TRANSCRIPT
The James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation supports the nationally recognized SkillsUSA program. This hands-on program is designed to test the skills needed for a successful entry-level performance in given occupational fields. Safety practices and procedures are part of every contestant’s score.
Welding competitors receive contest drawings and welding procedure specifications. Through a series of stations, individual competitors are tested on various aspects of welding, including GMAW, SMAW, GTAW and oxy-acetylene cutting. A written exam is given to assess each individual’s practical knowledge of welding, including safety, measurement and blueprint reading.
Welding Fabrication contestants work in teams of three from each school to build a designed product from the material provided. Each team is required to be skilled in the following welding and cutting processes: SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW and Oxy Fuel. Students also must be proficient in using the common tools of a workshop.
