Official Newsletter of Key Club Division 12 November 2011
Hey Key Clubber! You are amazing!
Yes, that’s right! I hope that
put a smile on your face. If it
did tell the next person you
see (no matter who it is)
some encouraging words or
even just smile at them. A
smile can put a smile on
someone else’s face. Who
knows, maybe the next
person you see is having a
bad day and just needs
someone to talk to or some
uplifting words. Even when
you’re having a bad day, still
try to be that caring person
and help other people have
better days. They just may be
having a worse day then
you. You also may get the
same encouraging words in
return. Take a moment and
look at the quote down
below. I hope that will
encourage you to change a
life. We are Key Clubbers
and, if you forgot, our motto
is “Caring--our way of life”.
Show other’s how
much Key Club can change

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a
listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which
have the potential to turn a life around.” -Leo F. Buscalgia

School
Project Ideas! Assisting Shut-Ins
Do yard work or other small chores for
the elderly who are confined to their
homes. Offer to clip trees, pull weeds,
care for plants, rake leaves, and do
other tasks. This can brighten someone’s
day by letting them know you care.
Athletic Events
Work as announcers for athletic events,
work on the scoreboard, take tickets at
the gate, and generally help your
school’s athletic department to make
sports programs run more smoothly.
This includes acting as coaches and
referees of intramural teams, equipment
managers, and team managers.
Contact coaches to see how your club
can help. Similarly, work as minor officials
for inter-school games or meets.
Bingo
Once a month, go to a local nursing
home and help the residents play bingo.
Food Bank
Contact a food bank to make it aware
of your Key Club’s available assistance.
Providing service by stocking shelves,
delivering food, and soliciting donations
would be beneficial.
Canned Food Drive
A food drive begins with committee
members talking to homerooms and
sending notes home. The two-week
campaign could begin immediately
after Thanksgiving Day. Key Club
members collect cans in their
homerooms each morning and put
them in the hall. The collection crew
uses a library cart to pick up and deliver
the cans to the “collection” center. Tally
boards are updated each morning. At
the end of the campaign, the boxed
goods are loaded on a truck and taken
to the community collection center.
Therapeutic Riding
Offer to help disabled students ride
horseback.

School Of the Month
No one!
This past month was very hard to choose a school of the month.
There was not one school that really rose above the others or at
least improved a lot in their own club. I would like to shine some
spotlight of on some clubs.
Barbe- Y’all did a great job working hard on those links and
thank you for working so hard this year. I appreciate y’all

working many hours for the CITGO Picnic, and the amazing

The October PCM was held

together so my successor will
have some guidance to make
next year’s rally truly amazing.
We will have a interclub
committee this year to help
plan the rest of the year’s
interclubs. This committee will
consist of your treasurer,
secretary and 2 members from

Their Mission
The mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures,
and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through
research and treatment. The hospital was opened by Danny Thomas on February 4, 1962, and it
has changed live across the world. When St. Jude completed its $1 billion,
five-year expansion in 2005, it strengthened the hospital's efforts to find
cures for the catastrophic diseases of childhood. In the expansion,
St. Jude made the nation's only pediatric research center on-site facility
for production of highly specialized treatments and vaccines. St. Jude is a nonprofit hospital and treats
5,700 patients on average per year. Parents Magazine has named St. Jude Hospital the number one
pediatric care center in the country and St. Jude shares its findings with doctors from all around the world.

Key Facts
Directions 1. Preheat an oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees
C).
2. Place the peas and carrots, green beans, and
celery into a saucepan; cover with water, bring
to a boil, and simmer over medium-low heat
until the celery is tender, about 8 minutes. Drain
the vegetables in a colander set in the sink, and
set aside.
3. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium
heat, and cook the onion until translucent,
about 5 minutes. Stir in 2/3 cup of flour, salt,
black pepper, celery seed, onion powder, and
Italian seasoning; slowly whisk in the chicken
broth and milk until the mixture comes to a
simmer and thickens. Remove from heat; stir the
cooked vegetables and turkey meat into the
filling until well combined.
4. Fit 2 pie crusts into the bottom of 2 9-inch pie
dishes. Spoon half the filling into each pie crust,
then top each pie with another crust. Pinch and
roll the top and bottom crusts together at the
edge of each pie to seal, and cut several small
slits into the top of the pies with a sharp knife to
release steam.
5. Bake in the preheated oven until the crusts are
golden brown and the filling is bubbly, 30 to 35
minutes. If the crusts are browning too quickly,
cover the pies with aluminum foil after about 15
minutes. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Ingredients 2 cups frozen peas and carrots 2 cups frozen green beans
1 cup sliced celery 2/3 cup butter
2/3 cup chopped onion 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon celery seed 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning 1 3/4 cups chicken broth
1 1/3 cups milk 4 (9 inch) unbaked pie crusts
4 cups cubed cooked turkey meat - light and dark meat mixed

thanksgiving leftovers?
