PENTECOST SUNDAY Email: sanjuanshrine@att.net Domingo de Pentecostés VEN, ESPÍRITU SANTO Cuando escuchamos decir “Ven, Espíritu Santo”, pensamos en el relato de hoy de los Hechos. Pero la verdad es que la escena de hoy es sólo un momento en la larga presencia del Espíritu en la historia de la salvación. El espíritu de Dios (ruach) está presente en el albor de la creación, soplando sobre las aguas caóticas cuando Dios manda que exista la luz. Ese mismo espíritu de Dios llenó a los profetas de Israel. “El espíritu del Señor está sobre mí” y llena a sus testigos cuando guiaban a Israel en su búsqueda de ser fieles al Dios de amor y misericordia de su alianza. Escuchamos que el Espíritu cubrió con su sombra al vientre de María de modo que el mismo Verbo de Dios se encarnara como ser humano. Y Jesús comienza su ministerio en el Evangelio de san Lucas diciendo que el Espíritu está sobre él. En la cruz, según Juan, él entrega su espíritu. Hoy san Pablo nos dice que este Espíritu Santo proviene de Dios, quien resucitó a Cristo de entre los muertos. También oímos en el relato de san Juan que el Espíritu es el mismo soplo de Cristo resucitado sobre sus discípulos. El mismo Espíritu de todos estos relatos bíblicos estuvo allí en nuestro bautismo y continúa viviendo en nosotros. Somos templos de ese Espíritu, testigos de la gracia del Espíritu. Y es en este Espíritu Santo que continuamos viviendo a la luz del Evangelio y procurando alcanzar nuestra vida de eterna gloria en Cristo. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. COME, HOLY SPIRIT When we hear “Come, Holy Spirit” we think of today’s story from Acts. But the truth is that today’s scene is but one moment from the Spirit’s long presence in salvation. The spirit of God (ruach) is present at the dawn of creation, blowing over the chaotic waters as God commands light to be. That same spirit of God filled the prophets of Israel. “The spirit of the Lord came upon me” fills their witness, as they guided Israel in their quest to be faithful to the loving, merciful God of their covenant. We hear that the Spirit overshadowed Mary’s womb so that the very Word of God would take on our human flesh. And Jesus begins his ministry in Luke’s Gospel by saying the Spirit is upon him. On the cross, according to John, he gives up his spirit. Today Paul tells us that this Holy Spirit is from God, who raised Christ from the dead. We also hear John’s account of the Spirit as the very breath of the risen Christ on his disciples. That same Spirit of all these biblical accounts was there at our baptism and continues to live in us. We are temples of that Spirit, witnesses to the Spirit’s grace. And it is in the Holy Spirit that we will continue to live in the gospel’s light, and to pursue our life of eternal glory in Christ. © Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co.
