Dynamic Learning v2 Tutorial 10: Manage Users
Entering the Manage DL area
To get access to Manage DL,
you’ll need to log in as a
teacher or teacher admin,
then click the Manage icon at
the top right of the My
Dynamic Learning screen.
Please note that if your
institution is trialling
Dynamic Learning, and has
not yet identified a User
Manager, you will not be
able to access Manage DL or
create individualised logins.
Tutorial 9 will tell you more
about the User Manager
process.
The instructions page
Use this page to choose what
you want to do next.
Each tab’s icon changes to
orange when you mouse over
or select it.
Please note: The buttons for Assign
Test and Assign lesson are in
preparation at present.

Manage users
If there is a User Manager at
your institution, they and any
other Teacher Admin will be
able to create or import
student users on the Manage
users tab. If you are a teacher,
you’ll simply be able to view
details. So here, we’ll show the
process from the teacher
admin point of view.
Setting up individualised logins
for users can be done one-by-
one, using the Add student
button on the Manage
Students tab, and the Add
teacher button on the Manage
Teachers & Administrators tab.
Or it can be done – for
students only – using the
Import CSV button.
Once you’ve set up some other
teacher admin users, they too
will be able to create or import
and view user details.
Adding a new user
Student user details
To create a new user, click Add
student on the Manage
Students tab or Add teacher
on the Manage Teachers &
Administrators tab. Then fill in
the details on the form that
loads.
This will differ, depending on
whether the new user is a
student or teacher. Tooltips on
the fields will guide you as to
the information needed.
Messages will prompt you for
missing information when you
save, and your data will be
saved to your institution’s own
Dynamic Learning account,
updating the displayed list of
users.
Teacher can use this form to
give the student access to the
titles they need by ticking the
boxes on the righthand side.
Roll over each field to find a tooltip spelling out
what’s needed, for instance the format for usernames
and passwords. (Not available for iPad.)
The CSV option allows you to import using data from your
institution’s own information system, or export all your
Dynamic Learning data to CSV.
Two different tabs
allow you to add and
view students, and
add and view
teachers.

Teacher user details
Teachers automatically have
access to all titles.
Manage access
In Dynamic Learning v1,
sharing access with students
was handled in Manage DL.
Now we’ve brought the
process right up front, within
Courses/online packages.
Use the Share access button
on the Course dashboard to
grant access to specific titles to
any of the users that you’ve
now created or imported.
Whiteboard eTextbooks can’t
be shared with students,
however – they are for use in
institutions only.
Teachers have automatic
access to all titles on trial –
students have access only
when a Teacher Admin or the
User Manager has set this up.

When you click Share access,
you’ll see this. To get just the
students you want, you can
filter the student list by
reference to other titles, or
other student groups.
For convenience, you can also
choose to extend this access to
all titles in the online package
or course, using the tickbox
highlighted.
Importing a CSV
A quick way to populate your
DL database is to import a
CSV of student user details.
This can be done easily using
the output from your
institution’s own database.
Full instructions on how to
import a CSV can be found
by pressing the Help button
at the top of the screen, then
selecting ‘Instructions’ and
‘CSV import’.
Viewing the list of users
As your database grows, you can filter the list by looking only for students with access to a
certain title, or who are members of a certain group.
Use the dropdown filters
to narrow your view of the
user database

Filtering the view of your users – students
You can filter by sections of
the alphabet, and you can
use the column headings to
opt to sort the data
alphabetically by last name,
first name, username or
password. You can also
reverse the sort order using
the arrow on the selected
heading.
Filtering the view of your users – teachers
The usernames and
passwords of users at your
own level or above are
hidden, but those below
your level, including all
students, are visible.
The User Manager (U-M)
details can only be seen by
the User Manager.
Note: we are in the process of
overhauling security arrangements
at present, so these details will be
changing soon. We’ll keep you
posted.
Editing user details
Teacher admins can edit any
aspect of a student’s User
profile, including changing
their access to titles. Just
click in the checkboxes
beside each available title.
Another way to do this is to
use the Share button on the
title screen. See Manage
Access, above.
Use the alphabet
filters to select only
a part of the list to
view
Depending
on your login,
you’ll be able
to see
usernames
and
passwords
for some
users
Use the column
headers to sort the
data or reverse the
sort order.
