

David had no such trouble at the time he met with Goliath because:

1. He was full of LIFE – excited about life.

2. He was full of HOPE – always believing for the best.

3. He knew what LOVE was – connecting it with God and obedience to God.

4. He was full of VISION – smiling at his future.

These are the stones that elevate FAITH to the top where it can be used effectively to kill any giant in our

world.

4. Four “faith-elevating” & “giant-killing” characteristics shown in David’s life

1. Full of VISION. (Read 1 Samuel 17:28-30)

When you have a vision for life (marriage, business, ministry, etc) you focus on a cause and

you are not easily distracted by petty issues and circumstances.

Discuss the practical applications (or examples) in life.

2. Full of HOPE. (Read 1 Samuel 17:31-37)

When you are full of hope you tend to have a “can-do” attitude without excuses and reasons

why not.

Discuss the practical applications (or examples) in life.

3. Full of LIFE. (Read 1 Samuel 17:38-40)

When you are excited about life you don‟t waste time trying to be, do or prove something.

Your identity is not easily shaken and you are happy to live in your own skin and to make

maximum use what‟s in your hand.

Discuss the practical application (or examples) in life.

4. Full of LOVE. (Read 1 Samuel 17:41-47)

Recognising that real love is grounded on obedience and trust in what God says over and

above adversities and circumstances; that “love never fails”; and that God is for you, not

against you.

Discuss the practical application (or examples) in life.

5. What do we value at C3 Church?

1. Tithing and giving - living with a generous spirit

2 Corinthians 9:6 – 8 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always

having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

2. Connect groups

As the Church grows bigger we must grow smaller

Acts 2:46

Page 4: DNA Culture (Impart)

Page 4

So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart

3. Prompt to attend prayer meeting and mid week meetings

Acts 2:1 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place

4. Baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit

Acts 2:38 – 41 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation. “Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.

5. Inviting people to church

Use invitational cards (if available) and other means, like “Come to church this Sunday”.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.

6. Commitment to character growth.

Proverbs 24:10 if you faint in the day of adversity your strength is small Psalm 55:19 Because they do not change, therefore they do not fear God. Matthew 15:18-20 (NKJV) 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not

defile a man.”

1 Corinthians 6:12 (NLT)

[ Avoiding Sexual Sin ] You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. And even though “I am allowed to do anything,” I must not become a slave to anything.

7. Being “F.A.T.” Christians: Faithful, Accountable and Teachable

Hebrews 12:5 – 8 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: “ My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD, Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him; For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.” If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. You are not a son until you have been disciplined.

8. Submission to authority

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

Submission means to be „sub‟ – UNDER a „Mission‟.

The Bible makes it clear that we are to submit to authority.

When you are under authority you receive authority.

Luke 7:8 For I also am a man placed under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to one, „Go,‟ and he goes; and to another, „Come,‟ and he comes; and to my servant, „Do this,‟ and he does it.” Hebrews 13:17 Remember those who rule over you, who have spoken the word of God to you, whose faith follow, considering the outcome of their conduct.

Cults begin when there is no covering authority to keep leaders accountable.

Submission to authority is not a sign of weakness but one of strength and carries with

it great protection.

9. A “green” spirit.

Green = fresh, growing and teachable

Ripe = almost rotten, past the expiry date, beginning to smell bad

10. Taking responsibility

To keep the fire burning is my responsibility!

Church is a priority and no longer an option.

Church is a participation sport not an observation game. (In fact it‟s a full contact

sport wear a helmet!) be vocal, cheer, engage your heart and soul.

Feeding my soul is my priority.

I tithe even when I am not in church.

“One of the primary objectives of serving in the house is to create an atmosphere where

people can connect and be touched by God.” - Ps Jorge El-Khouri

The key to doing something great for God is just to start doing something!

There is nothing that makes a difference for eternity like the church!

Congratulation! You have completed DNA Culture and you are now ready to start DNA Leadership.
