Discover Fréjus

Hi, do you recognize me ?I’m Marcel from Fréjus.I’m on the beach today but the water is too cold !Come with me for a city tour…

First I would like to show you that Fréjus is located in south of France between Cannes and Saint Tropez along the Mediterranean seaside.

The history of Fréjus is very similar to that of Provence. It has been destroyed many times in spite of the presence of the Roman Legion. In 49 B.C., Julius Cesar decided to have the Adrian Way built to link Italy through to Spain. In those days the Phoceans of Marseille had already set up a colony on the site, but it was the Roman emperor who gave the port its prosperity and the city its name of 'Forum Julii' meaning “market of Julius”. It went on to become one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean.

There are a lot of Roman ruins in Fréjus : the amphitheatre,…

The old city looks like a small village with many multicoloured houses.

Today, there is a new marina in Fréjus…

… built in 1994 : « Port Fréjus »

And the local sandy beaches are very close too !
