ASYS CLEANROOM

The vision of ASYS is a completely networked production, a fully integrated logistics solution from incoming goods to transport and storage of printed circuit boards, components and magazines. The ASYS Group has a broad portfolio in the areas of software, dry storage systems, material warehouses, receiving stations and handling. ASYS can therefore offer unique solutions for material logistics from a single source.

Starting with the receiving station, where the material is fully automatically identified and marked with a unique ID – in order to trace back all further steps in the production process. If required, the exact number of components on the component rolls can be counted in order to monitor the stock without gaps. Furthermore, autonomous transport robots (AIVs) are an important part of this vision. You will take on a variety of tasks

in production and relieve production staff. AIVs load and unload the line and handle the material transport. Thanks to various attachments, the ASYS AIVs are able to carry out any material transport as required. An important task is to provide the line with the material “Just-In-Time”. The aim is to reduce line stops to a minimum. As soon as the hall layout has been taught into the software, the transport robot moves fully autonomously. The line can communicate directly with the robot. For example, if a magazine runs full or empty in a certain period of time, the line reports this and the AIVs react to it.

With the Dry Tower and the Material Warehouse, ASYS provides central storage solutions for the shop floor. The aim is to eliminate the many local storage areas. ASYS achieves this through optimal height utilization and modular design.

The footprint of the storage solutions is therefore limited to a minimum. Both the Dry Tower and the Material Warehouse can be integrated into the automated shop floor management and can be approached with AIVs.

The necessary software modules round off the comprehensive Material Logistics solution from ASYS: the AIVs are centrally controlled via fleet management, the integration of all individu-al components into the overall shop floor process takes place via Material Manager.

We are experts in implementing connections and interfaces between different systems and offering the right Software Solutions.For the connection of machines of various vendors we make use of our own powerful “ASYS Standard Interface“.

Additionally we connect to supervisory systems with interfaces like IPC/CFX or SEMI SMT-ELS. On top of that the ASYS Software Solutions handle the connection to MES and EPR systems. We have implemented already more than 5,000 connections to all common systems and orchestrate your shopfloor with strong features of our Factory Conductor.

SIMPLEX is a unique human-machine interface (HMI) for controlling and monitoring highly complex production machines. Complex input tasks can be performed intuitively on large touch or multi-touch displays. For example, multi-touch technology allows you to enlarge a printed circuit board view and place markings by simply touching the screen.

In recent years, the process machines of the ASYS Group have been gradually equipped with the award-winning SIMPLEX user interface.

Intuitive

We display a representation of theentire line, including partner systems, on mobile devices. Warnings and status messages are directly and clearly displayed and put in a meaningful order according to priority. All pending tasks are displayed with a warning limit, allowing activities to be planned in advance and processes to be coordinated. The operator can react quickly and effectively before the system comes to a standstill. This demonstrably increases plant availability and therefore the cost-effectiveness of production.

Super Dry Totech has constantly redefined the prevention of moisture absorption, oxidation and intermetallic growth while exceeding the requirements of IPC/JEDEC J-Std-033D. With the inclusion of integrated software tools and intelligent hardware that can track climate and trace components, manufacturers can advance their component management processes even further. Automated floor life reset, user ID security, component “Pick by Light” and FIFO materials management are just some examples of Super Dry’s Smart Storage Manager’s Industry 4.0 capabilities. Smart Storage Manager can also be connected to the ASYS PULSE network allowing system status and other information to be sent to mobile and wearable devices. The Dry Tower automated storage system from Super Dry Totech is a SMD reel and tray warehouse comprising integrated drying and storage for complete operator free material handling. Incorporating mature, proven drying technology and WMS integration capabilities, the system is also totally modular and can be configured for different size and storage requirements. All relevant data for processing components are saved into a data base, from entering the system through to the retrieval of components for production creating a fully automated and safe storage-system, tailored for smart SMD-electronics manufacturing.


ASYS INVENTUS assembly systems are the complete solution for the automated production of a specific product. ASYS experts develop and realize the optimal production plant under specification of all process parameters, such as through-put and quality. These are available in two versions: as a line with a transfer system or as a rotary indexing table.

ASYS has a large number of solutions available for test systems in assembly projects. Applications range from simple signal to high-frequency, high-current, or high-voltage tests. Contacting is realized at the board level or the finished device. 2D and 3D image processing solutions as well as color measurement equipment can be added or separately used.

The possible test solutions are complemented by leak test equipment, taking into account the situation of the open or closed test specimen.Air (overpressure/vacuum) or test gas systems are used depending on the limit leak rate to be determined.

Future trends such as autonomous driving, e-mobility and connected cars place new demands on production. Flexible, intelligent and at the same time highly efficient manu-facturing solutions are in demand. ASYS offers first-class engineering in final assembly proj-ects such as camera assistance systems or communication units, for example. Modular, standardized assembly platforms enable customer-specific solutions with sophisticated processes.

At ASYS, solutions for individual or several production tasks can be implemented in the same cell. This cell, equipped with PCB transport system or transfer conveyors, can be integrated into a production line. Stand-alone concepts with drawers or rotary indexing tables are common alternatives.

Whenever typical workpiece carrier concepts are not suitable, ASYS develops special product solutions for non-standardized dimensions or materials, such as glass plate substrates.

ASYS Laser Applications

For more than 20 years, ASYS has been developing and producing machines for material processing by means of laser technology. In the laboratories at our headquarters in Dornstadt, application experts continuously test the latest laser techno-logies and optimize them for different materials and processes in cooperation with our clients. In addition, ASYS benefits greatly from an internal network of specialists. This brings together expertise from different industries and product areas of the group. From these given facts, ASYS has been able to develop a unique competence in materials processing which helps them to continually develop new solutions.

ASYS develops and produces machines for a variety of laser processes. From laser marking for track and trace during the SMT process through processes for efficiency increase of solar cells to micro machining, ASYS laser systems belong to the fastest and most precise currently available on the market. All laser systems are based on a platform concept. This can be differently configured depending on process and customer requirements.

Solar cell manufacturing increasingly deploys different laser processes to increase cell efficiency. By now, ASYS Solar has installed more than 100 systems.

The INSIGNUM series of laser marking systems with more than 1000 installed systems worldwide is another important business segment and a pillar of the group. ASYS offers a comprehensive product portfolio with differentiated expansion stages. A selection of high-quality laser sources enables not only printed circuit board marking but also the marking of

various materials such as ceramics, metals or plastics according to customer requirements.

In addition ASYS offers machines and technologies for special processes. For some years now, the market has requested very precise and stress-free depaneling methods, as the components and PCBs are becoming increasingly sensitive, smaller and more flexible. Laser depaneling is the method of choice, if flexible, thin or rigid circuit boards must be cut with high precision, without mechanical stress and dust-free. 60% of the customized laser systems are used for electronics applications in the life science sector. Renowned, globally known medical electronics manufacturers have already invested in ASYS laser systems.

Automotive applications like assembly of driver assist and autonomous driving systems as well as e-mobilty components are another fast growing segment.

Rock-Star – Rotary printing process Si solar cells

The project objectives focus on the development of rotary printing processes and innovative system concepts for the cost-effective metallization of highly efficient Si solar cells.

The project is part of the measure “F&E für Photovoltaik” (re-search and development for photovoltaics) by the “Bundesmi-nisterium für Bildung und Forschung” (BMBF). ASYS manages the joint project and works closely with renowned project partners in this field. Such as the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE.

ASYS is involved in leading industry 4.0 projects, which are funded nationwide and EU-wide. The cooperation with strong partners from the university and industrial environ-ment results in promising synergies and solutions. They can accelerate the progress of developments and serve as a basis for opening up new markets.

GeniusTex – Smart textiles The possibilities of flexible materials are currently the subject of much discussion in tech blogs. EKRA and ASYS are dedicated to this very topic in the GeniusTex project. In cooperation with Otto-bock, the Institute of Textile Technology at RWTH Aachen Universi-ty and other partners, a prototype for an intelligent textile orthosis is to be developed. In addition, work is underway on an innovation platform, an open expert system. Here everyone can contribute their ideas and implement them with the help of companies and an expert database. This open, dialogue-ready approach is part of the GeniusTex programme. A SDK for mobile devices is also being developed with which new business models and intelligent IoT services can be implemented.

DEVEKOS – Revolution in Engineering

How can the efficiency of the engineering process be optimized? An intelligent modular principle should solve the challenge. The aim is for developers and plant manufacturers to be able to concentrate fully on their processes and pay less attention to the hardware components. At DEVEKOS, a novel machine architecture is to be developed that makes it possible to gen-erate independent modules from components. In addition, the capabilities of the modules are defined so that they can be used independently of manufacturers. In the end, a machine is only configured from the modules, which not only speeds up the en-gineering process, but also makes the machine highly adaptable. In order to optimize the engineering process, software is also de-signed in which plants can be simulated in advance. Using digital twins, machines and systems can be virtually put into operation and tested.

KOSMoS – new business models via blockchain

Networking and data exchange are buzzwords that are repeatedly cited in the context of Industry 4.0. When talking about cloud technologies, the topic of data security is also on the agenda. Blockchain technologies make it possible to transmit large amounts of data securely. Data can also be exchanged across company boundaries. At KOSMoS, the focus is on developing new business models and contract systems that become possi-ble thanks to blockchain technologies. The basis is a platform that can be used across companies and whose data can be used, for example, for smart contracting and smart services systems.

OpenMOS – Plug and Produce

The EU-funded OpenMOS project was successfully completed in February 2019. The goal of the project was to realize a 100 per-cent “plug and produce”capable assembly line. Based on tech-nologies such as those from the DEVEKOS project, machines and modules were designed that can be exchanged during operation. Each process module and each product carrier is equipped with an RFID tag, which enables the product carrier to find its way through the line regardless of the arrangement of the processes. The finished production line can ultimately optimize itself by tak-ing material flow, energy consumption or production quality as its basis.

With the AIRON metallization line you can not only print solar cells breathtakingly fast. You decide on a solution that is suitable for Made in Germany and Industry 4.0 in the best sense of the word.

The AIRON printer applies metallization paste so quickly that the eye can no longer follow. The line has a throughput of 7,200 cells per hour. It is also the market leader in terms of repeatability of alignment: 12.5 µm with a print quality of 6 sigma. The complete metallization line is optimized in terms of ergonomics and usability and grows with your requirements, such as new cell technologies or line extensions. All future technologies that we develop in the ASYS Group are optionally available in a package with the AIRON. Whether it is the intuitive SIMPLEX operating concept, the smart assistance system PULSE for line monitoring via Smartwatches, or an autonomous material supply using transport robots.

Revolutionary printing technology

We have rethought the AIRON printer from scratch. The result is the so-called AirSpin process. The very low weight of the moving mass makes the waver float soft and uniquely fast.You can also expect the following innovations:

› Faster printing, even better quality: The two squeegees work independently for an optimized stroke. They thus produce a perfect paste roll.

› Less operating effort for setup: The “Autohead” print head

automatically measures the down stop and thus ensures an operator-independent and reproducible print result.

› Protection against microcracks and breakage: The print nest

is full-surface and has a soft coating which protects sensitive wafer surfaces.

Industry 4.0 meets clever machine design

At AIRON, we have attached great importance to optimum accessibility to all systems. We also use industry 4.0 technology to support the operator. › Refill paste and change sieve in ergonomic position and in

close proximity. Free access to all controls. › The intuitive SIMPLEX HMI, makes machine operation faster, safer and reduces training effort.

› The operator is informed at every point about the status of the entire line and can control his cluster systems via a central touch screen HMI. Handling systems can also be operated mobile via tablet.

› Loaders and unloaders are AIV (AGV) ready, i.e. they can be

connected to autonomous transport robots.
