The garden centres are

full of Christmas decorations and the supermarkets full of selection boxes and gift ideas. At this rate well soon be spotting the first Christmas television advert (or have I missed it?!) First, weve got bonfire night to contend with and as a pet owner it takes a bit of preparation. I still hope that one day they will ban

the general sale of fireworks and only organised fireworks displays would be allowed but I cant see that happening in the near future!

Inside this issue you will find a feature from the March Branch of the Royal Naval Association, a puzzle page and Trevor Bevis is back with some more March history, all of this as well as our regulars. Next month we will be bringing you a special Christmas edition of Discovering March but until then, I hope you have a great November and enjoy this months issue!

Claire x

Becky x

61 HIGH STREET MARCH PE15 9JJ BOOKING: 01354 650551EMAIL: georges@georges-march.co.uk

coming up in VISIT OUR FACEBOOKEVENT PAGE AND CLICK"GOING"

LIKE US ON FACEBOOK OR VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATIONLIKE US ON FACEBOOK OR VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATIONwww.georges-march.co.uk

Georges-March Georges March Georges Marchwww.facebook.com/GeorgesMarch

www.twitter.com/georges_march

SEE "GEORGES LANDLORD BLOG"SEE "GEORGES

LANDLORD BLOG"NovemberNovember

LaurenLauren

Coming up in December: EVERY NIGHT IS A PARTY NIGHT, BOOK YOUR WORKS DINNERS AND PARTY AT GEORGES TODAY

Coming up in December: EVERY NIGHT IS A PARTY NIGHT, BOOK YOUR WORKS DINNERS AND PARTY AT GEORGES TODAY

March Christmas Lights turn on!

+++ Breaking News +++

Saturdaysaturday28th28thnovnov14th14thsaturdaysaturdaynovnovSaturdaysaturday7th7thNovNov

Come and meet ournew barmaid

from Tallawah

with Tom & AimeeFriday

27thNovember

SKA

Saturdaysaturday

novNov21st21st

Georges A5 flyer 15 11_Layout 1 14/10/2015 09:55 Page 1

November 2015 | D I S C O V E R I N G March 361 HIGH STREET MARCH PE15 9JJ BOOKING: 01354 650551EMAIL: georges@georges-march.co.uk

coming up in VISIT OUR FACEBOOKEVENT PAGE AND CLICK"GOING"

LIKE US ON FACEBOOK OR VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATIONLIKE US ON FACEBOOK OR VISIT OUR WEBSITE FOR MORE INFORMATIONwww.georges-march.co.uk

Georges-March Georges March Georges Marchwww.facebook.com/GeorgesMarch

www.twitter.com/georges_march

SEE "GEORGES LANDLORD BLOG"SEE "GEORGES

LANDLORD BLOG"NovemberNovember

LaurenLauren

Coming up in December: EVERY NIGHT IS A PARTY NIGHT, BOOK YOUR WORKS DINNERS AND PARTY AT GEORGES TODAY

Coming up in December: EVERY NIGHT IS A PARTY NIGHT, BOOK YOUR WORKS DINNERS AND PARTY AT GEORGES TODAY

March Christmas Lights turn on!

+++ Breaking News +++

Saturdaysaturday28th28thnovnov14th14thsaturdaysaturdaynovnovSaturdaysaturday7th7thNovNov

Come and meet ournew barmaid

from Tallawah

with Tom & AimeeFriday

27thNovember

SKA

Saturdaysaturday

novNov21st21st

Georges A5 flyer 15 11_Layout 1 14/10/2015 09:55 Page 1

D I S C O V E R I N G March | November 2015 4

| News from our M.P. Steve Barclay

Construction is already underway, supported by a fantastic fund-raising effort which has included a number of garden tea parties. During the summer, I spent some time identifying various bodies which allocate grants to sports clubs and community groups in our area. It has long been the case that Fenland often receives fewer grants than areas of South Cambridgeshire. I hope that, following my discussion with Michael Green at St Peters Church, we will be able to attract some additional grant funding which has not previously been identified.

Alongside securing grant funding, another way of helping local clubs and community groups is to reduce

their costs, one of which is often business rates. After working with Chatteris Football Club, we have identified that Community Amateur Sports Clubs qualify for an automatic reduction in 80% of their business rates. This is provided that the club constitution reflects a community status. I am now keen to work with any sports or community clubs in March, which are paying business rates, to see if they can also secure this reduction. If you are involved in a club which pays these rates, please contact my office on 01354 656635.

Sports facilities in March will be greatly enhanced when we finally get the much needed 4G artificial football pitch,

which will allow between 80-85 hours of play a week at Estover. These facilities are long overdue, as was highlighted in a Cambridgeshire FA report in 2012 which identified that the football facilities in March did not meet our needs. It was fantastic news last April when Cambridgeshire County Council confirmed that they would allow Estover playing field to be used as a sports centre, rather than for housing. I am informed by March Town Council that they hope to have the lease finalised later this month, and then they will host a public meeting for various sports clubs. Both Fenland District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council have each already committed 100,000 to this project.

The campaign to secure a late night train service from Stansted and Cambridge back to Fenland continues. This would make a huge difference in enabling the people of March to enjoy a night out in Cambridge rather than face a ridiculously early last train home. The invitation to tender for the new 2016 franchise has been published and I will be meeting representatives of the three short-listed rail bidders, over the coming weeks. I will continue to press the case for this much need rail improvement.

To find out more about my work in Parliament and campaigns locally, or to let me know your views, please visit my website at www.stevebarclay.net. Est, Benwick Road, Whittlesey, PE7 2HD

editor.march@discoveringmagazines.co.uk

We Shall Remember Them...Over the last six years, the March Town Sunday Remembrance Parade has flourished. We now have around 500 people on parade and the March Policing Team think last year we had 6000 spectators. Cambridgeshire Police think this is now the biggest Remembrance Parade in the county, and something of which the town can feel proud. It has certainly become a major event to organise and only works because of the people who have supported this parade for years, those in the background who, without any recognition, make it happen. I could give you a long list of names. Compared to some of you, I am a relative newcomer as this is only my seventh parade as Parade Marshal. Id like to encourage every ex-service person to take part, rather than just standing in the crowd. You are welcome to join the ranks of the Royal British Legion. Im also keen to have all the veterans on parade, those that can no longer march the route are welcome to u...
