Topic no.1: Revitalisation as a catalyst to sustain a living Heritage and

Culture. Revitalizing Core city Market

Objectives:• To rejuvenate the market area and restore its heritage character.• Preserve the cultures, traditions and trading practices that have been in use for centuries now.• To decongest the area with good planning and adding high end infrastructure by keeping the future and long term requirements of the city in mind.• Restoration of Monuments to their original glory wherever possible for display and re-use.• Identification of projects that can be undertaken under PPP model.Need, Issues Identification, process of revitalization a core market area, interventions to enhance the conservation area, legal frame work, environmental and social impact, Infrastructure sectors and intervention levels.

Topic no.2: Mega-events as a strategy for Urban regeneration How to evolve Mega-events into a tool for major urban regeneration and renewal.

Study: The impacts and roles of Mega events like Kumbh mela, Olympics, common wealth games in Urban Transformation ?

Aim: To analyse how Godavari pushkarams could be the best used to leverage it as a toll forThe development of the city and its infrastructure in the long term.

Research Question: a) How this mega event could effectively utilize as a catalyst for urban transformation ? b) How this event used to deal with the problems facing by the city like development of new c) Infrastructure, improvement of the transportation system, effective management of the financial resources and reduction in the time required for the city’s expected growth.

Objectives:1. To study the impact of Kumbh mela on city’s infrastructure and how planner have factored it in their plans for the city ?2. To draw learning from the assessment of Pushkara 1992 – 2003 and assess how city was Transformed during these events ?3. To help the planners and decision making in planning and managing the Pushkara not as a management event but an opportunity to trigger the local development.
