Using Activity-BasedIntelligence and GIS
DISCOVER THE UNKNOWN
Using Geography as the Organizing PrincipleThe only common organizing framework we can apply
to all information consists of space and time. Using
geography, we can correlate information that enables
us to discover key events, trends, and patterns in data.
GIS helps users manage information and perform robust
analytics. Maps help users visualize and understand
the relevance of data.
Perform Real-Time and Forensic AnalysesArcGIS® Enterprise enables real-time and big data
analyses. Intelligence can be integrated and analyzed
in real time. Raw intelligence data can be enriched with
foundational intelligence to add context to the data.
This enables analysts to spend more time on analysis
and less time on data-conditioning activities. The same
system can support alerting and postevent analysis.
Activity-Based IntelligenceDiscovery Intelligence for Resolving the UnknownActivity-based intelligence (ABI) applies
geographic thinking in new ways to help
solve complex intelligence problems.
ABI involves a new method of intelligence
gathering that is data driven, employs
multiple sources of intelligence, and is
multidisciplinary. Geospatial intelligence
(GEOINT) is the foundation for all aspects
of ABI. Geographic information system
(GIS) technology provides the platform
to enable organizations to adopt ABI.

Integrate Information Using a Location Platform
Open Platform Integrates with Any ApplicationABI requires a multidisciplinary team. Each team
member will have specialized tools and applications for
analyzing intelligence data. ArcGIS is an open platform
supporting numerous standards. This means that data
scientists, GIS professionals, and application developers
can all have access to the same information for their
analytic environment.
Intelligence organizations are seeing the value of ABI
and discovery intelligence. The implementation of ABI
involves the convergence of new sources of intelligence
information, advancements in technology like big data
and the Internet of Things (IoT), and an innovative way
of thinking about intelligence production.
This has created great opportunities and challenges for
organizations. GEOINT agencies need to lead the way
and lend their expertise to realize the promise of ABI.
