This area is also often referred to as the Testing Center. Study Unlimited, distance learning, and make-up tests are proctored here. If you are taking a test, please make sure to have your picture ID ready when you sign in. 2. New book shelf. When we receive new books, we place them on the new book shelf. Stop in occasionally to browse the recent arrivals. 3. Newspapers. The LRC subscribes to a number of local newspapers. We also have subscriptions to the Chicago Tribune, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal. At the beginning of the month we discard the previous months’ issues. Lift the shelves to see back issues. 4. Computers. All of the computers in the LRC have Office 2007 installed. You can also access the LRC’s electronic databases on the computers. Currently, no log in is required to use the computers. Please save your work to a USB drive or disc. You can print up to 4 pages for free. The cost after the first 4 pages is 10 cents a page. 5. Magazines. The LRC subscribes to a wide variety of magazines. Current issues may be read in the library. If you lift the shelves, you will find back issues that may be checked out for two weeks. 6. Books. The LRC tries to maintain a collection that supports the curriculum of Black Hawk College. Although we do not purchase textbooks for the library, we do have a number of other books on a wide variety of topics to assist you with your research needs. The LRC uses the Library of Congress classification system. 7. TV/VCR’s/DVD players. The LRC has an area where you can watch videos for your classes or for leisure. Headphones are provided. 8. DVD’s. The LRC has recently expanded to include a circulating DVD collection. We are in the process of purchasing Oscar winners and movies from the American Film Institute Top 100 Movies. There are also a number of documentaries and programs that have been featured on television, such as the Discovery Channel and the History Channel. DVD’s may be checked out for a 3-day period. 9. There is a book drop for returning materials.
