DMSC SHORT SHOTS ● The next meeting is March 22. The speaker will be Waterways Conservation Officer Sean Sauserman to talk about restoration of SW PA waterways, Mar-cellus Shale drilling issues and the 2012 trout stocking program. Food will include sloppy joes , pasta salad, and dessert. ● It’s going down to the wire! With two matches left, the DMSC entry in the Pitts-burgh and Suburban Rifle League is tied with Frazier-Simplex for first with a 14-2 record. DMSC is on a seven match win-ning streak, highlighted by a 1483-1481 win against arch-rival Frazier, despite Frazier shying away from a shoulder-to-shoulder confrontation and, instead, us-ing two shoot-ahead and two bank scores as part of its top five. Mike says it all comes down to the basic question of what can I do to better protect myself, my family, friends or employees from becoming victimized. He is spread-ing the answer to this question by con-necting with social organizations, govern-mental units, and police departments in the area to set up this NRA seminar to meet the needs of local citizens. If there is enough interest shown by our member-ship, DMSC could host the full NRA semi-nar at a reduced rate for club members and their families, friends, and neighbors. Mike closed with this thought--remember, you can choose to refuse to be a victim. Contact Mike at the points shown below to express you interest.

to bring, depending on the weather fore-cast. ● It’s unfortunate. The Allegheny County Sportsmen’s League Sportsman of the Year banquet was cancelled because the minimum attendance requirement wasn’t met. Well, we still congratulate our awardee -- Gary Scherer.

● We had over a dozen members attend the Washington county Friends of NRA banquet at the Meadowlands. The story and pictures are in the web edition of the newsletter. ● Get ready for the spring Self Defense Rifle and Handgun Matches on May 12. The specifics as to general safety rules and the respective courses of fire on the last four pages of the newsletter. ● Check you email for an important mes-sage from the Directors. We need a pro-gram manager for the 5-Stand event and additional administrative assistance with the monthly Outdoor Silhouette program. The specifics are very well explained in the March 11 email.

Even after being told during their safety talk about the correct placement of targets on the various ranges, some shooters chose to fasten targets to the 25 yard rail-road tie wall on the upper pistol range. Then they fired and left the premises. A range officer found these remains. Had the shooters been present they would now be looking for another club to join because their membership at DMSC would have been terminated. Respect the facilities and obey the range rules!

CIVILIAN MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM MATCH FEBRUARY 19, 2012

Warmer temperatures with a steady breeze still gave the symptoms of winter, however this could not keep the twenty shooters from their assigned task of another fun shooting day. Welcome to newcomers: Mark Comer, Victoria Comer, Ed Budinsky, and Tyler Filloy – you all shot quite well, seemed to really enjoy it, and we hope that you will visit us again. Top spot (as usual) went to Allan Jaworski sporting a 482-8x; Ted Hildabrand also showing a very respectable 472-13x; Pete Cassini earned top honors in the M1 category with a 448-4x. Nice shooting! The next match is scheduled for March 18th. Come One – Come All! The shooting sports always will provide a great experience.

Mike Haritan answers questions from the crowd after his overview presentation of

Refuse to Be a Victim.

● From the March meeting of the Wash-ington County Sportsmen’s and Conser-vation League we learn the following: √ The preseason trout stocking has been completed on a number of streams in the county. As of March 1st, all approved trout streams in the county, with the ex-ception of Canonsburg Lake, are closed to fishing until the opening day of trout season, April 14. √ Two male coyotes were taken during the Canonsburg Club’s Coyote hunt on February 18 and 19. √ Keystone Coon Hunters will hold a meat shoot on March 25, beginning at noon. ● Here’s a helpful hint picked up from the 2011 Annual Report of the National Shooting Spots Foundation (NSSF), of which we are a member. The foundation has a You Tube channel that is loaded

with shooting tips in all disciplines. Cur-rently, the channel has about 165 videos covering topics from the basic--how to carry a shotgun--to the advanced--how to calculate MOA at long distances. How popular is the site.? By the end of 2011, more than 2,000,000 viewers had visited the site. Check it out for yourself at

Youtube.com/TheNSSF.

WASHINGTON FRIENDS OF NRA HOLDS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL FUNDRAISER

Three hundred and twenty people, thirty feet of raffle tickets, good food, and an unexpected visit by Cam Edwards of NRA News made for an en-joyable evening for the more than a dozen DMSC members who attended the 21st Friends of NRA banquet held by the Washington County Chapter. Once again the banquet raised tens of thou-sands of dollars for the support of local youth shooting programs via grants which have di-rectly benefitted DMSC year after year. Our Club underwrote one of the raffle prizes--a Remington 870 shotgun that was won by Bill Holmes.

NOTES FROM THE FIELD NOTES FROM THE FIELD NOTES FROM THE FIELD NOTES FROM THE FIELD FISH AND BOAT COMMISSION The first day of trout season is March 31 for 18 counties in southeast PA. The rest of the state opens on April 14. In that re-spect, approved trout waters were closed to all fishing (including taking of minnows) from March 1 to 8 a.m. on the opening day of the trout season. Anglers can easily search the trout stock-ing schedules for locations and dates of interest. To make the list, simply go to www.fishandboat.com, click on the link for 2012 Trout Stocking Schedules, select a county and start and end date from the calendars at the top of the page, then press go. The search results will provide you with each body of water within a county that is scheduled for stocking, the section of water, the date, the species of trout, the meeting place and time, the hatchery stocking the section, the regula-tions that apply, and the latitude/longitude number. (PFBC) Executive Director John Arway presented the agency’s 2011 Annual Re-port to the House Game and Fisheries Committee and reiterated that one of the agency’s top goals in its five-year strategic plan is to identify alternative funding sources in order to sustain the agency. The PFBC 2011 Annual Report can be found on the agency’s website at: http://f i s h a n d b o a t . c o m / p r o m o /annualreport/2011ann_rpt.pdf. GAME COMMISSION You can purchase a second spring gobbler tag until midnight on April 20. If you buy the second spring gobbler tag through the PGC website, should expect to wait seven to 10 days for shipping

PGC Executive Director Carl Roe pre-sented the agency’s annual report to the General Assembly, and delivered testi-mony before the House Game and Fisher-ies Committee. The testimony covered such diverse topics as law enforcement accountability habitat and land manage-ment, fee management, various game pro-grams, and personnel pay and retention.

Roe ended his testimony by stating the Game Commission had a very positive year but there are some elements in the strategic plan that could not be accom-plished due to resource constraints. “We know what we need to do to improve con-ditions for wildlife and in turn provide great opportunities for our hunters and trappers. We want to do more. This is not a matter of will but a matter of resources available to get the job done.” To view a copy of the agency’s annual re-port, please visit the Game Commission’s website (www.pgc.state.pa.us), put your cursor on “Resources” in the menu bar un-der the banner on the homepage, then se-lect “Reports/Minutes” in the drop-down menu, then click on “Annual Legislative Reports” and choose “2011” in the listing.

Following up on his commitment to make the workings of the Board of Game Com-missioners more open and transparent, Board of Game Commissioners President Ralph A. Martone announced the Board will be holding public working group meet-ings on Monday, March 26. The meetings, which will begin at 8 a.m., will be held in the auditorium of the PGC’s Harrisburg headquarters. Since most of the public can’t physically get there, the working group meeting will be webcast through the agency’s website (www.pgc.state.pa.us) beginning at 8 a.m.

No hot reloads. • Reloads must be conducted from the body (pocket or magazine pouch). • Magazine retention is optional. • Each competitor will be assigned a target number, all shots will be delivered to that target for the

entire match. • Each competitor will be assigned a bay firing position. All firing will be fired from your firing position
