will never forget how it felt to walk across the stage with my fellow District 63 Toastmasters as we were recognized by Distin-guished Toastmaster Gary Schmidt, 2009-2010 Toast-masters International Presi-dent, for being a Distin-guished District! Because of the dedication, support and hard work each of you provided throughout the year,

My attendance at the Inter-national Conference in Palm Desert, CA will always be one of my favorite Toastmasters memories. Please allow me to share just a few of my experi-ences as a first-timer with you. Tuesday and Wednesday consisted of training for the top 3 District officers and was the first time the officers from around the world had ever been trained together. By the end of day 2, I was sure I would not be able to retain anymore information.
What a great opportunity to network, share ideas, and become friends with other Toastmaster leaders world-wide! During Wednesday’s open-ing ceremony, I experi-enced a unique experience for a first-timer…. I was asked to carry the Trinidad flag in the Parade of Flags. If you think watching a ceremony like this can put goose bumps on your arms just imagine how it feels have the honor of carrying one of the flags! The Hall of Fame Cere-mony was held Thursday. I

September is Dues Time!
Did I say September? Yes,
September. If you’re not
already talking about dues
in your club, start talking
now to ensure your club
can submit them to Toast-
masters International by
October 1st. I know, Octo-
ber is when dues are actu-
ally due but if you’re not
working on it now, they
won’t be submitted by the
October 1st due date.
Did you know that if your
club pays at least the num-
ber of members you
started the year with by
October 1st that you are
also going to get recogni-
tion and a new club banner
ribbon? That’s right, Har-
vest Your Members is
awarded to all clubs that
pay on-time and retain the
membership level they
started the year with.
If you don’t have all of
your dues collected, please
get credit for paying your
dues on-time by submit-
ting a minimum of at least
6 members and keep going
until you have collected
them all and keep renew-
ing. Online is always the
easiest and fastest way. If
you have them before Oc-
tober 1st, go ahead, get it
done, and avoid the rush.

We are looking past the expected…past the regu-lar…past the minimum. We are seeking a new level…higher ground…exceptional performance. This is our new goal for this brand new year. You have already begun this new journey. As I re-viewed the reports to check our progress, I found after less than two months, we have already attained 15 Competent Communicator and 6 Advanced Communi-cator designations…well on our way to meeting the edu-
cational awards required of us for this year. Not only that but you are advancing as Leaders as well with 6 Competent Leader, 3 Ad-vanced Leader and 1 Distin-guished Toastmaster desig-nations. Congratulations to all of you who have worked so diligently already this year. Keep up the fantastic work! I expected nothing less from the hard working Toastmasters of District 63…and you continue to amaze me as I watch you grow and attain the goals
you set for yourselves. We have many new members this year and I know that the leaders across District 63 are mentoring these new Toastmasters, encouraging them to work toward their first Competent Communi-cator and/or Competent Leader level. Please know that I am working right be-side you to attain maximum communication and leader-ship growth as we “Achieve Greatness Together.”

(cont’d from page 1) Gary also presented Kristi Herring with the Excellence in Marketing Award and me with the Excellence in Education and Training Award. The Semi-final International speech contests were held Friday. The 81 contestants from around the world were divided into 9 separate con-tests. District 63 was well represented by Bridgestone Babblers’ Stephen Cornwell. He did an outstanding job of representing District 63 by placing 2nd in his semi-final contest. Congratulations to Stephen on this accomplish-ment! Of course it wasn’t all fun and games, besides the Dis-trict officer training, several other great break-out ses-sions were held. The educa-tion opportunities that were provided were fantastic. What better way to begin a Saturday then with a business meeting! I have to admit, I would probably look forward to more business meetings if
they were all like this one. How many business meetings have you attended that you could do the electric slide or dance to YMCA and other songs while waiting on the results from the ballots? But business was completed and after a few run-offs for a cou-ple of the races, the results were announced….your 2010-2011 Toastmasters International top 4 officers are: Pat Johnson, DTM - President Michael R. Notaro, DTM – President-Elect John Lau, DTM – First Vice President George Yen, DTM – Second Vice President Finally it was time for the main attraction…the Interna-tional Speech Contest! The time, dedication, and work put into each speech by all the speakers who partici-pated in the semi-finals was evident in their delivery. The same was true for the 9 final-ist. Each speech presented was amazing, but of course, there can only be 1 World
Champion of Public Speaking winner. The 2010-2011 World Champion of Public Speaking is David Henderson from District 55, San Antonio, TX. What better way to end an International Conference then with a President’s Dinner & Dance. It was a perfect op-portunity to say good-bye to all my Toastmaster friends from around the world! My plans to attend the next conference are already in the works since the next 2 Inter-national conferences promise to be just as exciting as this one has been. The 2011 con-ference is being held in Las Vegas, Nevada and the 2012 conference will be held at Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort in Orlando, Florida on August 15-18, 2012! Thanks again for your contin-ued support and dedication to “Energize Your Future – Achieving Greatness To-gether” as we journey to make District 63 President’s Distinguished in 2010-2011!

I recently attended the dis-trict officer training at the Toastmasters International convention in Palm Desert, California and was so im-pressed with marketing teams that other districts have in place. Historically, our district has done a very good job bringing in new members and creating new clubs, but there is always room for improvement. Not only do I want to help “make the benefits of Toastmasters membership available to greater numbers of people,” but I also want to create a team concept (template) that will help our district exceed our expectations for this year and beyond. I am a half-
glass full kind of person, but I am also a realist. I realize that I cannot do this alone. We are off to an amazing start with identifying pro-spective clubs, but there are so many more opportunities throughout our district. Please let me know if you are interested in helping with New Club Contacts, being a Club Coach, being a New Club Sponsor and/or Men-tor, or looking for an idea for an HPL project. By doing so, you will be helping our dis-trict become stronger for years to come.

Marketing - Clubs and Members
Congratulations are in Order!
Toastmasters doesn’t start
showing any clubs in this
area until clubs pay. As we
just started the calendar
year, no clubs have paid yet.
When new clubs charter, that
counts. The biggest boost
we will get comes at dues
time. We can’t get too ex-
cited about reaching our goal
until after the April dues pe-
riod for
member-
ships -
Again,
this is
when
membership payments are
made this year so we’ve just
started knocking down the
number. The majority of
these payments will come at
dues times.
CCs and ACs - Every time an
individual reaches a goal, it
also helps the District meet
their Educational goals.
The Numbers
So what do all these numbers
mean anyhow? First, remem-
ber the calendar year for
Toastmasters is July 1st—
June 30th so we’ve just be-
gun a new year and a new set
of goals. Remember, every-
thing you do that impacts
your club(s) impacts the Dis-
trict. Let’s look at each area:

Congratulations and job well done are in order for Stephen Cornwell. Stephen represented our District in the Interna-tional Speech Contest at the International Convention and finished in Second Place in the Semi-Final round. A lot of hard work, time, and effort went into getting to Palm Desert and he represented the District very well in a field with tough competition. We are very proud of Stephen! For anyone not familiar with the changes made to the format, starting this year every District level winner went to the In-ternational Convention to compete in randomly selected Semi-Final Contests with other District winners from around the world. The winners from the 9 Semi-Final Contests went on to compete in the World Championship of Public Speaking Contest. Stephen competed against the following Districts: 7, 13, 21, 27, 43, 53, 66, and 69.
Congratulations Stephen Cornwell!
