There were precious few live shows in support of Tone Poems. including one I was lucky to attend in Carmel, California! This recording from 1997 is a mixture of tunes from Tone Poems along with some bluegrass and jazz classics mixed with dawg originals. The “Gasoline Brothers” were certainly on fire this night. This might be the only duet recording of “Dawg’s Rag”, or Tony’s “Devlin’” and it’s a treat to hear Grisman playing mandola on his “Opus 38”. These giants of acoustic string music are in top form here and the recording is so good it’s just like when I used to stand a few feet away, listening to them rehearse backstage with “Dawg” in one ear and “T” in the other. Now that folks, is what your ears are made for and what I consider perfect stereo! - Arthur Stern, July 2017
