    DIC was Established in May 1978 in order tocater to the needs of small units.

    Each district has a DIC at its headquarters. Main responsibility- act as the chief

    coordinator or multifunctional agency.

    Financial assistance: Number ofdevelopment agencies/institutions were setup by the govt. e.g: IDBI, IFCI, ICICI

    DIC gives assistance for setting up & runningan industry in rural areas.

    Up to 1991 about 422 DICs had been set upthroughout the country.

    These DICs have assisted more than 1.5 lakhunits generating employment for more than10.3 lakh persons.

    Metropolitan cities- Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta &Chennai have been kept outside the purview ofthe DIC.

    The District level single window agency headed bythe deputy commissioner of the district will

    examine all proposals in all sectors includingindustry, tourism, IT,BT and agro food processingand infra structure with an investment upto Rs. 3crores.

    1. Prime Minister Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) Launched on October 2, 1993 by Govt. of India with a

    view to generate gainful mass employmentopportunities.

    2. Seed Money Scheme (SMS) Was launched by Govt. of India in 1976-77 under the

    Employment Promotion Programme.

    3. DIC Loan Scheme

    Implementing authority: General Manager, DIC The scheme is to provide financial assistance in the form

    of margin/seed money for the promotion of small & tinyscale industries.

    The district Belgaum is bestowed with good climate,weather, rain and most suited to agriculture,sericulture, commercialization and other. DICs aresupposed to provide pre-investment, investment &post-investment assistance to entrepreneurs. The DICshave done a commendable job in the promotion ofSSIs, development of entrepreneurship & generation ofself-employment. But much is still is desired to be done

    to make the DICs a one-window service.
