Gospel Lesson John 7:37–39 37On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever be-lieves in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” 39Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been giv-en, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Communion Practices of this congregation . . . The Lord’s Supper is celebrated at St. John’s every Sunday in the con-fession and glad confidence that, as he says, our Lord Jesus gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but his very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our un-ion with him and with one another. Our Lord invites to his table those who trust his words, repent of all sin, and set aside any refusal to for-give and love as he forgives and loves us, that they may show forth his death until he comes. Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthi-ly do so to their great harm and because Holy Communion is a confes-sion of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet instructed, in doubt, or who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, are asked first to speak with the pas-tor or an elder. In addition to the members of this congregation, visi-tors from our sister LCMS congregations and other Lutheran denomi-nations with whom we enjoy altar fellowship are invited to join us at the Lord’s Table. 3. During the last two Sundays, many of our members have been away. Consequently, we have only received offerings of $1,949.00 for those two weeks, instead of the $5,000.00 to $6,000.00 that we would normally receive. As you can imagine, this situation hinders us in cov-ering the normal budgeted expenditures of the congregation. Mem-bers are asked to please make up their offerings when they have been away—particularly in these summer months when vacations are more common. We appreciate everyone’s generosity!

This Week’s Micro-epistle from Pastor

Dear Friends, Our South Wisconsin District is very notable in terms of its care for her members and pastors. For example, the leadership are very intentional about our celebrating the ordination anniversaries of our pastors. I was very honored to be acknowledged at the District’s Pastors’ Conference last month for my 15th anniversary of ordination and given a gift from the District. President Wille also wrote to our congregation’s Council encouraging them to plan some opportunity for us to celebrate this also within the congregation. Since I only have 15 years in and another 25 to 27 years to go, I asked that our celebration be simple and discreet. To that end, you are invited to join us for a potluck brunch next Sunday, June 11, following worship at 10:30 am. Members are asked to bring a brunch (breakfast or lunch) dish to share. We invite persons whose last names begin with the letters A through M

to please bring a dessert or fruit item, and members whose last names begin with the letters N through Z to please bring a hot dish, salad, or other side dish. I am very honored and grateful to the Church Council and the Fellow-ship Committee for their desire to host such an event! I do not want my wish that our celebration be minimal to communicate any lack of appreciation on my part.
