EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
D7.1.1 is a Report with the description of the Dissemination Plan.
The Dissemination Plan is conceived to provide the major rules and guidelines aimed at
making the results and deliverables of DESERVE available to the stakeholders and to the
wider audience.
In addition, the document will describe dissemination procedures to be followed by all
DESERVE partners to present the project at the planned events.
It is a Public Deliverable, under the Subproject 7 (Dissemination and Exploitation), to be
periodically updated during the project.
It covers the following issues and is structured as follows:
• Why – the purpose (Introduction)
The goal of all Dissemination activities in DESERVE shall be the creation of
awareness about the project goals and progresses. Moreover Dissemination tools
need to be easy to use following procedures outlined in the Dissemination plan
(see next chapter).
• What has to be disseminated – the message (Chapter 1, DESERVE message)
It is the message the project wants to send to the target audience: what
stakeholders need to know about the project and how can DESERVE communicate
it clearly are core issues of this section.
• To whom – the audience (Chapter 2, Target Groups)
Dissemination is addressed to an Internal and to an External audience. In
particular, DESERVE external audience and the related communication flows are
described in detail as target groups in this Chapter.
• How –method and tools (Chapter 4, Dissemination Methods and Tools)
Chapter 3 (Overview Of Dissemination Methods) is dedicated to tools and Media
which are planned to support and convey all Dissemination activities.

• When – the timing (chapter 3, Dissemination Strategy and Chapter 4.3,
Overview of Dissemination Methods and Tools).
The timing of activities and initiatives is planned in the Dissemination Plan, so
as to have a precise and updated overview of resources to be employed.
Chapter 4 contains also a list of events and conference where partners are
encouraged to present the project.

1. INTRODUCTION
1.1. Background
Awareness of project content, as well as of intermediate and final results, has a crucial
significance for a project’s success. This is even more valid for DESERVE, since it is
mobilizing a relevant amount of resources to achieve quite ambitious and important
results.
Moreover, due to the innovative nature of the platform to be developed in DESERVE, the
success of the project will depend also on the public and regulatory acceptance of the
DESERVE platform itself and associated methodologies. For this reason, it will be
fundamental to share information and to disseminate to the widest audience the project
objectives, results and achievements during the project life.
For these reasons Dissemination activities have always been considered of primary
importance for the DESERVE consortium since only if the achieved project’s results are
widely communicated to the public the impact of the project can be meaningful:
Dissemination activities focus on the extent to which the experiences, results,
achievements in general, gained within DESERVE, can be utilized by other organizations
and individuals interested in the ADAS domain.
The purpose of the Dissemination activities in DESERVE are to:
- Raise awareness – let others know what the project is doing
- Inform – increase the knowledge of the community
- Engage – get input/feedback from the community
- Promote – spread project outputs and results.
Defining the purpose of dissemination is a first step to decide on the audience, message,
method and timing of the dissemination.
1.2. Scope
The purpose of the document is to outline the planning of communication and
dissemination activities that will help to disseminate widely DESERVE achievements and

results. Moreover, the document will describe dissemination procedures to be followed by
all project partners.
Dissemination activities have been carefully selected and planned since the project
beginning in order to maximise the efficiency of the resources employed to this scope.
The planning was made through the “Dissemination plan” document (Deliverable D7.1.1)
which was planned to be issued at the beginning of the project and to be updated during
the project life.
1.3. Target audience
Such a document addresses the following entities within DESERVE:
European Commission: Provide a clear overview of the Dissemination
activities carried out inside the project.
Sub-Project Leaders: Provide a common base to harmonise their
dissemination and communication effort.
Steering Committee, Project Management: Provide an overview of activities,
tools and procedures on dissemination and communication.
Consortium: Provide a base to harmonise their individual communication
activities – intended as internal and external - and keep the whole consortium
up to date on progresses and results. Provide procedures to be followed for all
dissemination and communication activities.

2. DESERVE KEY MESSAGES
DESERVE aims at designing and developing a Tool Platform for embedded Advanced
Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). It enables exploiting the benefits of cross-domain
software reuse, standardised interfaces, and easy and safety-compliant integration of
heterogeneous modules to cope with the expected increase of functions complexity and
the impellent need of cost reduction.
The DESERVE Platform will provide the environment for ADAS design, development and
pre-validation and even pre-certification of software and hardware modules to be
integrated in ADAS applications. Safety critical requirements will be considered in the
design and systems development making integrated, trusted, interoperable tools and
tool-chains available.
Dissemination tools and methods will aim to spread the following DESERVE specific
messages to target audiences:
The adoption of the DESERVE Platform (technology platform for ADAS) will allow the
impacts and benefits outlined in the following pages:
“Reduction of variable and fixed costs of ADAS applications will contribute to
the promotion of the ADAS market“
Reduction of system design costs:
DESERVE aims at standardising the HW/SW interfaces, allowing a large reusability of SW
and HW components, reducing the system design cost to the high level function
development. Furthermore, DESERVE aims at stimulating the emergence of commodities
within ADAS in the form of common-off-the-shelf supplier-provided, but not supplier-
specific software modules. By using such modules a OEM can build and tailor its own
applications, such as an OEM-specific Collision Warning, sharing with other OEMs non-
competitive modules, like embedded driver models. This will make it possible to achieve
20% reduction in the system design costs.

Contract N. 295364
February 2013 Page 12
of 40 ICOOR
“Reduce time to Market by reducing development cycle time”
Reduction in development cycles:
DESERVE will enable a pre-certification of the software modules, reducing the timing for
qualification of the overall system. This, together with standardisation of interfaces and
functionalities of SW/HW components, will enable faster and effective virtual validation,
in line with the target proposed of 20% by 2016, mainly thanks to the large availability of
pre-certified component models.
“DESERVE will contribute to simplify the development of complex solutions
(multifunctional and integrated systems).”
Seamless integration of components provided by different suppliers:
DESERVE will enable the seamless integration of components provided by different
suppliers, allowing a modular approach where resources (like sensors, actuators and
HMI) will be shared and functions will be easily added thanks to standard management of
resources. So, in spite of an increase in the integration complexity, which is expected to
be more than 30%, an effort reduction will be greater than 10%.
Reduction in the effort and time required for re-validation and recertification
after change:
The DESERVE platform will be used also for re-validation of systems afterchange. Thanks
to the pre-certification of the software modules together with virtual testing methods, the
expected reduction (20%) will be easily achieved. Virtual validation, thanks to the large
availability of already certified components, will contribute also to the effort and time
reduction.
Model-driven process for the compositional development of safety and security
critical systems:
The DESERVE platform will enable the modular composition of ADAS systems based on
pre-validated components and standardised interfaces. The compositional development
of ADAS functions will be based on the Vehicle and Driver models. Requirements of ISO
26262 will be widely considered in the platform validation tools, to enable a conforming
design and qualification and re-qualification of the overall ADAS system, reducing design
and development efforts.

Reference designs and architectures:
DESERVE will establish a (common multi-domain) architecture for ADAS based on
Composability, Dependability and Design for Safety.
• Composability, a modular approach is one of the main characteristics of the
DESERVE platform, based on pre-certified and recombinant SW components
and HW and SW standardised interfaces;
• Dependability in communication functions;
• Design for Safety, since ADAS functions are mainly focused to improve
preventive safety, safety will be considered as a basic requirement in all
DESERVE developments.
Establishment of a common multi-domain architecture, APIs, and design tool
platform for advanced multi-core compute platforms:
The DESERVE platform can be used in different application domains (passenger cars,
heavy goods vehicles, moving work machines, motorcycles), wherever it is necessary to
control a vehicle or to support a driver based on the information collected from a set of
heterogeneous sensors.
For that purpose the DESERVE platform establishes a common multi-domain architecture,
and provides Software modules and a tool platform for designing and developing ADAS
functionality on (also) an advanced multi-core computing platform.
Establishment of heterogeneous multi-domain architectures and integrated and
interoperable tool suites to support massive real-time data processing:
Some sensors (for example video cameras) provide huge amounts of data to be
processed in real time. This information could be used for very different applications, for
example lane detection and traffic sign recognition. The DESERVE platform will provide
tools to support massive real-time data processing and data sharing between multiple
functions, avoiding hardware duplication.
The DESERVE Dissemination methods and tools will used to spread key messages
outlined above.

3. TARGET GROUPS The dissemination task includes the definition of specific external target groups (such as
industry, scientific community, user groups and association and general public) as well as
the dissemination activities planned for each target group and their scheduling.
The following audiences have been considered:
1. Internal audience. The members of the project consortium and your own
institution need to stay well informed about the progress of the project. Adequate
internal dissemination can also ensure that the project has a high profile.
2. Other projects. Sharing project results with coordinators and key actors of
projects dealing with similar topics, both within the programme and in others, will
ensure visibility and uptake of results, and provide opportunities to receive
feedback, share experiences and discuss joint problems and issues.
3. External stakeholders. Persons who will benefit from the outcomes of the project,
as well as "opinion makers" such as teachers, researchers, librarians, publishers,
online hosts, etc., can act as catalysts for the dissemination process.
4. The community. It is likely that certain elements of the project, such as
guidelines, methods, evaluation criteria, questionnaires, etc. can be used by a
wider audience than the specific target group. These elements can be shared with
the wider community through articles, conference presentations, case studies, etc.
A particular attention is paid to interaction with stakeholders: DESERVE will organise two
major workshops at middle and final stages of the project: they will involve major actors
from OEMs, suppliers, research institutes, public authorities, user representatives and
other stakeholders of different European countries. These events will focus not only on
the dissemination but also the evaluation of the concept, vision and preliminary
outcomes of the DESERVE project.
The first workshop will present the project and its main aims, and it will give the
opportunity to a large audience of stakeholders to give inputs and suggestions for the
project activities.
The second one will present the preliminary version of the platform in order to collect
further suggestions.

4. DISSEMINATION STRATEGY In previous chapters it has been described whom Dissemination is directed to and needs
to be addressed for effective communication.
Furthermore, it is necessary to define how this information has been transmitted. In a
more general perspective, within the aim to raise awareness of the project goals,
achievements and results to the widest audience as possible, the target groups have to
be reached by all of the tools featured in the project. In this deliverable a specific chapter
is devoted to Dissemination methods and tools, including their description, scopes and
use. In the present chapter, on the other hand, the core objectives of DESERVE’s
Dissemination are identified and Dissemination tools are put into relationship with them,
as shown in Figure 1.
Figure 1 - Dissemination scopes and tools.

Contract N. 295364
February 2013 Page 17
of 40 ICOOR
The different tools and Media are planned to be used and combined in different ways
during the three project years in order to effectively reach Dissemination objectives.
During the first project year the dissemination activities will aim to make the public
aware of project’s objectives and expected results. The DESERVE official website was
developed; a first version of leaflets and posters was designed and presented at the
Artemis Co-Summit event in Paris in October 2012. Templates for documents and
presentations have been created. Most of the dissemination material produced at this
stage will be used throughout the project life.
It has to be pointed out that at this stage of the project dissemination activities are not
limited to specific groups, but rather addressed to the general public in order make it
aware of the project’s existence and goals. Publications and presentations aim at
describing mainly the project’s concept and approach, as well as the research
methodology.
After this period, it is needed to use these tools and activities to effectively spread the
DESERVE identity, scopes and first relevant results towards more targeted groups.
During the second project year efforts will be spent to prepare and develop the
DESERVE Platform and its modules. First feedback is expected from Stakeholders via the
first Workshop (M19). The newsletters are expected to play an important role in
spreading the information about the progresses of the project. The number of planned
events is expected to increase.
In the third project year the DESERVE platform functions will be integrated into
demonstrators together with systems, sensors and actuators needed to implement the
selected test case applications. Then the validation of the DESERVE-platform will be
carried out in order to assess the benefit during the design and development of the
prototyped functions and systems (such as development costs, software reusability and
reduction of time for development) during a complete validation test. An evaluation of
compliance with DESERVE high level objectives will also be addressed.
This will imply a more targeted use of the Media and a major participation in events to
present DESERVE results, while important feedback was expected from the second
Workshop (M31).
During the last project year it will be important to spread the results achieved aiming to
reach as wide audience as possible. Differently from the first project year, on the base of

results achieved and on the impact assessed in the project, it was also important to
target them to specific audiences as well as to show how DESERVE results represent a
starting point for future research and deployment.

5.2. Description of the key dissemination tools
5.2.1. Project identity: the logo
The DESERVE logo(Figure 2) has been created at project proposal stage.
It is composed by the acronym DESERVE surrounded by graphic elements. The extended
name ‘Development Platform for Safe and Efficient Drive’ was placed at the bottom of the
logo.
Figure 2 DESERVE logo.
The green colour was chosen to underline the concept of “efficiency”, because it is
expected to be one of the impacts of DESERVE.
Colour shades aim to give an idea of dynamism.
The ”nodes” represent the modules of the platform.
The font aims to give an idea of “technology”.
5.2.2. Templates
Dedicated templates were drawn up for:
Documents (Deliverables, Deliverable Review Report, Meeting Agenda, Minutes),

5.4. Submitting papers and articles: Dissemination Release Procedures
As described in D8.2.1 Quality Plan, the following procedure for submitting papers and
articles to conferences and publications has been set up.
The participation of DESERVE Partners in an event relevant to DESERVE must be
approved beforehand by the Steering Committee (SC).
Moreover, before and after DESERVE is presented at a conference, or elsewhere, some
brief information needs to be published on the project repository and on the web site,
while making presentations and any accompanying publications downloadable.
The participation of any partner in an event must be approved beforehand in a Steering
Committee (SC) meeting. If this is not feasible, due to limitations, etc. there should be a
written approval by the Coordinator, the Dissemination Manager and the Quality
Manager.
For a conference presentation or publication, the following procedure should be followed:
4 weeks before the submission deadline: Completion of an appropriate Form and
submission of it to the SC including the Project Coordinator, the Dissemination
Manager and the QAM. In case of limitations, authors should send material to be
presented and the dissemination form to the Project Coordinator, the
Dissemination Manager and the QAM.
3 weeks before the submission deadline: The Consortium should be informed at
least via e-mail. Authors need to send info on the event and all the material to be
published and to publish it on the project repository.
2 weeks before the submission deadline: Comments have to be sent to the
authors and a copy to the Project Coordinator, the Dissemination Manager and the
QAM. Then the author should revise the draft paper accordingly. In case of
conflicts, it is the duty of Project Coordinator, the Dissemination Manager and
QAM together to take the final decision.

After paper acceptance, the revised relevant Form has been sent to the Project
Coordinator, the Dissemination Manager and the QAM, together with a copy of the
final material to be presented.
It is not possible to publish or submit any kind of material on DESERVE without the
approval at least of the Project Coordinator, the Dissemination Manager and the QAM.
The above rules have been checked by the QAM and will be strictly applied in order to:
Avoid repetition of publications of the same work,
Avoid publication of restrictive and/or commercial confidential data,
Avoid misunderstanding between participants and publication of one’s work
without proper referencing,
Secure optimum use of dissemination resources of the projects,
Guarantee the reception of all dissemination materials.
The overall quality control methodology and the technical & scientific project outputs
monitoring procedures are described in D8.2.1.

6. CONCLUSIONS
The dissemination plan aims at planning communication activities which will help to
disseminate widely DESERVE results.
Therefore, this document aims at being a reference point for all information related to
communication and dissemination activities at Project level. In addition, the document
will describe dissemination procedures to be followed by all project partners.
This Dissemination Plan presented a comprehensive dissemination strategy with a
common graphic identity, specific tools and activities adapted to the respective
target groups, a clear communication policy and a strict internal Dissemination
release procedure. When the user finishes reading this Document, she/he:
Knows which tools have been developed for Dissemination and
procedures to follow to use them,
Where to find them,
How to manage them,
If anything is not clear, she/he knows she/he can refer to specific
persons in charge of Dissemination tools and Activities, using their
coordinates.
To further improve the dissemination strategy during the project’s life, the Dissemination
Plan will be carried over the project whole duration.
