Name: Muhammad Abdullah Salman
Sex: Male
Age: 21
Ethnicity: Pakistani
Height: 5 feet, 7inches
Weight: 140 pounds
BMI :
BMI is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by
the square of height in meters.
22.6, indicating my weight is in the Normal category for adults of my height.
For my height, a normal weight range would be from 115 to 154 pounds.
Maintaining a healthy weight may reduce the risk of chronic diseases associated
with overweight and obesity.
BMI Weight Status
Below 18.5 Underweight
18.5—24.9 Normal
25.0—29.9 Overweight
30.0 and Above Obese
Underlying health conditions: Asthma
Pulse rate: 69 bpm recorded in lab on 03/04/2020
Pulse rate is the number of heart beats per minute.
Normal heart rates at rest:
Children (ages 6 - 15) 70 – 100 beats per minute
Adults (age 18 and over) 60 – 100 beats per
minute
Blood Pressure: (100/70); recorded in lab on 03/04/2020
When your heart beats, it squeezes and pushes blood
through your arteries to the rest of your body. This
force creates pressure on those blood vessels, and
that's your systolic blood pressure. A normal systolic pressure is below 120
The diastolic reading, or the bottom number, is the pressure in the arteries when the
heart rests between beats. This is the time when the heart fills with blood and gets
oxygen. A normal diastolic blood pressure is lower than 80. But even if your
diastolic number is lower than 80, you can have elevated blood pressure if the
systolic reading is 120-129.
EKG:
An electrocardiogram, also called an ECG or EKG, is a simple, painless test
that detects and records your heart’s electrical activity.
Here is an example of EKG recording.
In class we did a lab on EKG also known as electrocardiogram. My results
were .059 MV and I got this answer from counting in between the small boxes. The
electrocardiogram is where it records the electrical activity of your heart at rest. It
also provides information about your rhythm and heart rate and what this does is it
shows any sign of hypertension. If you have heart risk factors, the EKG can help
detect those issues. Being active, eating a healthy diet and visiting health care
providers on a normal basis can lower the risks of heart disease.
Lung Capacity:
“Respiratory capacity is the combination of two or more selected volumes, which
further describes the amount of air in the lungs during a given time. For example,
total lung capacity (TLC) is the sum of all the lung volumes (TV, ERV, IRV, and
RV), which represents the total amount of air a person can hold in the lungs after a
forceful inhalation. Breathing usually occurs without
thought, although at times you can consciously control
it, such as when you swim under water, sing a song, or
blow bubbles. The respiratory rate is the total number
of breaths, or respiratory cycles, that occur each
minute. Respiratory rate can be an important indicator
of disease, as the rate may increase or decrease during an illness or in a disease
condition. The respiratory rate is controlled by the respiratory center located within
the medulla oblongata in the brain, which responds primarily to changes in carbon
dioxide, oxygen, and pH levels in the blood.
Factors That Affect the Rate and Depth of Respiration
The major factor that stimulates the medulla oblongata and pons to produce
respiration is surprisingly not oxygen concentration, but rather the concentration of
carbon dioxide in the blood. As you recall, carbon dioxide is a waste product of
cellular respiration and can be toxic. Concentrations of chemicals are sensed by
chemoreceptors.
Disorders of the Respiratory System: Sleep ApneaSleep apnea is a chronic disorder that can occur in children or adults and is
characterized by the cessation of breathing during sleep.
A diagnosis of sleep apnea is usually done during a sleep study, where the patient is
monitored in a sleep laboratory for several nights. The patient’s blood oxygen levels,
heart rate, respiratory rate, and blood pressure are monitored, as are brain activity
and the volume of air that is inhaled and exhaled. Treatment of sleep apnea
commonly includes the use of a device called a continuous positive airway pressure
(CPAP) machine during sleep.” (OpenStax)

Over the past seven days, I’ve been documenting all the food I’ve eaten. I
would say that my diet is not really that healthy for me at all. As you can see the
results have significant differences in the total calories throughout the week. It
shows that I eat more on some days and other days I barely eat. Also seen from the
food choices, I need to choose healthier options because this can affect my body in
a worse way. The app that I used is called lifesum. This app was great and helpful.
What this did was it gave me the option to put in the food that I had for breakfast,
lunch and dinner. I would then search up the item and it will show many different
ones, the calories and where I might have gotten it from. For example, if I put a big
mac it will then show options like Burger King or other places. Once I am finished
putting all the items in their category, it will add up all the calories and show how
many carbs, fibers and things like that. From the data that I concluded I would say
that most of the food and drink I have been eating and drinking have a lot of
calories. For example, during that week I ate lot of candy, meat, sushi and chips. I
usually drink water, juice and coffee.

(Sleep Monitor App used)
These are the results of my sleeping schedule for one week. As you can tell
my sleeping schedule is completely messed up and I barely get a decent amount of
sleep. The days of Monday- Friday are the days that I have school and work too. I
usually go to bed late mostly because I have work after school. Friday is the only
time when I get a decent amount of sleep. The app that I used is called
sleepmonitor. The app was straightforward and easy to use because all I had to do
was enter the time that I would go to bed and wake up. It will then show the hours
and even suggest times to go to bed to get that 8-hours of sleep.
Family History:
I started off by talking to my parents and then asking my relatives. I
learned a lot from my questioning. My mom and me, both have asthma. In my
family there is a death history of strokes and heart attacks. My father is suffering
from high blood pressure and had a heart attack. My grandfather from my father's
side died from heart attack. My grandmother from my mother’s side suffered from
strokes and died from a stroke.
Conclusion/Take home message:
Where do I see myself in 10 to 20 years? I see myself becoming a
Pharmacist, having a family, owning a home, having a better sleeping and eating
schedule and being the healthiest that I can be 10/20 years from now. The way that I
will ensure all these goals is to first believe in myself, stay motivated and determined
in every aspect of my life. My focus moving forward will be on exercising and
working out, I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to burn some calories and will be able to
maintain my body in a healthy manner. This also means being very focused in
school, making a sleep schedule that I need to follow, exercising and making
healthier food choices. There are many resources such as YouTube, blogs, articles
and apps that can help me achieve all these things. I also need to watch my sugar
intake and eat more organic foods. If I let it get out of control, I’m might get diabetes.
This lab report has made me realize that the human body needs to be taken very
care of because it is working constantly 24-7 and needs rest and sleep. Overall, I
should also be more active and exercising daily to keep my body in a good health.
