$13,000 FOR STUDENTS ! The Lions Club of Drouin has donated $13,000.00 to Schools and Kindergartens in the Drouin area at a presentation dinner recently. Funds raised came from their Garden and Home Expo held at Lardner Park in October last year. The Schools and Kindergartens received $1000.00 each, to help with a large variety of needs and wishes.

Drouin Primary School Principal Brad Wheller said,” We are delighted to have received the $1000.00. Next year we are beginning science as a specialist class across the entire school. Mr Rob Comber who will be our science teacher is planning to construct a chicken coup alongside our vegetable garden. The donation will assist us to purchase building materials. We thank Drouin Lions for your ongoing support.”

Michael Smith Principal from Drouin South Primary School says, ‘Our school Community would like to extend our gratitude for the donation. The funds will be used to support and subsidize children who are unable to pay for camp.”

‘Drouin Primary Early Learning Centre being a new kindergarten will be putting their funds towards the development of our outdoor area. Thank you Drouin Lions

for your support.” said Teacher Bridgitte Williames.

St Ita``s Primary School are putting the donation towards special chairs for Integration students.

President of Drouin Lions Nick Drodge said,” It`s very rewarding working with the Community for the Community, whilst having a lot of fun along the way. We have been donating to the Schools and Kindergartens for a number of years now to help fulfil those little wishes.”

FLINDERS LIONS ON FIRE FOR THE CFA! Over $26,000 was raised by the Flinders and District Lions Club Fundraising Dinner towards the Flinders CFA new fire station. Thank you to those wonderful people who bought tickets AND donated to the cause and also to the Balnarring and District Bendigo Bank for their generous support. Over 140 people attended the Lions Fundraising Dinner for the Flinders CFA on Friday December 2 at the Flinders Hotel. The event was to help raise critical funds to replace the fire station which is over 35 years old and has not met requirements for some time

and the present station is too small to house the necessary vehicles of which there are now three required to service the needs of the community. As CFA funding is only sufficient to provide a standard vehicle station, the recent fundraising in the Flinders Community has been most critical in order to build a station that will house the three vehicles. The vision is for a building that can be an asset to the whole community of Flinders – for example, by also providing a meeting space that residents and community groups may use.

“There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer”

The District membership numbers as at the end of December 2016 have increased to 1298, up on those recorded in June 2016. This is due to clubs working to gain new members and retaining those we already have. I attended a Council of Governors

meeting in January. As district Governors we have been asked to pass on a few things.

1. Club secretaries: please make a diligent effort to update all member details on MyLCI (MMR), as this is used to post the Australian Lion magazine to every member. Magazines that are returned to Multiple District Office costs a considerable amount of money, so to reduce this cost, address details need to be up to date please.

2. No bids for the Multiple District Convention 2020 have been received. If any Club or Zone etc would consider putting in a bid please contact myself and I will forward details to MD

3. Lions Awareness Day is March 4th. All clubs are encouraged to participate in Lions Awareness day promoting Lions in their community.

4. March to May Membership Promotion will be happening again this year. It is slightly different to last year, but still with the aim to gain new

members. Zone Chairman will have more information to share with you shortly.

It is time to start thinking about our Junior Public Speaking competition. With schools about to commence a new year, Clubs need to consider doing this worthwhile project. As seen at convention the very young competitors are utterly amazing and so it is so worthwhile for clubs to take part too. Also our Peace Poster competition is another good project to think about as schools return. Approaching schools now at the beginning of the school year is a great time to get them on board with taking part in these youth projects.

Congratulations to GMT District Coordinator Graham Cockerell for his acceptance to attend the Faculty Development Institute next March in New Zealand. We wish Graham all the best during this next level of training.

Our District team and all cabinet members are working well together. At our recent cabinet meeting, it was a fantastic feeling for me, to achieve great results through respectful communication from everyone involved in each discussion. I believe our District is ready to take on the future with success.

Yours in Lionism,
