WHAT TO EXPECT

FROM BULL SHARKS?

Despite what Jaws has done

to stereotype sharks, these

apex predators come in all

shapes and sizes.

Bulls might not be bus-size

behemoths — they normally

grow between 7 and 11 feet

long

Bull sharks have quite the

reputation for being short-

tempered

FACTS ABOUT

BULL SHARKS

Max Length: Up to 11 feet

Max Weight: Between 200-500

pounds

Life Span: 13-17 years

Status: Near threatened

FUN FACT:

Bull sharks are able to survive long

periods of time in fresh water thanks

to their kidneys, which adjust to suit

the salinity of the water they're in.

5 TIPS ON STAYING CALM IN

THE WATER

1. Accept That Though You're in Their Territory, You're Not on the Menu

2. Don’t Look At Their Mouths

3. Steady Your Breathing and Talk to Yourself

4. Keep Your Hands to Yourself

5. Act Natural. Losing your cool and thrashing around is the easiest way

(other than diving with an open wound) to join the ocean’s food chain.

BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR DIVE

WITH SHARKS, GATHER SOME INFO.

Any location with good

diving has one or more

dive shops. These local

professionals know the

sites and dangers better

than anyone.

SEARCH FOR A DIVE

BUDDY. Some important

questions to know are

"Does it storm

regularly?" or "How fast

do storms arise in this

location?"

CHECK THE WEATHER.

On your first dives it is

better to go with a dive

operator. They have dove

the area hundreds of

times and will know which

sites are best for

beginners.

LET YOUR DIVE OPREATOR

KNOW IF YOU ARE A

BEGINNER.

LISTEN CAREFULLY!

Before the dive, the dive master will (or should) tell you where you

are entering in relation to the site, where you will be going, how

long you will be under, what the max depth will be, what

signals you will use, what to do if you need to leave the dive

early, what sites you will see and how long a safety stop you will

do (it should be at least 3 minutes).
