I asked myself when was the last time I invited someone to my Rotary meeting or an event, I didn’t like the answer. So I decided that if I’m going to ask you to GROW Rotary then I need to be at work doing the same thing. I made a list of 4 people that I think would make a great addition to my club, or any club and I’m going to invite them to a meeting or project over the next few weeks. I already asked someone today and she is coming to our Satellite meeting with me next week. I’m going to ask you to do the same. When was the last time you brought someone to a meeting? My challenge is to “Invite 4 in August”. If your clubs meeting time doesn’t work for them, let them know about other clubs near you that meet at different times. Don’t forget about our Passport club that meets online with quarterly face to face and then members work with clubs near them. If you accept this challenge, please email me at [email protected] and let me know you are actively working this month to GROW your Rotary Club. Our Membership Chair, Samantha Maruzelli has plenty of ideas to help your club GROW with new membership types, planning a meet and greet and others. Another Successful RYLA!is year marks the 9th anniversary District 7410hosted RYLA at Keystone College in LaPlume, PA.

is year, 74 young leaders gathered to participatein active learning to better themselves and theircommunities.

RYLA 2019 (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) washeld the week of June 23rd – 27th and was led by Executive Chairs Amy Leiser and Karen DeMatteo, both of the Rotary Club of the Stroudsburgs. Together, Amy and Karen oversaw twenty-one staffmembers in addition to the RYLA conferees.

e 5-day conference featured days packed with activities. From breakfast at 7:45 am each morningto lights out at 11:00 pm, the conferees and staffstayed busy. roughout the week, RYLA confereeslearned about Rotary and how to embrace the 4-way test.

ey worked on group assignments, participated inRise Against Hunger food packaging service project, and listened to motivational speakers.

Ice-breakers were run by the staff to get help breakconferees out of their comfort zones, and numerousactivities taught the participants how to respectother’s opinions, to work in teams, and to developtheir own confidence and self-worth. Even the talentshow was a milestone for some who had never per-formed in front of a crowd before!

Interestingly, all of the activities were fun and theparticipants might not have realized at the time thatthey were learning leadership skills until after theconference was over and they took time to reflectback on their experience at RYLA.

Never in the same group of people, the confereeswere strategically divided up with each activity toensure everyone met someone new each day.Friendships were formed, lessons were learned, andpride in oneself was developed.

Thank You!As always, thank you to all of the members of District 7410 for supporting this importantexperience for northeastern and central Pennsylvania area youth. The dedication of promoting positive attitudes and providing an opportunity for these teenagers to flourish and tounlock their leadership potential is commendable.

A special thank you to our sponsors!

Your support allows us to maintain the high-qual-ity programming at RYLA!• V-One Embroidery• The Leiser Family• The DeMatteo Family• Access Office Technologies• Bootlegger Farm LLC

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Please consider assisting with this inspirationalprogram. We are looking for new Rotarians tohelp bring fresh ideas and continue the positiveenergy RYLA provides to our youth. Please reachout to Karen DeMatteo [email protected] to discover how you can be part of the fun and how you can getinvolved with this worthwhile event.

Dessin Animal ShelterOn Tuesday July 23rd we had a visit from the Dessin AnimalShelter.

Representing them was BoardCo-Chair Lisa Weber and Hu-mane Office Marlene Metzger.

Accompanying them was Ransom, a trained therapy dogwho assists in a variety of ways inour area.

We learned so much about howthe Dessin Animal Shelter helpsanimals in our community andhow they help people in our community, too! ey are affiliated with the thrift shop"e Cat's Pajamas" in Hones-dale and the proceeds from thethrift shop come right back to theanimal shelter. Also, the animal

shelter works with organizations (such as VIP, for example) to help the pets of those who are in a crisis situation.

All pets adopted from Dessin are sterilized, micro chipped (they register the microchips, too!), and vaccinated priorto leaving the shelter upon adoption. Our members collectively gathered items to donate such as dog food, catfood, cat litter, etc. Because they are funded over 99% from donations, they graciously accept monetary donationsand donations of all animal-related items (food, bedding, litter, towels, sheets, collars, leashes, etc). If you're unableto donate animal items, and a monetary donation isn't an option for you, donating some old clothes and shoes orany thrift-able item to e Cat's Pajamas is a great way we as a community can help out!

ank you so much for coming to our meeting to talk about your organization. It was very informational!
