Welcome to Divine Grace Lutheran Church

We welcome you in the name of our Savior! We are anxious to share with you the blessings of the Gospel, and pray that you will leave us this morning spiritually nourished for the week to come and return again to worship with us next Sunday. Theme: As we inch closer to Good Friday and Easter Sunday, we remember how sin separates us from our holy God. And yet God, in

love, didn’t forsake us in our sin. Jesus came to serve us by saving us.

Scripture Lesson: Matthew 20:17-28 Jesus teaches the true meaning of greatness and honor before God. Greatness comes in service. And the Son of Man shows his own greatness in just this way: he came to serve and to give his life as a ransom.

17As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside; and on the

way he said to them, 18“Look, we are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed

over to the chief priests and experts in the law, and they will condemn him to death. 19They

will hand him over to the Gentiles to mock, flog, and crucify him. On the third day he will be

raised.” 20Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to him with her sons, kneeling and asking

something of him. 21He said to her, “What do you want?”

Sermon Text: Hosea 5:15-6:3 15“I will go. I will return to my place until they are judged guilty,

and they seek my face in their distress.

They will seek me eagerly.” 6:1Come, let us return to the LORD.

He himself has torn us,

but he will heal us.

He is wounding us,

but he will bandage us. 2He will restore us to life after two days.

Church News… Altar Flowers: The flowers that beautify our service today were given to God’s glory by Jeff Bozeman and Christine Johnson in celebration of their 5th anniversary.

Children’s Sunday School and Teen Bible Study Canceled: Until further notice, Children’s Sunday School and Teen Bible Study has been canceled. Thank you to all of our wonderful Sunday School teachers for their dedication. Adult Bible Class will continue to meet on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am (however, no fellowship snack).

Midweek Lenten Services: Join us on Wednesdays during Lent, with worship services beginning at 7:00 pm. There will NOT be dinner prior to any of the midweek services.

Women Serving Christ will meet briefly after the late service today.

Call Meeting: Voters, please note that there will be a call meeting after the late service on Sunday, March 29 in order to place a one-year call for a teacher (grades 3-4) to serve in our school starting next school year. Please plan to attend!

Call Received: St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Adrian, Michigan, extended a divine call to Mrs. Kristi Coffin, our kindergarten teacher, to serve as a preschool teacher for next year. She will take the next few weeks to give prayerful consideration between her call here to Divine Grace and the call there, determining where she can best use her God-given gifts. Please keep her in your prayers, and feel free to share any helpful input with her that may prove helpful as she makes her decision.

With the Lord: This past Wednesday morning, March 18th, our gracious Lord, in his infinite wisdom, gathered home to himself in heaven the soul of our dear brother in Christ, Doctor John Feemster. We thank our loving God for having delivered John to the victory that Jesus won for him, and for bestowing him with the crown of everlasting life. Please keep his family in your prayers, asking the God of all grace to comfort them with the sweet balm of his gospel now and in the days to come. “I am the Resurrection and the Life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die” (John 11:25,26).

Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Breakfast Canceled: Our Church Council has decided to cancel the Easter Egg Hunt (April 4) and the Easter Breakfast between services (April 12).

Choir: Choir practice has been suspended for the time-being.

Videos Coming Soon: Divine Grace is working on posting Sunday worship services on our website divinegrace.net and Facebook. For now, we will continue worship services as scheduled. We understand that many of our members will not feel comfortable coming to public worship services during this uncertain time, and that’s okay. Podcasts of Sunday sermons are available. Please rest secure in these uncertain times that nothing is out of the control of our gracious and powerful God.

Electronic Giving: Divine Grace is in the process of providing a way for you to give your offering electronically. For now, please place your offering in the basket in the church entryway. Collection plates will not be passed down the row. More information to follow.

Canceled- The Case for Christ – WSC Event: This movie event has been canceled. It was originally scheduled for Sunday, March 29th.

Preschool and K-8 Applications: We are now taking applications for the upcoming school year. If you are interested, or know of someone who may have a need for a quality Christian education, please download an application from our website divinegrace.net.

Save the Date - Blood Drive: The spring blood drive will take place May 5, 2020, from 1:00 to 6:45 pm. Think about how you can positively impact the life of someone having a health crisis. Look for more info and sign-up sheets on the WSC bulletin board in the next month!

Mission Boxes Due March 29: You may place your Mission Box (or empty its contents) in the box located on the credenza in the church entryway by March 29th. You are welcome to save your box to reuse. The Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS) uses the funds to support projects that increase outreach efforts. With the Lord’s blessings, your support for these projects will allow the missions to reach more lost souls with the precious gospel message.

Church Council Highlights: We are providing an email newsletter to keep you informed about things happening at Divine Grace, and will be sending it out after each month's Council meeting. If you are not receiving this but would like to, please send a simple request to office@divinegrace.net. Be sure to add this email address to your contacts, so that the newsletter does not end up in your spam folder.

Precautions: Effective immediately, we will take the following precautions: We will close off every other pew to allow for physical distancing. We will remove hymnals and Bibles from the pew racks, and are encouraging people

to use the bulletin and monitors to follow the service. If someone needs to use a hymnal, they may get one from the ushers and then leave it on the pew to be disinfected after the service.

We will wipe down the hard surfaces of our pews, along with door knobs, faucets, etc. after each worship service.

We have canceled all of our Lenten dinners. We have suspended all fellowship snacks until further notice. Bible Class will be held in the church, so that tables and chairs are not carriers of any

germs. The tables and chairs in the fellowship hall will be taken down. We will not offer the common cup on Communion Sundays. We will usher up only half as many people at a time to take Communion, to maintain

distancing. We will work hard to find a way to make video recordings of our Sunday services

available to our members starting immediately. We have canceled the Easter Egg Hunt. We have canceled the Easter Breakfast. Choir has been suspended. If the government puts further mandated restrictions on group gatherings, we may

have to cut back even further. We will, at the very least, strive to offer video recorded services, if not something

streamed live each week, regardless of what is decided.

Annual Church & School Camp Out Details: Divine Grace church and school families have always enjoyed camping together. For years we have been at Groveland Oaks County Park, and will be there again this summer. Plan to join us if you have any interest in camping – we really have a good time! We have the whole week of August 3-9 reserved. Please sign up now in the Fellowship

Hall. We have room for up to 20 families in our circle. Each site in the circle has a picnic table and electricity. In the center we share a covered pavilion, large grill and a pit for evening campfires. Restrooms and showers are a short walk away. The lake has a beach and allows non-motorized boats. Bring your tent, pop-up, luxury camper, or whatever you have and join the fun! The church picnic will also be at the campground this year. (You don’t need to camp to come to the picnic.) Join us! It will be a lot of fun!

MISSION STATEMENT

Divine Grace Ev. Lutheran Church is a gathering of believers in Jesus Christ in the Lake Orion, Michigan area. As followers of our Lord and Savior, we are devoted to fulfilling the Great Commission he has given us in Matthew 28:18-20. Compelled by the love of Christ, we strive to make disciples for Jesus through faithful use of the means of grace--God’s Word of Law and Gospel, Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. In order to carry out this ministry, we follow Christ’s commands:

To join in regular worship and to conduct active lives of prayer

(Psalm 95:1,2,6,7; Colossians 4:2)

To study God’s Word diligently and to hold to it faithfully (2 Peter 3:18; John 8:31,32)

To encourage fellow believers to grow in their Christian faith and life

(Hebrews 10:23-25)

To restore erring members to a life of discipleship through loving, Christ-centered discipline

To express our Christian love by serving the needs of our fellowmen
