DIVINE MERCY
SUNDAY
Celebrate Divine Mercy
Today the Church, including Saints Peter and
Paul Parish, honors Divine Mercy. The Church’s universal devotion to the greatness of God’s mercy comes from a series of apparitions which Jesus gave to a nun in the community of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Krakow, Poland. Today we refer to her as Saint Faustina. In the apparitions, Our Lord asked the cloistered nun to spread devotion to His mercy throughout the world. In response to that call, our parish will have its annual celebration of Divine Mercy today (Sunday) at 3:00 in the Church. We will have a holy hour which will include the recitation of the Divine Mercy chaplet and benediction.
Imagine the state of the human soul following World War I, particularly in Poland. The effects of war had saddened the human spirit. Since the German and Russian forces had run over Poland during the war, the people there felt particularly downtrodden and abused. In the midst of this sad scene, God intervened with messages of mercy. This message of mercy awakens a new hope for the people who had seen the grimmest war in human history. This hope should be awakened in us as well.
The hope which God chose to offer the world following World War I was not some material comfort or even a promise of freedom from adversity but rather hope through trust in God. The message of the Divine Mercy devotion provides an enthusiastic “yes” to the mercy of God. The banner on the bottom of the Divine Mercy image reads “Jesus, I Trust in You.” You can see this at the bottom of the image of Christ which hangs in our church near our statue of Mary. Trusting in Jesus will bring us to cooperate with His will. That divine will is for our salvation! Our hope, just as it was the hope for people after World War I, is to find solace in the will of God and to trust Him.
If you have adversity in your life (and if you don’t, I want to meet you!), then we need to trust God. This trusting in God Who will deliver us ultimately from all sin is at the heart of the devotion to Divine Mercy. The devotion to Divine Mercy merely continues the story of God’s work to save us through the Son. This trusting in Jesus allows us to have his mercy triumph in us and in our world. It also makes us saints!

MINISTRY CORNER!
MUSIC MINISTRY As a Music Minister, one offers their gift to the glory of God. Through this ministry, one shares their faith, a faith that saves. Music Ministers share their life and song as a disciple. Within the Mass, the music serves a variety of needs. Music is used to gather the voice of the assembly into one. It brings us into the processions. It colors and drives the Worship. It is the sharing of your faith through music that will attract the faith of others. God will be praised! As a Minister of Music, you help the entire assembly fulfill its role. A Minister of Music may have specific roles as: Choir Member Cantor Small Group Member Instrumentalist Pianist/Organist Director Psalmist Children's Choir Youth Choir
Some music ministers have more than one role. Some roles will by their very nature require an under-standing of reading music and the related dynam-ics. (If you want to be a trumpet player/minister, you really need to know how to read the music and make the correct sound!) Yet, some roles, like a vocalist in the Choir or small group may not need the same level of proficiency in reading music. Music Ministers will be available after the Masses for the weekend of April 21 & 22 to answer any ques-tions you may have. We will be happy to explain our Ministry to you at Coffee and Doughnuts on Sunday morning! All ages are invited to consider a role in the Music Ministry. We know from Sacred Scripture, that Jesus sang and enjoyed singing. We read of choirs singing in heaven. Join us and catch a glimpse of heaven. LITURGICAL SINGING
Having traveled through Lent, we as a people were led into the Triduum. These are great seasons for us to reflect and see our participation as a people. The Conference of Bishop (USCCB) have shared in their document Sing to the Lord that singing is a part of our journey. It does define us. They use the following quote by Pope Benedict (Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger): “Liturgical singing is established in the midst of this
great historical tension. For Israel, the event of sal-
vation in the Red Sea will always be the main reason
for praising God, the basic theme of the songs it
sings before God. For Christians, the Resurrection of
Christ is the true Exodus. . . . The definitively new
song has been intoned. . . .”

KNOWLEGDE & UNDERSTANDING
(Part 2 of 2 - St. Francis, Death and Resurrection)
Last week ended with Francis’s Good Friday.
Suddenly alone, naked, desperately poor, the object of ridicule, he opened his entire being to God’s provi-dential hand. In dying to his life of privilege he found a radical freedom, his Easter.
The re-formed Francis of Assisi was swept away by his realization that God simply won’t stop loving us. He became totally united to the truth that no matter where we run or what we do Christ is there with the overflowing love that is the Holy Spirit. He now was free to respond. His charge to “repair my Church” began simply with the renovation of San Damiano chapel outside of Assisi. This mission then grew to the creation of the Franciscan Order which helped reorient the Church away from corruption.
Many theologians have described Francis’s painfully complete humility. The closer he moved to God the smaller and weaker he became. His biog-rapher Nikos Kazantzakis put these words into the breath of the saint in his final day;
What is love my brothers? It is not simply com-
passion, not simply kindness. In compassion and
kindness there are two; the one who gives and the
one who receives. But in love there is only one, the
two join, unite, become inseparable. The “I” and the
“you” vanish. To love means to lose oneself in the
beloved.” Dr. Lawrence Rust
SERVING WITH SISTERS Curious how to work, pray and play with the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of

ORGAN
Ron found a way to use our organ! What a great time to hear Easter Hymns on the organ. This doesn't mean that all problems are solved--but at least we are able to praise God with our song and organ music. We will be assessing what actually needs to be repaired to keep the organ a part of our music ministry.
