Connecting The DI-524 Wireless RouterTo Your Network

A. Receptor forPower Adapter.

Reset ButtonPressing this button restores the Router to its originalfactory default settings.

A. First, connect the power adapter to the receptor at the back panel of theDI-524 and then plug the other end of the power adapter to a wall outlet or powerstrip. The Power LED lights up indicating proper operation.

B. 1. Power off your Cable or DSL modem; devices that do not have a on/off switch andwill require you to unplug the power adapter. Now, the DI-524 should be powered onand the Cable / DSL modem should be turned off.Cable / DSL modem (Power Off) – DI-524 (Power On)

2. Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack located on the Cable / DSLmodem. After the Ethernet cable is securely connected, power on the Cable / DSLmodem by turning on the unit or plugging in the power adapter.Cable / DSL modem (Power On) – DI-524 (Power On)

3. Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable to the WAN PORT on the back panel ofthe DI-524. The WAN LED light will illuminate to indicate proper connection. If theWAN LED is not illuminated, please go back to step B1 and repeat the steps.

C. Insert an Ethernet cable to LAN Port 1 on the back panel of the DI-524 and anavailable Ethernet port on the network adapter in the computer you are using toconfigure the DI-524. The LED light for LAN Port 1 illuminates to indicate properconnection. (Note: The LAN Ports on the DI-524 are Auto-MDI/MDI-X. Meaning youcan use a straight-through or crossover-Ethernet cable in the LAN Ports.)

D. Computers equipped with 802.11g wireless adapters will be able to connect to theDI-524. The DWL-630 AirPlus G Wireless Cardbus Adapter and the DWL-510AirPlus G Wireless PCI Adapter will be able to connect out of the box with therouter using their default wireless settings.

B. WAN PORTThis is for the connectionof an Ethernet cable to theCable or DSL modem.

D. AntennaUsed towirelesslyconnect to802.11g or802.11badapters.

C. LAN PORTSThese are theconnections for Ethernetcables to Ethernetenabled computers.

Restart Your Computer

Connecting Additional ComputersTo The DI-524

LOCAL NETWORK LEDs – asolid light on the port indicatesa connection to an Ethernetenabled computer on ports 1-4.This LED blinks during datatransmission.Power LED – a solid

light indicates a properconnection to the powersupply.

Status LED – a blinking lightindicates that the DI-524 isfunctioning properly.

When you have completed the steps in this Quick Installation Guide, your connectednetwork should look similar to this:

Using additional Ethernet (CAT5 UTP) cables, connect your Ethernet-equippedcomputers to the remaining Ethernet LAN ports on the back panel of the DI-524.

WAN LED – a solid lightindicates connection onthe WAN port. This LEDblinks during datatransmission.

WLAN LED – a solid lightindicates that the wirelesssegment is ready. This LEDblinks during wireless datatransmission.

Once you have logged in, theHome screen will appear.

Click Run Wizard

Using The Setup Wizard

The logon pop-up screen will appear.

Open your Web browser andtype “http://192.168.0.1” into theURL address box. Then press theEnter or Return key.

Type “admin” for the username andleave the password field blank.

Click OK

Set up your new password.You have the option to establisha password.

Click Next

Choose your time zone fromthe drop down list.

If you selected Dynamic IPAddress, this screen will appear:(Used mainly for Cable Internetservice.)

Click the “Clone MAC Address”button to automatically copy theMAC address of the networkadapter in your computer. You canalso manually type in the MACaddress.

Select your Internet Connection.You will be prompted to select thetype of Internet connection for yourrouter.

If you are unsure of which settingto select, please contact yourInternet Service Provider.

Click Next

Click Next

This setup should be done on the computer that is registered on the ISP’s network.

Please continue to Wireless Setup.

A this point, the setup wizard will tryto auto-detect your Internet connec-tion type. If you have a Dynamic orPPPoE connection, you will bebrought to the corresponding page.

Otherwise, you will see the following screen:

If your ISP requires a Static IPAddress, and this option isselected, then this screen willappear:

Enter the IP address informationoriginally provided to you by yourISP. You will need to complete allthe required fields.

Click Next

Please continue to Wireless Setup.

If your ISP uses PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet), andthis option is selected, then thisscreen will appear: (Used mainly forDSL Internet service.)

Please be sure to remove anyexisting PPPoE client softwareinstalled on your computers.

Enter in the username and pass-word provided to you by your ISP.

Click Next

Please continue to Wireless Setup.

If you wish to use encryption foryour 802.11g network, the DI-524 iscapable of two levels of wirelessencryption - 64-bit and 128-bit. Bydefault the encryption is dis-abled. You can change the encryp-tion settings for more securewireless communication.

The default wireless settings foryour 802.11g wireless network are:SSID = defaultChannel = 6You can change these settings tomatch an existing wireless network.

Test Internet ConnectionYou will be returned to the Home tab.

For additional settings or information,refer to the Advanced, Tools, orStatus tabs on the web-managementinterface; or to the Manual located onthe CD.

Then relaunch your Web browser(i.e., Internet Explorer or NetscapeNavigator), to link to your favorite Website to test your Internet connection.

To connect to the network, make sure thenetwork adapter in your computer is configuredproperly. Here’s how to configure the networkadapter to obtain an IP address automaticallyfor the DI-524 Wireless Broadband Router.

APPENDIX

Restart your computer (if necessary)

Click OK

Select Obtain an IP addressautomatically

Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

Click Properties

For Microsoft Windows XP: Go to Start >right click on My Network Places >select Properties > Right click on theNetwork Connection associated with theEthernet adapter and select Properties(i.e., D-Link DFE-530TX+).

For Apple Macintosh OS X:

The IP address information,the Subnet Mask, the Router’sIP address and the Ethernetadapter address will appear.

Select Built-in Ethernetin the Show pull downmenu

Click onNetwork

Click on Apply Now

Select Using DHCP inthe Configure pull downmenu

Go to the Apple Menu Click on SystemPreferences and Select Network.
