Provides a distinct example of what happens when independence begins in a colony with 2 major ethnicities

Sri Lanka is torn by the fighting between the Sinhalese and the Tamils.

The fighting began in 1983.

Between the 2 ethnicities, 60,000 have died from the fighting.

Out of the 300 out of the 2000 years the fighting has cooled down due to European rule.

Tamil language is also spoken by 70 million people in India

Tamil feel discriminated with Sinhalese dominating the government
