We’re not a state-of-the-art agency with a bulging “in-house” team of food scientists, sensory experts, nutritionists. But possibly, neither is

that what many the clients we serve are looking for or needing.

In the end, what we hope to build is an collective (a co-op, if you will) of individuals, small businesses, suppliers, operators, chefs, scientists,

marketers, regional restaurants, buyers, & brands, entrepreneurs, bootstrappers & adventurists with collective wealth of industry knowledge

and two fists full of passion.

Survived being stranded in Northern Africa by building a

motorcycle out of parts of a broken down Citroen 2CV in

1993

.. that somehow I convinced you to join me on a epic motorcycle adventure

across Eurasia. However, due to a double dose of unexpected happenstance (which occurs in the

real world), we find both our bikes damaged and inoperable, and ourselves stranded with 2 days

worth of food on a unknown dirt road in Mongolia just north of the Gobi desert.

Perhaps we try to repair and bootstrap one of our rigs so that one of us can ride to get help.

Or maybe we siphon some petrol out of the tank to create a smoke signal for help.

With survival on the line, one’s mental state is different as to what options are available. It was

easy to plan, ideate and prepare strategies in conference rooms for how to deal with

hypothetical scenarios and simulations. But in the real world, where the unexpected is almost

certain, the stakes can be high.

Alright, what the heck is Bootstrap Food Ventures and what do motorcycles and cross-

continental tours have to do with anything?

One word. Adventure. Our industry is one founded on eccentric

& spirited brands and foods who earned their

cult followings by taking crazy chances in appealing to a small

burgeoning group of consumers who proudly proclaim to be the

first to “discover” our food and share their secret among their

friends.

But there’s a growing dependence on “big companies” to show

smaller brands how (in their opinion) to get to the next level.

We aim to work with food adventurers across retail & foodservice, who are still in “survival” mode looking to get to the next leg or challenge

of the journey. Likely your business is a few years out from being able to lease that new wire-cut line or VFFS line in your production facility or

to be able outfit each of your chain QSR stores with the latest and greatest turbo convection oven.

That’s where our mission comes in. We believe there is a less

charted path to sustaining success. Many of our tenets are

seemingly contrary to “classical” marketing approaches. One

that empowers emerging brands in being able to stay

independent, authentic and adventurous.
