Hats off to Rtn Michael Metcalf for his organisational skills in putting together

our recent Anzac Day Breakfast project. We successfully served almost 500

people a full cooked Ausie breakfast in just on 1 hour, now that’s an achievement

in itself.

A very special thanks must of course go to our club members, Rotaractors,

partners and friends of Rotary because without their loyal and willing

participation this event just could not happen.

Members and partners turned up on Saturday 23rd

to prepare the food, and all the

other pieces of equipment necessary to ensure a great result on Monday 25th

President Report

1. The 2016/17 Budget has been accepted by the board and is a very well balanced budget a great

effort by our treasurer Bob cooper

2. Anzac Day was a great effort by Mike Metcalf and his team, public numbers were slightly down,

but the team still seamlessly served about 450 in a hour (Sausages, Bacon, Eggs, Bake Beans and

toast)

3. Lee Davis and Steve C had the money Spinner at Motorplex on Saturday night 30th April 2016 and

raised $50.00 Thanks Lee & Steve

4. Palm Beach Rotary clubs Gala Dinner and Auction was held 30th April @ Garry Holland centre,

we had 10 members and partners plus Carol Adams and Chis attend for a great night out, about

200 people attended and the auction alone raised over $30k, extremely well organised

5. District assembly was held at Rossmoyne Senior High School on 1st May, and was a good

informative session for those that attended

6. District Gala Dinner is also fast approaching 19th May at the Parmelia Hilton 14 Mill St, Perth, this

promise to be a great night out with Bill Boyd as the guest speaker

8. Combined Rotary Meeting 30th May at the Clipper inn Rockingham with Guest Speaker: Anne

Carey 2016 WA Australian of the Year to speak on her time in Sierra Leone fighting Ebola, We

have 5 members from Kwinana registered to attend (room for more)

9. While the fridges and freezers in the shed are empty we need a busy bee to defrost and clean then

out, they are a mess before we fill them again

are in the process of resubmitting it.

PP Ian Critchley has returned from his overseas trip and wished to thank

PDG John Iriks for taking over the role whilst he was away.

Joint Peel District Meeting at Ocean Clipper Inn on Monday May 30th

Anzac Day breakfast once again very successful almost 500 breakfasts

served in just over an hour.

Rtn Michael M wished to sincerely thank all members and partners and

friends who have given of their time to ensure once again that this

successful project is ‘done and dusted’ for another year.

The next Wellard Village Markets to be held on Sunday 8th May

Lorraine & Mike still looking for assistance with the bread project,

currently handling up to 700 loaves per week, we are able to help many

people in Kwinana.

Anyone able to help please see either Lorraine.

Lorraine L has two confirmed candidates for RYPEN.

We are providing 2 Microscopes for Leda Primary School.

BowelScan kits are available at 4 local pharmacies at $15 each.

Users now can mail their sample direct.

Opportunities have become available to raise funds at the Motorplex by

having our money spinner there..

PP Ian C believes we should persevere with this opportunity.

Lee D and Stephen C took the money-spinner to the last meeting and

report some improvement. Next week will be the last meeting of the

current season.

Polio This Week 20th

The globally synchronized switch from the trivalent to bivalent

oral polio vaccine, the first stage of objective 2 of the Polio

Eradication and Endgame Strategic Plan 2013-2018, is underway

between 17 April and 1 May

The Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on immunization

(SAGE) met on the 12 to 14 April to discuss polio eradication.

The final communique of the Organisation of Islamic

Cooperation (OIC) Istanbul Summit, adopted by OIC Heads of

State and Government, reaffirmed the importance of preserving

the health and wellbeing of children as a duty of parents and

society as prescribed by Islam, and appealed to religious scholars

and leaders to support polio eradication efforts.

Guest Speaker: Pastor Nicole O’Dea

Daughters of Destiny Victory Life Church Kwinana

Introduced by Rtn Lorraine Lucas.

Pastor Nicole O’Dea has been assisting women of all ages to recover from abuse for 15 years.

She has a Diploma and Bachelor of Arts Degree in Christian Ministry.

Daughters of Destiny is a Christian Ministry and a Registered Benevolent Charity with an ABN

reaching out to women and girls who have suffered abuse and who are seeking a breakthrough in

their lives.

Founded by Nicole O’Dea Daughters of Destiny Inc. or DODI Retreat for Girls was incorporated in

February 2011.

All of the ladies involved in the running of DODI are abuse survivors and fully qualified in their

fields of expertise – we only gather the best people to walk the journey with these young lives.

Every Friday workshops are held for girls and young women divided into groups according to age.

Workshops run alongside the school terms on the same dates, is without cost and within these

workshops the following occurs.

A light meal is shared with a healthy focus

Encouraging Christian based teaching is given by young qualified teachers under the

supervision of the mature women with teaching manuals supplied.

Girls are gently encouraged to seek our free counselling to help them through their issues.

Craft, sewing, cooking, dance and movement and an excursion once a month is provided.

The reasoning behind the workshop program is to have a place for women and girls to go to feel

comfortable and relaxed and encouraged, to make friends and build relationships.

Its objective is also to build a bridge to counselling which is encouraged in these workshops.

Counselling services are available Monday to Friday and is a place of healing provided for women

and girls to be able to talk in a safe and confidential environment; to talk about their issues; receive

prayer and encouragement; and receive referrals to psychologists and or any other assistance they

may need.

Homestead and Academy.

The Baldivis Daughters of Destiny Homestead and Academy for women and girls, the first of its

kind in Australia commenced intake in March 2016.

Included on-site training room for TAFE classes, Chapel and Counselling Rooms.

Girls are encouraged to learn life skills to run their own homes and to learn to survive day to day

life, supporting themselves in a controlled and safe environment where support is there 24 hours a

day 7 days a week.

A Schedule is provided with daily activities available targeting Emotional, Cognitive and Functional

Recovery for some of the more serious abuse cases where total care is needed.

The age range for this type of centre would be 18 years to 25 years, with exceptions made either side

of this age group on a case by case basis. At present 5 girls are catered for, this will be increased to a

maximum of 10 girls.

A wealthy old lady decides to go on a photo safari in Africa, taking her poodle along for company. One day the poodle starts chasing butterflies and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a hungry-looking leopard heading rapidly in his direction. The poodle thinks, "Uh, oh!" Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the leopard is about to leap, the poodle exclaims loudly, "Boy, that was one delicious leopard! I wonder if there are any more around here?" Hearing this, the leopard halts his attack in mid-strike, a look of terror comes over him and he slinks away into the trees. "Whew!" says the leopard. "That was close! That poodle nearly had me!" Meanwhile, a monkey who had been watching the whole scene from a nearby tree, figures he can put this knowledge to good use and trade it for protection from the leopard. So off he goes, but the poodle sees him heading after the leopard with great speed, and figures that something must be up. The monkey soon catches up with the leopard, spills the beans and strikes a deal for himself with the leopard. The leopard is furious at being made a fool of and says, "Here, monkey, hop on my back so you can watch me chew that poodle to bits!" Now, the poodle sees the leopard coming with the monkey on his back and thinks, "What am I going to do now?" but instead of running, the dog sits down with his back to his attackers, pretending he hasn't seen them yet, and waits until they get just close enough to hear. "Where's that damn monkey?" the poodle says. "I sent him off an hour ago to bring me another leopard!"
