REPORT FROM ASSISTANT GOVERNOR
EDUCATION & TRAINING
Finish the race
A great New Year and a great 2011 for Division N !Time flies and we are now at the 9th month of
term 2010/2011.We had our TLI2 successfully done under the guidance of our Area N1 Governor
Nithianandan and his team on 9th January 2011 to ensure that we will start this 2011 with a bang!
As far as Educational Goal are concerned, we have 34 CCs , 10 ACs and 1 DTM for Division N!(As off 1st April 2011). These are a remarkable statistics as 34 speakers had successfully improvedtheir communication skills by undertaking the competent communicator manuals training. The
break down is as follows:
Kudos to Area N3 especially USM Students Toastmasters Club for their effort in helping 21 mem-
bers to achieve the Competent Communicator title! This is how we are Achieving Greatness To-
gether! Toastmasters journey is a wonderful experience in life, how far have you ever walked in
this path of conquest? Halfway through your CC? at the beginning of your AC manual? Standing
at the cross roads after completing your CC and do not know which path to choose?
If you are at the halfway mark, keep going! You still have another 3 months to complete your
quest to success! You have started the race, you have come so far, keep the faith and the courage
to finish the race!
If you are pondering on where to go or what to do, ask for help! Your leaders in the club are well
equipped with the knowledge and experience, consult by asking for their guidance. There will be
light at the end of the tunnel! All you need to do is to keep moving forward!
When you are attending your club meeting, give each other a pat at the back and tell yourselves
Good job! We have come so far, lets finish the race together!
What is the resolution that you have made since the first day you join this wonderful organization?
What are the goals that you have set for this term?
Lets Achieve Greatness Together and finish the race!

By Jack Chng,CC,CLTHE GO GREEN CLUB !
Bayan Baru Toastmasters Club held its regular meeting on 18 November, 2010 (Thursday). Our
club held a special event in conjunction with our clubs regular meeting.
It was a historical day for Bayan Baru Toastmasters Club as it was our first ever GO GREEN day.
Now we not only emphasize on Communication & leadership skills, but we are also going
GREEN to SAVE THE PLANET!!!!!
The purpose was to create awareness of recycling to preserve our precious environment.
The whole event showed to our guests, our leadership & communication style and substance. By
using our eloquence in speech making throughout the evening, we could save our mother earth
through being responsible club citizens and using our communication skills to spread the message,
and thus influence people around us. It was indeed a noble and honourable effort.
Members were excited and full of camaraderie to contribute their time, effort, resources to ensure
the success of the launch.
This event was open to all our members and member of public. We invited a special guest speaker
Mr. Don Theseira to share his knowledge on environment and recycling issues. He is an expert in
Household Recycling and has been featured in countless magazines and newspapers and
awardedEveryday Heroes by Readers Digest in 2002.
On a special note, this project was the idea of our distinguished member Dr. Janet Lim. Her contri-
bution of her precious time & resources are highly appreciated. We are so glad to have such a sup-portive & enthusiastic member.
On that day, members and guests received a special recycling bag each thanks to Dr. Janet.

THE SKY IS THE LIMIT
During one of our Exco meetings in October 2010, we realized that one of the biggest issue that we were fac-
ing was members retention. Although we managed to get a few new members but if they were not retained, it
would be back to square one. We would like to make our club moreAttractive, Desirable and Energetic. We
knew that the only way we could achieve this was by thinking out of the box.Instead of having just a fort-
nightly meeting, we decided to organise something massive, interesting and what we were totally inexperi-
enced in. Something that most clubs would avoid to organize,a Teambuilding .
It took us almost 3 months of preparation to get things done. The journey was never smooth. We faced sev-
eral obstacles such as a lack of interest from PTPL students due to examinations and also lack of cooperation
within the Organising Committee itself. We thought that this event would be a major disaster. Two weeks
before the teambuilding, the total participants barely reached 10. -Disappointed, Yes , Demotivated, No -
The situation was so alarming that an emergency meeting was called. We solved all the disputes once and for
all and from then on, we were working as a TEAM. Everyone including normal members were chipping in
an effort to make it the best activity ever organized. We promoted the teambuilding to our university
friends, college friends, family members & Toastmasters from other clubs through all sort of possible com-
munication methods including Facebook. Within a few days, our participants doubled. From then on, we
never looked back. We had a remarkable 41 participants for our teambuilding, an achievement that we haddare not dream off earlier.
The teambuilding day itself was enjoyable and fun.We were glad that participants enjoyed playing at the
same time learning to cooperate and working as a team in completing challenges. It was a fruitful event as
we not only able to enjoy the activities but also learned from one and another. We even got new members
through the teambuilding. We get more than what we asked for. It is always possible to do anything to im-
prove our club as long as we remained optimistic and being committed as the sky is the limit. Within a
T.E.A.M, Together Everyone Achieves More. Never give up until the last minute when there is a will, there
is a way. Without the support from fellow Toastmasters such as Katigeyan, Karen Teh and our Division N
Governor, Sutharat, we would not have overcome the obstacles. We are proud that even though we are new
& young, we can Achieve Greatness Together. If young and energetic PTPL Penang Toastmasters memberscan achieve their goal, so can you !

A Miracle Story
The miracle...Lying on the bed of ICU, Achievers Toastmasters Club was on the brick of
falling apart. However, under the dedication of Dr. Tan Teik Poh & his team,Achievers Toastmasters stands before you, stronger than before...
BY LOH E-JIAT,ACB
Last June 2010, Achievers Toastmasters Club had a
serious crisis, having only 6 active members attend-ing their meetings. Double roles, Triple roles were
what they did during their meetings. Committee
members positions had to be filled by members who
were very busy. There were calls to give up on it, but
the Achievers dedication, enthusiasm, passion to
Toastmasters was that drug that kept it alive until
now.
Meetings went on as usual, although a burden to the
members present. The president asked the members
by e-mail, sms and calls weeks and days before themeeting to bring friends, family or colleagues to at-
tend. The attendance increased and poof, it just
seemed like magic, the fate of Achievers Toastmas-
ters Club changed on 28 October 2010 when 9 out of
13 guests signed up to be members on the spot. Due
to an increment of 17 new members to the club in
the past 6 months, Achievers Toastmasters Club has
now closed its membership, to promote quality.
Im sure everyone is wondering the secret to this
miracle. Just 3 words - Cash Back Guarantee .
Achievers Toastmasters Club offer cash back guar-
antee for any member who feels that Toastmasters is
unable to provide them learning opportunities. Of
course, under a condition that they attend meetings
and do assignments.
However, those 3 words werent what Achievers
Toastmasters Club showed the guests, Achievers
showed them their passion towards Toastmasters
meetings. The room is always packed with members
who enjoy speaking, and listening to speeches. Pas-
sion is like virus, it spreads. If you have passion, it
will spread on to the guests or Toastmasters-to-be.
Achievers Toastmasters Club has shown that having
low membership does not mean the end. With dedi-
cation, enthusiasm and passion, miracles can happen. If Achievers can, why not you?
The success was not because of Achievers Toast-
masters Club alone. They would like to express their
appreciation to members of YMCA Toastmasters
Club, Area Governor Dr. Theva and wife Dr Asha
and other Toastmasters friends for their all out sup-
port attending our meetings and helping to play roles
to pull us through our critical stage.
Innovating InductionIt is normal for clubs to have an induction ceremony
for new members. However, Achievers Toastmas-
ters Club tries to add some twist by having Santa
Clause to induct the new members during a Christ-
mas Dinner meeting. This does add to the variety as
well.
