Jesus’ Prayer for Us

“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through

their word; …. I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known,

so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

John 17:20, 26

Want to experience God’s Love in a deeper way?

Restoring the Foundations (RTF) ministry offers a pathway for restoring our lives to what God intended so that no matter what our life

circumstances we may experience more of His love, grace, and blessings - just as Jesus prayed. The Lord desires that we know our

true identities – that we are His beloved sons & daughters. We have two RTF ministry options available for those in our T!LC family;

Issue Focus Ministry (one 3-hour session) and Thorough Format Ministry (five 3-hour sessions). Please contact Lisa Zaloudek for more

information.

Cleansing Stream Seminar & Retreat

Experience the Power of God’s Love

Next Seminar will begin in August 2017

Registration Information Available Online in July

Cleansing Stream is one of the core components of our discipleship pathways at Thanksgiving!. It equips believers in Jesus Christ to

strengthen their relationship with God and experience the power of living in the Kingdom. The 12-week seminar and retreat are

designed to help people experience God’s healing, freedom, and transformation.

Barnabas Prayer Ministry

At T!LC, we believe in the power and importance of prayer. If you need physical, emotional or

spiritual healing, we invite you to consider scheduling a time of prayer with a Barnabas Prayer

Ministry Team. A small number (2-3) of trained, compassionate Barnabas Ministers will pray with

you during a scheduled prayer session to seek breakthrough in the area or concern.

Changing the Story All Summer Long

Our hope is that Summer 2017 is a season filled with lots of stories of being

changed by our amazing God. This year we are inviting you as

individuals, Life Groups or families to join us in reaching out and serving

our community. We are asking you to approach this from two perspectives. The first is what God is inspiring you to do individually.

The second is what God has inspired us to do as a congregation.

Your Inspiration

1. Pray for God to show you ways to love your neighbors and serve our community.

2. Gather friends and family together and plan to reach out to the community.

3. Share what you are doing and when you are doing it with the church so we can come along-side you in your endeavors.

Contact Kelly Marz at [email protected] to include your outreach on the summer calendar.

An example of this is an event planned by a Life Group called “Movie Night Under the Stars”. They are planning three different

evenings throughout the summer. They are inviting unchurched families from the local community to join them June 30, from

8:00pm-10:00pm, in the Thanksgiving green space for popcorn, sno-cones, cotton candy and family movie fun!

Thanksgiving-Inspired

The church has begun planning three specific outreach opportunities for June and July. Our hope is that you will attend and

invite your friends to join as well. These events include participation in:

1. We are partnering with Lutheran Family Services to assist refugee families assimilate into our culture. This fits perfectly wit our

calling to Change the Story as this program is designed to be relational, not task-oriented. If you or a group of you choose to

do this, your role will simply be to get to know them and ensure they have a friendly face in America. So, the requirements are

pretty simple:

A) One 2-hour training to learn about culture and expectations which will be held at Thanksgiving.

B) Your group (whether it is a Life Group or a group of people from Thanksgiving that we put together) will have a

person or two to meet with the family once per week. Doing this as a group means that your time requirement

will be about 2 hours, 1-2 time per month.

2. VBS 2017 (Gadgets and Gizmos). It will be held from June 26-30 and every year requires a great number of helping hands to

make it a huge success! To get involved, please contact Molly Miller at [email protected].

3. A ‘Meet Our Neighbors’ Party is currently scheduled for August 27. There will be many ways to participate, please contact

Pastor David at [email protected].

We look forward to connecting with you and with the community all summer long!

Pastor David

Life Group Kick-Off Sunday, September 10

Join us on Sunday, September 10 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm for our

Life Group kick-off. This is for everyone currently in a Life Group,

those looking to join a Life Group and anyone curious as to

what a Life Group is all about. Dinner and “entertainment” (at

least some call it entertainment) will be provided.

Ready to Join a Life Group?

Life Group sign-up will begin the week of August 13. You can sign up at tlconnect.church or fill out paperwork in the bulletin

the weekends of August 13 and 20. There are groups for all ages and stages of life and even groups that meet bi-weekly to

accommodate busy schedules. If you would like more information, please contact Janine Wegner at 402-292-2695 or

[email protected]

Here we go again…Father’s Day and another 4th of July just around the corner.

On the cart are items for all ages to read or view throughout the summer months. Be sure to check out the library for additional

books and DVD items. The books are wonderful to take outside, kick back and enjoy the great outdoors. So many book

opportunities and two months to expand the mind.

For any of you who still have a VHS player, in July there will be tapes on the Apostles, the Holy Land and many more for your

viewing.

Take a look at the ones listed below. These are just the tip of the iceberg for what can be found in your library.

GOD IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK by John Ortberg: “This can be the greatest moment of your life because

this moment is the place where you can meet God.”

ONLY ANGELS CAN WIN IT…THE REST OF US HAVE TO PRACTICE by Liz Curtis Higgs: ”Liz realistically addresses

everything from fiscal responsibilities to maintaining a happy, comfortable home without burning out…and

shows women we’re doing better than we thought.”

MAKING TODAY COUNT FOR ETERNITY by Kent Crockett: “Will the life lessons you’re learning and sharing

with others all be lost or will they lead to a rich, rewarding reality to come?”

HIDDEN HISTORY by Melody Carlson: “When Alice stumbles upon Daniel Howard’s boyhood journal from

the early 1900s, the Howard sisters uncover the hidden history of their beloved father.”

LYDIA’S CHARM by Wanda Brunsteter: An Amish Widow starts over in Charm, Ohio.”

THE ANOINTING OF HIS SPIRIT by Smith Wigglesworth: “This book captures the message of faith.”

LEADING LITTLE ONES TO GOD BY Marian M. Schoolland: the greatest concern of every Christian parent

and teacher is to lead the little ones under his care to God. Children need instructions to--early and

continuous and careful instruction. They need to be taught who God is and what their relationship is to

HIm.”

So many more books, DVD’s and VHS tapes too numerous to list that will help you on your journey

through life in coming closer to Him by reading and watching his word given from fellow Christians.

God’s peace...

T!LC packs 60,544 KAH meals with the help of 300+ packers/volunteers - LOVECAN

A special thank you to the T!LC-KAH Planning Team. This yearly event only happens because you remain engaged in following

the promptings of the Holy Spirit and becoming the hands and feet of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “Many hands make light

work” for fundraising, planning meetings, newsletters, sign-up, calling, heavy-lifters, set-up/teardown and the many other little

things needed to pack KAH meals @ T!LC.

This year’s Latin meals are being transported by Orphan Grain Train of NE to the SW border areas around El

Paso, TX and nearby Indian reservations. You are helping to “Change the Story” for those who are hungry,

malnourished and starving. THANK YOU!, THANK YOU!, THANK YOU!

T!LC Congregation Council Report Carol Umberger - Council President

[email protected]

Last month we looked at Josh

McDowell’s book “The Last Christian

Generation” which was published in

2006. Fast forward to 2014 when “The

Rise of the Nones” by James Emery

White was published, confirming

McDowell’s prediction. In the first

chapter White lays out the statistical

foundation for the stunning

confirmation that the future religious

landscape of America will be

increasingly dominated by the “nones”.

The nones are the fastest-growing and now third-largest

religious constituency in the United States—constituting one of

every five Americans. Here’s a snapshot of who a none is.

(Taken from the book, The Rise of the Nones, pp 21-22.

Research from the Pew Forum, “Nones on the Rise,” October 9,

2012)

1. Male. Though fewer than half of Americans are male, 56% of

nones are male.

2. Young. The older the American, the more likely he or she is

to be affiliated with a religion. One-third of Americans under

thirty say they have no religious affiliation, compared to 9% of

those sixty-five and older.

3. White. Of all nones, 71% are white, 11% are Hispanic, 9% are

black, and 4% are Asian. If you narrow the pool to just

agnostics and atheists, the group is even whiter: 82%.

4. Not necessarily an atheist. The largest group of nones (68%)

say they believe in God or a universal spirit. Only 27% of nones

say there is no God.

5. Not very religious. This may sound obvious, but it makes the

distinction between a person who has no religious affiliation,

and one who is not religious. Nearly three-quarters of nones

(72%) seldom or never attend religious services.

6. A Democrat. Nones are among the most reliably

Democratic of voters. More than six in ten of those who are

registered voters are Democrats or lean toward the

Democratic Party.

7. In favor of abortion and same-gender marriage being legal.

8. Liberal or moderate—and not just on the issues above. More

than three-quarters of nones describe themselves as generally

liberal or moderate, compared to the one in five who call

themselves conservative.

9. Not necessarily hostile toward religious institutions. He or she

just doesn’t want to belong to one.

10. Most likely a westerner. In the U.S., nones are most

concentrated in the West and least concentrated in the

South. While 23 percent of Americans live in the West, 30% of

nones do.

White goes on to say: ‘What is most important to understand is

that most nones are not atheists. In truth, most still believe in

God, and many pray on a daily basis. They consider them-

selves spiritual, or at least open to spirituality. The real mark of a

none is not the rejection of God but the rejection of any

specific religion.

But it’s more than simply being nothing. Perhaps one of the

more disconcerting marks of typical nones is that they are very

content with holding their “nothing in particular” stance

toward religion. Among those who say they believe in “nothing

in particular,” 88% are not even looking for a specific faith or

religion.

Think of their stance like this:

Spirituality? “Yes.”

God? “Probably.”

A specific religion? “Not for me.”

But at least seeking? “No, not really. Not a priority.”

The detrimental effect for a church or denomination could not

be more complete. It is akin to having a world full of people

being open and even interested in coffee, but purposefully

driving past Starbucks with complete disinterest.’

The sad truth is that we live in what is being described as

“post-Christian” times. The council realizes the importance of

understanding how that truth will effect the future of our

church and how to reach out to our community. To that end,

council will study this book together over the coming months

so that we, as a congregation, will be able to effectively

communicate the gospel in such a culture.

Blessings,

Carol Umberger, T!LC Council President
