Display  of  meteorological  data    Now  we  have  computers!    DIFAX  charts  –  allowed  satellite  and  telephone  transmission  h>p://weather.noaa.gov/fax/nwsfax.html      GEMPAK  –  developed  at  NASA  GSFC  in  the  1980’s  Adopted  by  NaQonal  Weather  Service  in  1990’s  NWS  ModernizaQon,  became  NAWIPS  UNIX-­‐based  scripQng  language    MCIDAS  –  Developed  by  Wisconsin/SSEC  WXP  –  Developed  by  Purdue/EAS,  sold  to  Unisys    Unidata  (part  of  UCAR/NCAR)  developed  the  InteracQve  Data  Viewer  as  a  replacement  for  GEMPAK  JAVA-­‐based    NAWIPS-­‐II  is  on  the  way  in  Winter  2011-­‐12,  which  will  be  the  next  modernizaQon  step  for  the  NWS  UNIX-­‐based  Graphical  User  Interface
